108. It has become boring, I don't know if you ever liked it in the first place, but I used to love it, it cracked me up. However I haven't watched in years because it's turned into this snore-fest, it just isn't what it used to be.

151. That movie is so bad and so good, I love it, it's so much fun, mind candy at its best.

103 As usual, it's a few people who make it hard for the rest, so the few people who say that all the slashers are going to hell and are harming their fandoms (this was something that went around intermittently in HP) give the religious fans a bad name. Personally, I'm tired of some people on my flist equating atheism and intelligence, but I'm not interested in arguing that point anymore.

109 That might be my favorite SPN secret ever.

123 This is like that crying over fictional dead people secret from yesterday. In real life you process events differently than in fiction or celebrity gossip. For your friend, you probably knew that everything wasn't awesome anyway, or that your being upset wouldn't help her, etc. Fictional and celebrity lives are simple. Real life is complicated.

126 For me it's the facial hair, but also that he was quiet rather than manic, that he wasn't spazzing all over the place. He might be like that in "Dan in Real Life" as well; I haven't seen that one yet. But facial hair looks smashing on him!

140 Don't let anyone make you feel like a bad fan. It's one of the dumber things fandom can do, to insist that you must like things in a certain way—either super intellectually, or very superficially, or exactly as the creators might have you, depending on the fandom. The only thing I can think of that really makes someone a bad fan is like, giving actors/writers/etc copies of nc17 fanfiction when they didn't ask for it, or being a creepy stalker. Other than that? Like what you like however you want to like it!

172 You've hit on why I really can't watch American episodic dramas anymore, because the narrative follows all kinds of practical considerations (availability of actors, creators leaving shows, networks messing about in search of ratings, etc) and in a show with a continuing story it's so distracting. I'm being driven back to books, seriously. (I know, horrors!) Well, also manga, but those are books.

Re: 172

(Anonymous) 2008-06-16 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I really believe that the writers were so into the idea of Milo being on their show that they didn't even care about prior characterisation. How is anybody supposed to take a show seriously when almost two seasons of character development can be thrown away that easily?

Frustrating. Stick to your books. *nod nod*

124. Oh, don't be silly. If anything, it'll keep you from being lynched by either side. I mean, I didn't loooove Cameron, but I didn't hate her, and yeah, I kinda miss her, and I really miss Chase, but I love the new guys. House/Wilson is still my OTP, despite the fact that I loved Wilson dating Amber. I don't get bitched at when I express my opinions (except for the people who are insane fans of the old ducklings and think NO ONE ELSE SHOULD EVER BE HOUSE'S FELLOWS, ZOMG, but they don't count.)

108. It's weird, I used to love and constantly watch the Simpsons. Now I just... gravitate away. Maybe the newer episodes or boring or something. :C
115. Yeah, I always think Kingdom Hearts for some reason. 8___8
155. I love Othello~

Relationships are a really important thing to establish at med school. I missed out on the initial bonding when the course started as I had to go home a lot due to family illness, and I've only just started to make real, strong friendships. It's so much easier when you have friends on the course, because it's really hard for anyone outside to understand what you're going through. Med school is like nothing else - incredibly hard work, emotionally intense, and the most rewarding thing I've ever done.

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat to another medic!

Many "not touching this" posts again... (I would, though, if I had more time).

103 - Word. I'm not religious but even I get annoyed at how often people get jumped at in fandom when they mention they're religious.

128 - no comment on the secret, but the cat is cute. :D

136 - KITTEH! ....right, okay. But I still can't get over how they gave him green ears in the anime. Why green? o_o

157 - Oookay. You know, "anime nowadays" =/= Naruto, FMA, Death Note, One Piece, Bleach or any of those. Try Gankutsuou, Kemonozume, Kaiba, Mushishi, Noein, Honey and Clover, and so on. Maybe you should, take off your "I only watch good anime" badge and, y'know, look around.

Re: 103

[identity profile] shadsie.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I remember you standing up for me over on ffrantsrants once. I still thank you for that. Just letting you know. It's just great to see *actual* open-minded people in fandom (instead of just people who pretend they are).

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
102. I'm confused by the wording here. You want the terms to be common knowledge, but you don't want for people to know what they mean when you talk about them?

103. Thank you. Although, a lot of times, it's not even an attack on a specific person, just these cruel, throw-away comments made by people who don't even realize (or care, or respect that) people of different faiths may be in the fandom as well.

24. In retrospect, I actually like season four as well. I just miss Chase wanting House's approval. That, and I really hate Chase/Cameron, because it feels like it was forced just to echo the IRL relationship of the actors.

125. I LOVE YOU! Seriously, ditto for me. Only my friends and family know that Munch is the sole reason I keep watching that show. I used to watch episodes on my lunch break--called it my "Munch Lunch." >.<

129. See...these kind of secrets just piss me off. Not just "I want a girl Doctor" secrets so much as these "Here's my really lame reason for not watching Doctor Who." I don't care if you don't want to watch it, but either have a good reason for it, or just come out and say "I don't like it." None of this wanky "I can't watch it because there's no girl Doctor/because so-and-so was in an episode of it/because someone watched it instead of hanging out with me that one time, having nothing to do with me/etc..."
Also...I hate that painting.

131. Dude, what is that from? I think my best friend back in grade school used to like that show--it sounds so familiar.

141. I love that concept. "You may be a Magikarp now, but if you work hard and we leave you in that magic daycare for awhile, one day you'll be a kick*** Gyrados!"

142. Yo. Six, Nine, and Two war for the top-spot in my favourites. I like Ten. But not as much as those three.

145. Same here. Well, I'm not into anime anymore, but I never watched Eva, partially because of the giant robots (Not a Fan), but largely because of the scary/depressing plotline.

154. I think it did have all those problems, actually. I still enjoy it, but most brilliant movie? Not hardly.

162. I keep noticing in various fandoms, lots of canon relationships that are really unhealthy. And the thing is, if the author didn't intend for them to be that way...most of the fandom won't pick up on either. Drives me nuts.
I mean, I love an unhealthy or flawed relationship that's supposed to be that way, but when the author basically goes "Aren't they cute?" and everyone responds "YAY!" I just want to punch something.

171. Totally acceptable reason to do it!

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
125. MUNCH LUNCH! ZOMG, that is epic. You get 60 points for cool.

Also, 131 is taken from Wonderfalls, which is a fabulous show. It only got to have one season, so it's an easy thing to pick up, if you're interested. I definitely recommend it. :3

116. Oh, I'm writing one of those fics right now, and I'm loving it. I won't post it on ff.net and make people suffer, obvs, but those fics are the closest I'd get to meeting the characters I love (unless a portal to their universe suddenly appears in my bedroom) and so I write them. So be proud, and rename that folder! *does a little jig*

103. Does your God/goddess/spirit force prefer you hiding behind little text messages on Livejournal or, like, speaking up for yourself?

Just curious.

I see a lot of people who say they value their beliefs, but they don't stand up for themselves--not really. If this is of serious spiritual importance to you, why don't you say it aloud?

I have a friend who lives in a Muslim country. To be anything less is illegal for a citizen of his nation. He can't say what he really feels and believes. If you're not in his situation, you should be thankful, and consider the options you actually have.

Re: 103.

[identity profile] scientivity.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, because while I'm sure you didn't mean to come across this way, I don't appreciate an extreme situation like that being used to justify mocking another person or dismissing them because of their beliefs.

The plight of people in circumstances like the one you described is very real; I'm not by any means trivializing that. But, even though I am privileged enough to live in a country that for all intents and purposes accepts me, that does not mean I am going to sit by and allow people to discount me, my opinion, or other people who believe the way I do. It's wrong. That's all there is to it. Whether or not the situation is worse somewhere else (which, again, I recognize and respect that it is) has no place in reference to this particular secret.

This may just be me, but I feel the OP is more concerned that fandom, which often praises itself (generally speaking) as being completely open and accepting of new ideas/ways of thinking/etc., often turns its back on people who admit to believing in some sort of supernatural force, whether or not it actually affects their participation in fandom itself.

Again, I'm sorry if this comes across as overly harsh, and if I need to clarify anything, please ask. This is something I feel very strongly about.

I adore the new fellows. I actually adore the new team much more than the old team as a collective, because 2/3 of the old team annoyed me, but 3/3 of the new team I love.

To me, the perfect 5th season would be some canon House/Wilson with Cameron moving away to California or Siberia and leaving poor Chase, who would then run to Thirteen. Then Foreman would also move and Chase could take his spot on the team;. That would create the awesome, disease fighting team of House, Chase, Hadley, Kutner, and Taub with some Wilson and Cuddy aid on the side.

And free ice cream. That won't happen, but it would be pretty swell.
