6. OMG WHY WOULD SUCHA CUTE PAIRING SQUICK YOU?!?!

21. Too true. Unless I know the author, to me a 'crackfic' just means its a crappy, unfunny fic.

28. power to the CEmen

43. Well, that's different! I never noticed all the face touching!

44. t..tongue..

49. What's this?

63. D'awww. Meiling really is one the most amazing characters when it comes to character development. I was one of those girls that really disliked her, but the episode where she cries in Tomoyo's lap changed everything that I thought about her.

65. D= junpeiiii ♥

64. Uh... I don't know anything about what snack food is in or out of fashion (?!) but I think that's a really cute and well-drawn picture. If you're trying to make the artist look bad, you fail.

80. I kind of hated the (total lack of an) ending but the first 9/10ths of it were amazing T_T

If anyone bitches at you for this, that's their problem. Have whatever beliefs you want for whatever reasons you want. It doesn't matter if other people think it's stupid and bitch at you constantly for it. Either ignore them or reply and tell them that your reasons for believing what you believe are none of their business or concern.

Stories - whether they be in movies, books, television shows, short stories, whatever - are special. In our minds and imaginations, they become almost real. They can open our eyes to things we didn't see before, and make us rethink our previous views on life. My opinion on abortion is somewhat undecided, but if that's what you believe then that's what you believe, and who the fuck cares if it was influenced by a story? That's why stories are written in the first place.

Re: 07

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
who the fuck cares if it was influenced by a story?

I care when the story in question is a very singular account that is then applied as though it's universal. Juno had a very supportive family, she found an excellent household for her baby right off the bat, she didn't suffer stigma at school (and she continued attending school), and she got a boyfriend out of the whole deal. Very few teens who find themselves pregnant will have a similar experience, because real life doesn't work that way. Yet the OP declared that the movie made them pro-life, meaning that, unless they were using the term incorrectly, they believe abortions should be outlawed and no one should be able to have one. The implication is that the OP believes everyone can have an experience like Juno's if they find themselves saddled with an unwanted pregnancy, which is simply not the case.

I'm not arguing the OP's right to believe whatever they want to believe, but I would hope they don't make political decisions like that based on the notion that an idealized, fictional account is actually a universal reality.

3. YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES.

I'm an elitist and I would usually say that IX was the last FF game dammit and everything else after it doesn't count.... but I really loved X-2. More than All the FF7 crap, more than Kingdom Hearts, and even more than X. ><;;;

53) Um, since when is that "feminazi"? It's common sense.
64) I want pocky.
79) Same as the rest of us.
81) Don't be ashamed of Tokyo Mew Mew! The fanbrats suck, but the series is pretty good and there are a lot of good, sensible people that like it.

Battle between 33 and 46!!

37. I kind of agree. I mean, there's a lot of other things that I don't like about it (like how most of the humor recently has been based on shock-value instead of, y'know, cleverness), but it bugs me to no end, even if it is just a wacky show, and is one of the chief reasons I prefer Simpsons.

39. Awww...why the Eight-hate?

41. I keep meaning to make a secret about it, but I guess it's really not--Sandman (and some of Gaiman's other writing) helped me through a really bad crisis of faith. I know that sounds wacky, given that I'm a practising Christian, and his worlds are populated by ever diety that was ever thought up, but they did. And it's because of things like the way he writes Death. His stories just have this amazing...true-ness about them.

46. I could care less about Juno--I have no intentions of seeing it. But spreading your little opinions out to encompass every freaking fandom... Well, no, I don't think you're a troll. I just think you're a judgemental, close-minded moron. FANDOMS: UR MISSIN THE POINT!

48. It is ridiculous. It's a fairy tale. Have you ever actually gone and read through Grimm's FairyTales? They're all ridiculous. Things that make no sense happening left and right (my personal favourite is "The Mouse, the Bird, and the Sausage." The titular characters are all roommates. Yes, even the Sausage. He runs himself through the soup-pot every day to give their dinner more flavour). It's still a good story.

49. I kind of agree, but then, I read the whole thing in one sitting. I guess I'm used to really really epic webcomics that last for ages, but it did feel kind of underwhelming. Still, I'm very impressed with her gorgeous art and the fact that her story actually had an ending. It just felt like there should've been more.

53. HOLY CRAP! I haven't gotten to see the movie yet, but that makes me FURIOUS! (I'm not as miffed with Susan's treatment in the books, because it's evident in her personality from very early on, and he was making a point.) I mean, not just for all that, but honestly...

Caspian had a crush on Lucy. Not so much in PC, but in VotDT, it's so there. It's a very chaste, sweet crush, but it's there. Of course, in the books, Caspian was probably only a little older than Edmund anyway.
I wish I could retro-edit all that stuff out of the movie now...

64. Oh good lord, is it Be a Judgemental *** Day on FS or something? (Oh wait, that's EVERY day! Hoorah!) Seriously, way to sound like a grade-school prep or something. "That song's, like, a year old. No one listens to it anymore!" "But...but I like the song. I like it for itself, and not because it was popular, even if that's how I heard it the first time." "Too bad, you're a loser."
I don't even watch anime anymore. I haven't been able to make myself care about it for ages. I'll still squee happily over pocky and yan-yan, though, because they're tasty and fun to eat.
Also? They're a fun visual element. Like cigarettes. I hate smoking, but it's nice to give characters something to do with their hands.

69. Without Wilson, House is screwed. In the figurative way, anyway. I hear ya. I mean, I half-ship them as a crack ship, but it's way more important that House have one human being in his life who actually tolerates his crap.

79. Yeah, that too. I don't really hate girls running around calling themselves "otaku" if they're, say, 16 at the oldest. When it happens in college, you want to start smacking people.

Re: 48

(Anonymous) 2008-05-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know what a fairy tale is. :) I understand your point. Though my point in particular was that just because something can certainly be allowed to be ridiculous doesn't mean it's automatically enjoyable. I like ridiculous things, too. This one, however, just didn't do it for me.

9. Same here. I've made some friends with people from friending memes and they're awesome, but it's kind of depressing to see that everyone else added about 12 people and I might get 1 or 2. I think my age is a big turn-off. I should probably just not list it.

27. German uniforms are definitely hot! My TnC military figures shipped today and I'm all aiosdfoiamsfomaiomfsexyuniforms. XD

28. Eh?

44. Ky can fuck off with Sol.. FTFY. XD

64. The term "weeaboo" went out about ages ago, too. In fact, I don't think it was ever "in" in the first place.

65. :(

79. *jealous of figure collection*

82. Why are you expecting to see something funny on 4chan? Everything posted there (save for the images) is so stupid I almost feel embarrassed for the posters.

83

[identity profile] pspgm.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually really enjoyed the first book, the amateurish writing style notwithstanding. By the fourth, I was reading just to be done with it. Character development died in a hole, the somewhat awesome plot got crowded with cliched, uninteresting crap, and the author jumped on the "OMG LOOK A GAY CHARACTER I'M SO EDGY AND CONTROVERSIAL" bandwagon.

So, basically: IAWTS.

Re: 83

[identity profile] top-hatted-girl.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I would've been okay with Felicity being gay if it hadn't been such a contradiction of the whole Ithal affair in the first book. Inconsistency bothers the FUCK out of me. Also, I laughed when Kartik became a... tree.

44: Hell yes. :D He is the best character to play, especially against people who take it srs. Would hit with/without bag.

72: I'm not in KH fandom, but wuh? People think Roxas is wangsty?

:(! Poor Roxas.

[identity profile] tenmorehours.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
01. It's never over! Sure, you reach the ending, but then you can rewatch it again and again and again.

06. ^^;; I'm sorry you feel that way! The thing is, it...is kinda canon for Fakir to have one-sided feelings towards Ahiru (in the guide, anyway), so...if it's bad enough for it to squick you, you should probably try to get over it a little? At the same time I can understand why you'd prefer them as friends, since the show doesn't play up the pairing nearly as strongly as Mytho and Rue.

07. I'm actually pro-life, too, so...I wouldn't bitch at you?

34. ...I know a friend who would probably love you forever for the sole fact that you like manga!Vash.

46. Iiiii think you need to loosen up.

48. I honestly don't think it's supposed to be taken completely seriously? I've always thought it was a little tongue-in-cheek like Princess Bride.

53. Wait, what--WHAT?? They had Susan and Caspian get together in the movie?? That's all sorts of wrong!!

64. Goodness gracious, we have to worry about being "in style" in fanart now, too?

72. People hate Roxas?? Since when??? I thought he was the fandom's darling!

#6 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-05-21 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know it's sort of official. My secret is a lot bitchier than I had meant it to be, in retrospect... It's just really rare to see anyone else in the fandom who doesn't like it. It's just personal preference really. ^^; I'm sure I'm not the first person to ever dislike a canon pairing.

53. That pissed me off a lot. It didn't make me angry at Caspian though, because I rather liked him and they stuck him next to Peter often enough to make him look cool by default, but it made me pissed at the writers. I walked out of the theatre too busy hating Peter to really complain about it though.

God, Peter sucks.

64. Are you fucking serious? It's fucking candy! There is no in-season out-of-season for fucking candy! Bitch about something better! What, it's only okay for them to use it when it's obscure enough not to be sold in Western supermarkets, at which point it becomes weaboo? I mean, my mom loves pocky, I guess she's weaboo and out of fashion!

69. Here here. I think sex would only fuck their relationship up anyway.

77. There are, I've been fortunate enough to befriend a few myself.

80. Since when was Legend of Mana underrated? Everyone I know loves it like it was Chrono Trigger and Xenogears' lovechild.

80

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's Secret of Mana (Originally Seiken Densetsu 2) that's universally loved (and it's very much deserved IMO). Legend tends to be less known, and less loved (and I haven't played it, so I don't know).

6. Ugh me too. It just never meshed for me.

80. I LOVE THAT GAME. I really want to get it. I played it at my aunt's when I was younger, but I think I'd be able to appreciate it more now that I'm older. It was so beautiful!

08. I feel like that watching other anime (those mixing in religious references, mostly--religious studies major ftw). As for Code Geass, I wouldn't say that there is quite as much nationalism there, but if you know anything about Japanese history and their interactions with the West it's really interesting. Nationalism has been a pretty damn huge thing in Japan in the past, after all. Though to be quite honest, what keeps me watching Geass has nothing to do with politics, it's because I find it hilarious.

37. I never understood why everyone on the show hated her, either. I hate family guy for oh so many reasons, but it bothers me that they treat her like shit too.

72. Dude, I completely agree. I mean, if someone just told me that I was nothing, some heartless thing that was derivative of someone else, that would make me feel like shit. I have never touched KH2 fandom, but I've always felt terrible for Roxas. Sometimes angst is righteous.

Re: 08

(Anonymous) 2008-05-21 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, religious studies has got to be a laugh and a half when it comes to anime.

Dude, I so don't want it to be in any shape politically realistic. A couple of people on here have said that it is a "stupid, stupid, gay, gay show" and that is just fine with me. One of the "FUTURE SCENARIOS TO TERRIFY YOU!!" that we get in polisci is "JAPANESE NATIONALISM AND ISOLATIONISM INCREASES, THEY EXPAND THEIR MILITARY TO INCLUDE A NUCLEAR PROGRAM, AND EVERYONE IN ASIA TRIES TO OUT DO THEM". So I'm probably oversensitive with this sort of thing.

69

[identity profile] rampant-chaos8.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also afraid that House is going to end up alone, especially after last night's season finale :(

I don't really like Wilson that much, but I loves me some House, and I don't want him to end up "alone."

46.) I hate shipping, the entire concept. I just think it's a stupid waste of time, and it's turned Fandom into a gossipy Middle School lunch table, overflowing with pr0nographic thoughts, and a/b sitting in a tree KISSING etc.

But I think you're being close minded for looking down on people who do like it. <.<; Just stick to the canon and move on.

I never understand why half of these are secrets. And then I read the "secret because" and still can't understand why. D:

03. I loved Crisis Core and I hated FFX-2, but I agree. Probably because I wasn't impressed with KHII and greatly disliked the rest of FFVII:Compilation.
THIS IS A SECRET, WHY? I WOULD ADMIT IT.

53. ..........D:

56. AGREED. But I still love Kaneda and Tetsuo.

63. I- I was like that too. Well, I didn't do the forum thing, but I eventually rewatched the series and absolutely adored her. ;; I think it helps to just admit that (gen) you were an idiot as a kid, and have since grown up.

70. ...I'm not entirely sure what this secret is even saying. I generally agree on what the article is saying about JRPGs....but I can't say much about Lost Odyssey. I only played a little part of it, but I watched a lot of the story... ;; And I like the battle system a lot. ALSO, WHY IS THIS SECRET?

Well, good thing I LAUGHED then. :)

1. I could never do that. I have to know what happens to the point I will go out in the middle of the night to Wal-mart and buy the next DVD of something if I know they have it in stock. I have a hard time with novel series, because if all the books aren't out, I am absolutely dying for the next one Kushiel series I'm looking at you.

2. When I was a kid I liked anthropomorphic art and things. But then I found out how reviled that sort of thing is and got scared away. As long as they're not hurting anyone, or actually having sex with animals, I don't see what the problem is.

6. B-but isn't the whole point that he writes the story where she becomes human? I don't know it's a satisfying ending in that it leaves you thinking about the story afterwards.

9. Just go and pick some people to friend, and actively comment on the things they have to say - there have to be people you've noticed you have things in common with. It works just like in real life

28. Wat? LOL

36. Wordity word word. I love Naruto and his perseverance. He and Tohru from Furuba have been great inspirations to me. It feels kind of silly sometimes, but really, it gives me the confidence to be kind and consider what other people might have been through and still be positive.

41. It sounds incredibly trite, but I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sandman saved my life. I've got the first two Absolute Sandman volumes and I'll get the next two when they come out.

63. While I like good storytelling and clean art as much as the next comic snob comics enthusiast, Clamp have told some wonderful stories.

If people buy things like your example of bad art, then more of it is going to get made. So there's a demand for it, people like it and enjoy it, what's the problem?

Just buy the stuff you enjoy and generate income for the publisher for that sort of manga, or correct the problem that's developed in your mind by creating a solution - make your own manga. Let's go further with that idea - start your own publishing company that sells "good" comics, or find a way to promote the works you like instead of attacking the people who like "bad" manga. Sorry for the TL;DR

75. I understand that it's easy to get caught up in things like a good story or show, but it's cruel to yourself and everyone around you to throw your education under a bus for the sake of a fictional work. I should know, I did the same thing. In the long run it's not worth it. I hope you can catch up or get some counseling.

83. You're not the only one - actually, I thought the first one was so boring I couldn't get through it.

Re: 75

[identity profile] xreddestinyx.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
...So someone needs counseling because they took a break to watch something they like.

That's... Special. :/

(And I don't get how it's "cruel" to anyone. It's cruel to yourself to only focus on school and never take time off. And for other people... It's none of their business anyway.)
