102. ....Uh....June? D:

103. Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

108. It is pretty boring these days

Though I'm English, lulz

113. Eva is fucking rad ;-;. The whole traitor thing? lol that is war. :(.
Fabulous character, though.

115. You and the rest of the world

119. Know what? I only really got into Persona 3, because I played a handful of MegaTen games in my youth...and didn't like them DD: YES BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO HARD FOR ME, SHUT UPPPP
I don't get where this idea came from that you have to play ALL the games to be a true fan came from. Then again I'm not interested in the fandom side of things so :D;;

132. GIFS FUCKING SUCK STOP FUCKING POSTING THEM

141. That is SO cute ;-; I love this secret.

142. You aren't

152. STOP POSTING GIFS

155. THAT FACIAL EXPRESSION IS HORRIFIC

157. Try some Satoshi Kon, it's good for what ails ya

162. BElieve me, you are NOT alone. It's the suckiest most fucked up relationship ever, and not even in an interesting way! How do you fuck up an unhealthy relationship so badly?! AT LEAST MAKE IT INTERESTING

168. I loved Josh because he was a complex character. He was a douche, a brat and an asshole, but he was INCREDIBLY styling in how he did it.

[identity profile] purple-kama.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
133. Kodomo no Omocha secret? OH YAY ♥
And I'm there with you. The series as a whole is something powerful.

151. I don't see why not. It's so bad it's good, and even threw some Balrog/Honda at us.

135

(Anonymous) 2008-06-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's not very nice. Good luck I guess.

DAMMIT PEOPLE, animated secrets where I have to sit and watch to read the whole thing are automatic fail.

103. Hi, I'm religious! *waves* I know it can suck to hear somebody mocking your beliefs, no matter what they might be, but I've actually found that hearing stuff like that (not limited to fandom, of course) has made mine both stronger and more defined. Just...you know, try to be the bigger person, don't rise to other people's bait, that sort of thing. Religious fannish people are out there, and probably more plentiful than you might think!

143. Pretty secret is pretty.

156. I'm not a huge fan of the way he's aged, but if he were ten years younger or so? Oh my yes.

103, 157, 167, 170

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
103: How on earth do you manage to make your religion part of fandom? Sometimes various charaters' beliefs have been up for discussion, but otherwise?

157: Well, there is always the radical option of watching the actual anime without joining the fandom?

Also, I just can't stop finding it funny when people think anime made in the nineties is old, heh.

167: Your standards are too high? HAHAHAHAHA!

... Sorry. Well, it's not a bad anime, generally, but... ah. Also, their kind of friendship is rather standard for shounen, you know.

170: You know, everytime I see people say "this male" or "that female" without a defining noun afterwards, I always wonder if they're talking about actual humans. It sort of reduces them to objects.

Also, regarding your actual secret; you are in love with a gay man, and you hate slashers? Or just female slashers? What's the connection? You think we're as annoying as men who only like lesbians because of potential threesomes, but since we generally don't have that fantasy, what's the reason?

103. In before... something. I basically ignore the bull people spout and leave them to their delusions of superiority while I enjoy fandom. I'm not going to get bent out of shape over strangers on the 'net that don't matter to me anyway.
128. No one cares except you.
136. FUCK YEAH. For some odd reason, I always have the insane desire to shove my fist into their hollow holes...
152. Good luck with that?
157. If you can't find good anime after 2000, you aren't looking hard enough. Seriously. Also: Soul Eater will soon become the type of fandom you fear. Tick tock, tick tock...
170. Gross generalizations for the lose!

103. THANK YOU. I hope you continue not getting trolled for this-- the last person who posted a secret saying this got ripped to shreds. This comm really, really pisses me off sometimes.

142. Mine are Nine and Five. Nobody likes Five ;.;

152. What the shit?

162. That's my problem, too. I don't have a problem with cheesy romances automatically; I read them all the time, and can even deal with a certain degree of bad writing. But Twilight, and the fact that the target audience is young enough to take it seriously-- eeeehhh. *shudder* I don't think Harlequin-type romances should be targeted at kids that young, who aren't experienced enough to tell the difference between real relationships and wish-fulfillment.

169. Why don't you just, y'know, tell him?

[identity profile] tenthtimelucky.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Five is my favourite! I like Five!

110- Someone else puts Phoenix Wright in Silent Hill? This pleases me. I do that all the time with a bunch of the characters. The judge and Harry Mason have the same IQ, anyway. It works. XD

108, 124, 125

[identity profile] agilesreader.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
108- Me too!
124- I loved season four! I hated season three!
125- YES! ME TOO!!!!!!! I also love crossovers and he has been on more series than any other character!

[identity profile] relmneiko.livejournal.com 2008-06-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
103. My disdain for religion is not fandom-specific. I don't like it IRL and I don't like it in fandom. (Well, that is to say, I don't like the idea of believing in it... but I find the mythology to be interesting, be it Greek or Buddhist or Christian myth).

121. That movie was amazing. :D

167. I found Yu Yu Hakusho to be a boring and formulaic shounen manga. Come on, it's basically just a series of tournaments. I like it when manga actually comes up with a half-baked EXCUSE for the fights. At any rate, if you like that kind of thing, I suggest Flame of Recca (the manga, NOT the anime). It's better, trust me.

103. I think, unfortunately, that a lot of the anti-religion sentiment in fandom is part of a vicious circle with attitudes in real life- it's getting easier to be a non-believer, but in American politics, for example, it's impossible to get far without being very vocal about your faith. So fandom is like a safe space for people to vent, but once you have a safe space where you know it's not very accepted for people to disagree, you stop thinking about whether what you're saying is a valid complaint or just misdirected anger.

Honestly, I do find it a little awkward to be surrounded by such a religious atmosphere in real life when I don't happen to believe in any of it, so in fandom I do sometimes have a feeling like, "Oh, please don't make me conscious of being different here, too!" Obviously attacking someone's beliefs isn't okay, but I think probably a lot of the people who do it just aren't thinking, and I don't think they actually want to make another fan feel unwelcome. Rose colored glasses? Moi? I'd completely support you if you wanted to speak up from time to time to remind people that their comments aren't going into a vacuum.

130. RAGGEDY ANDY. I STILL HAVE MINE.

145. Personally, I found Giant Naked Rei to be more giggle-worthy than scary, but YMMV. NGE is a real downer of a series, though, so if you don't think you want to watch it, don't force yourself.

165. I THOUGHT OF FANDOM WHEN I SAW THAT STRIP.

103

[identity profile] shadsie.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think also that the majority/minoirty and the Persecution Olympics is played up, something of a myth. I see a lot of the non-religious people on here talk about how they live in the American South or some such place where they're surrounded by obnoxious religious people... I live in the Northeast, where... that isn' quite the case. I've heard that in New York, being a religious Christian is outright weird.

In TV and other media, it's the "cool" thing to make fun of the devout. Just look up Acceptable Targets on TVTropes.org

And let's not forget... in the creative/quirky/nerdy community that is Internet fandom - it really *is* a minority.

That's why whenever someone brings out the argument that "Discrimination against the religious isn't as bad because it's discrimination against a majority" I think they're full of bull and only trying to justify being rude and discriminatory.

I just think socially accepted discrimination in general sucks, in life, and in fandom.

So, I guess I'm agreeing with your statement, but reminding that "majority" and "minority" are relative, so, yeah, you do have to think about what you say. Everyone does.

OMG, see it. The doomsday thing is not the central thing to the plot OR the point, and the anime is so, so, so, so, smart. It's one of the smartest animes I've ever seen. I promise.

125: Yes! I adore Sgt. Munch. I think it's a real shame he's been so under-used recently, but it wouldn't be L&O: SVU without him.

143: IAWTC. Even though she's completely off her rocker sometimes, the way she saw something so dangerous as so beautiful was very deep and poetic. And it fits her character, as well. She's extremely dangerous - a human weapon, but she's also so very beautiful and full of life.

135

(Anonymous) 2008-06-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? I don't think her Axel is all that IC in the first place, and the way she bitches about how nobody does him right is arrogant and obnoxious. It's fine to have a favorite character, a lot of what she writes goes completely askew from what canon has given us about his personality; she has no right to bitch about OOC when she's guilty of it herself.

Her Axel is a mediocre hyper-exaggeration of fanon expectations at best. I'd almost rather she considered something I wrote out of character to her standards.

Re: 135

(Anonymous) 2008-06-15 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
She's an excellent writer- there is no way her characterizations are in any way mediocre. I've yet to see any work come even halfway close to what she accomplishes and this has been my fandom for years.

The character is open to different interpretations, of course, but I'd rather read her work than most published novels.

Yay!

I loved Dean. He liked cake and he loved Rory. He tried all the books she asked him to read and gave her the sweetest first kiss on television EVER. And he never crashed her car or tried to push her into having sex. I don't see the appeal of Jess at all, but even if I did? What they did to Dean was ridiculous, and an example of AWFUL writing.

Your icon is all kinds of love.

112 - Ooooh. She was so awesome. And who couldn't use a Nigel?

124 - Aw. But if more people admit to liking everything, maybe more people would focus on what they are enjoying?

131 - This was the first show I ever watched where I totally empathized with the character's life. I can't throw out any curios to this day.

172 - Ugh, yes. This show was the absolute princess of "whoops, don't need you anymore" storytelling. And I still watched it for seven seasons.
