What site do you go to for job hunting?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Currently in the process, and curious about where others go or where you've had success.

Depends on what you are looking for? I'm focused on public interest attorney jobs, so while I google search and search on Monster, my main searches are on psjd.org (public service jobs directory) and Idealist.org.

Re: What site do you go to for job hunting?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Try Monster. Try craigslist but be careful. If you are looking for a specific job type, go to the websites of those companies.

Re: What site do you go to for job hunting?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Depends a lot on what kind of job you're looking for. Try to find a job board in whatever field you're looking at, and also check the employment/careers pages for any companies/institutions/whatever that you're interested in working for. If you keep poking around and following leads you ought to find some good postings.

Indeed. The most success I've had, though, is finding work through an agency and doing temp-to-hire. I moved my ass UP!

If Trump's unfit...

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Whether he's impeached and removed or if the VP etc al take their option of telling Congress he's unfit, if Trump is removed from office, would Pence get to rebuild the cabinet or would he keep Trump's?

Re: If Trump's unfit...

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-01-31 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Once he's president he could do what he wanted. He could choose whether to keep them or not. At least as far as I know.

Re: If Trump's unfit...

They serve at the pleasure of the President. Of course it'd be politically difficult for some of them, and its also not clear he'd want to.

Re: If Trump's unfit...

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
At this point, Pence is the better option. So, let's hope he is impeached.

Is it considered rude if

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I really like a project and would like to help, and have noticed they do not have an instagram account, so I contact them and offer to create and run one for them? It's a small scale project, maybe two people involved, but a solid following. I'm worried it would seem rude or pushy, or perhaps like I'm trying to take over?

Re: Is it considered rude if

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like this is maybe a fanart/comic type project? I don't think anyone would object to the offer, even if they don't want to add to the "team." As long as you're clear about what you're asking and that you don't want to step on any toes, just help share the love, that should be fine.

Drinking (or lack thereof)

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one (over 21) who doesn't drink much for non-religious reasons? I just don't often like the taste of most alcohol. And while sometimes it feels good when I do drink and am a little buzzed, other times it actually makes me feel anxious and jittery.

Re: Drinking (or lack thereof)

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely not. I'm not much of a drinker, either. I don't mind what little alcohol I have had, it's just not my regular beverage of choice. If it isn't your thing, that's totally fine.

I don't like the taste of alcohol either. It kind of sucks because I do want to get drunk sometime and see what it's like, but I have yet to find an alcohol I can stand long enough to get there.

[personal profile] randomdrops 2017-01-31 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Nah dude, there are quite a few people out there who don't drink. Me being one of them. Not due to negative reactions like you sometimes have, but just because I don't want to. I had my summer of debauchery and drunkeness and that seems to have been enough. I'm not against it, I just don't care.

Why are babysitters so expensive?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I keep hearing that no one can afford babysitters anymore. When I was growing up, your parents dumped you with your fourteen year old neighbor and gave her maybe 10 bucks when they got home. Now people make it out like fourteen year old babysitters are charging $40/hr plus commission. Is it that people are using adult babysitters now (since people are more cautious than they used to be)? Is it that fourteen year olds are asking for more?

And I DON'T mean for long-term sitters while you go to work. (Because that I can understand.) I mean people who claim they couldn't get a sitter on one occasion for four hours.

Why do my neighbors have pets in my pet free apartment?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
My apartment made a big deal to me that they don't allow pets, and its on their website. But I noticed quickly that there were several cats with collars that would hang around the place, sometimes on porches, but I was like, okay, maybe they're from a neighboring complex.

Sometimes I could hear dog barking, but I live near the street, so maybe it was just people walking their dogs. But now my upstairs neighbor definitely has a puppy, a noise one that barks and howls. Not to mention, I realized there is a dog park area on the property. People just have pets here. What could possibly be giving? Was it maybe a recent thing added to leases so it doesn't apply to everyone? Are all my neighbors sneaking in pets and getting away with it (despite that puppy being seriously noisy.) What is going on?

Best volunteer opportunities

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
So I recently moved to a new city and I have no social circle. I want to meet people, but I'm terrified to go to a bar or club alone (is that even okay to do, or does it seem desperate?). I enrolled in one evening language class, which I love, but so far none of my classmates have been the social type. At least it helps me develop a skill and gives me something fun to do besides sit in my apartment and watch netflix!

I don't think I can afford another class, but I always enjoyed volunteering. I live in a big city now and I'm pretty sure virtually any opportunity exists. But I don't know how to find volunteering opportunities, let alone fun/social ones. Does anyone volunteer, and what's a good way to meet people through it while also contributing to a good cause?

My first thought was volunteering at a shelter to play with cats or something, but when I've done that before, it was all solo. granted, if it's cats I'm cool with that but still, I probably need human interaction..

I fucked up what do I do

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I failed a course in grad school and I'm freaking out, my hands are shaking, I can barely think. Is this going to be on my transcript foreveR? Am I screwed for ever getting a scholarship? is my GPA ruined?

The worst is that I failed out of stupidity, not even like failing because I failed. I didn't submit something on time and that's it.

I need to study and I can't, I can't think, I can't concentrate, any time I think of anything at all I start crying.

Writing help - appendicitis

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What's a good resource for how someone would feel/behave while developing appendicitis? I can find symptom lists no problem, but thinking things like "Is my character going to want to stay standing, lay down, sit up? Are they going to want to be very still or move because it hurts? Are they more likely to want to curl up or stay stiff?" I know about touch hurting, and the rebound effect.

Character is, like many, a young adult who's the type to play it off as nothing and try to push past a stomach ache until they can't anymore.
