It has been pouring all day and the winds are going fast. But we aren't getting the worst of it here. Still have power, some places are actually still open.

Work was cancelled (I work at a mall so literally no one was showing up) but yeah basically what philstar said. I am mainly worried about flash flooding do to how long the rain is lasting, but I live on top of a hill at least, and we still have power and internet so far.

We're pretty far from the coast, so we're only having to deal with a foot or two of rain and gusty winds. Nothing like what the coastal people are going through, poor sods.

I managed to clog our plumbing system with overcooked pasta, necessitating calling a plumber. What's the stupidest thing you've done recently?

Did you put pasta down your sink or the toilet? I'm sorry. I have to ask.

And stupidest thing this week... I didn't check to make sure a large metal door was secured so it swung back and smacked me right in the face in front of students I was teaching. I had a headache the rest of the day and the next. Fun times.

Decided to go on a walk when it was triple digits out. I WAS A FOOL! It didn't feel that bad at first. But 20 minutes in I felt like I was going to die.

I killed a fly by slamming it between my Kindle and its cover. On the other hand the Kindle survived and the fly didn't, so it worked out in the end.

I was folding laundry the other day - a load that was mostly bedding - and I realized that while I had a top sheet, I had no bottom sheet. I have 2 sets of sheets and always wash both pieces of each set together while the other set is on the bed. There's no reason I would have no put the bottom sheet in with the top sheet. I checked the dryer and washer - not in there. I checked the linen closet, just in case, but there were no sheets in there, of course. I checked the closet where I keep the laundry basket on the off-chance the sheet got stuck in a corner, but no luck. I was stumped. Where the hell did a big, white, queen-sized fitted sheet go? Losing a sock is one thing, but there's no way a piece of fabric that big could just get lost in my apartment. I was starting to wonder if the people in the other unit stole it out of my dryer (totally not something I can imagine them doing, but what else could have happened?) when it occurred to me to check under the fitted sheet currently on the bed.

Yep, there was the missing sheet. When I was stripping and changing the bed, I forgot to take the fitted sheet off and I just put the clean sheet on the bed on top of it without noticing that I hadn't stripped things down to the mattress pad.

Fandom rant thread

I have a rant, and I figure others might.

Finding anything that confirms and reminds you that actually, no, you're not unconsciously a racist.

I mean, you always believe "I cant be a racist" but how would you know? If you got enough people telling you you are a racist, sometimes you can start to feel like "Shit, maybe they know something about me that I don't. Time to put down the Tiki Torch."

So, I made no secret of being EXTREMELY unhappy when MJ was turned from green eyed redhead to Zendaya. Also wasn't thrilled when Valkyrie was changed from a towering blonde amazon built like something out of Wagners wet dreams to Tessa Thompson.

All the other changes to the characters aside, there's no way to ignore that these were also changes to race. So when I react to the casting like:



The accusations are, and the worry is "do I just not want to see black faces in movies?!"

But it occurred to me that if was I doing racisms on both of those, I would expect the same reaction to have flared up in me over the new domino. It hasn't. I love the new domino. I think she's going to be fan-fucking-tastic.

Positive Fandom Things

We rant a lot, which is healthy, but I want a positive one too.

Today I got three very nice comments, one of which was on an older fic and the other two on one where it's been over a week since I updated. I don't usually get comments outside of the couple I sometimes get when a fic first gets posted.

I will put my hand up and say that I can't sleep in the dark. I can walk home at stupid o'clock in the morning in the dark, but I need to have a lamp or something on when I sleep. Just freaks me out.

Also horses. Horses give me actual nightmares.
