172. Yes, because creepy obsessive cold men who follow you everywhere you go, make you give up everything else in your life so you can be with them, have to make a concerted effort not to insanguinate you while you sleep, won't even have sex with you despite being over a century your elder, and look and feel incredibly disturbing are totes the way forward. I see why this is a secret, to be honest.

104 As others have said, I'm not sure it matters why you do it all that much, so long as you don't end up being a martyr about it. Sometimes we start down the right road for the wrong reasons, and then doing things for others just becomes a habit of mind.

125 Monkees so FTW.

141 I really feel that fandom is about 95% about selfish people taking the "doers" of fandom for granted, which is unfortunate but true. Try not offering any further doodles to those who have dissed you, or, just think of the doodles as what you are doing for yourself. As people to give you tons and tons of prompts and pick and choose without thinking that you're taking a kind of commission. That might make you feel better about it! I'm all about getting as much of the ability to be satisfied into your own hands and out of other people's hands as possible.

150 I feel you, but if that happens, especially at this point, the fault is entirely his. However, it's so much less likely now that he's older. And I'm rooting for him too!

159 You know, I continue to not understand why a lot of people talking about a thing makes other people hate that thing. If I already like a thing, then I continue to like it, and if the masses talk about things that aren't the things I like about it, I try to talk about the things I like. If I dislike a thing, I just scroll past. If I am indifferent about a thing, I continue to be indifferent. Why others get so negative about people being positive continues to baffle me.

167 Wow, that is hard core. I really hope making that secret was cathartic for you! I will say that there is a lot of worship of brilliant misanthropes in fandom in general (House, Snape, McKay, Grissom) and in real life they are actually an enormous amount of work to be friends with because they demand a lot of understanding and give almost none in return.

169 I wish you could say that to every person who comments on stories I write that aren't NC17 with essentially "this is nice but next time can there be porn?" Sex sells in fandom just as much as it does in the marketplace, and if I just went by what gets me comments and attention I'd write nothing but 1000 word PWP ship fics. Right now I'm writing a multichapter ensemble story and I'm worried that once it gets posted no one will want to stick around through the actual talking and emotion to get to the sex. Sometimes it can be frustrating! So if you want more love and less sex, comment tons on the PG stories you see.

RE: 169

[identity profile] prettygothgirl.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly, thank you! This is everything I wanted to say. LOL The last thing I want to hear as a reply to a story where I just sent my characters on a date is... "I like this, but could you write a sequel with lemon or lime? Not that I'm complaining or anything..." Or something to that effect.

That and romance seems to be really hard to find in fandom in general. I don't think a lot of people know what it actually is, the media doesn't help either. Most 'romance' novels go straight to the sex too.

WOW. You know, I've considered posting this secret so many times, but always pulled out at the last minute because everyone would know it was me. Seriously. I mean, I read Indian literature (and um...am writing a thesis on it), I watch Bollywood movies, I've been to India, and I'm considering learning Hindi...and I am so, so white. If you're not ashamed to come out, you should friend me. I won't tell anyone.

(For what it's worth, Bollyboo is my favorite suggestion so far).

116. Thoroughly agreed. I was SO, SO surprised by TWEWY - my opinion of Nomura (and Squeenix in general) was flipped right around by that game. It is phenomenal.

Even if this is a troll, I agree with the statement. I think the reason they can't get boyfriends doesn't have so much to do with fat, though.

I don't think it's a troll. I've been wanting to make that secret for awhile.

139. It's okay. In this case, I don't think it really matters how it happened. At least you're not.

158. I'm definitely into girls, but I think yuri and other things are mostly very boring. I only have one yuri-related icon that I can think of. I can't explain it, but it's true. A lot of people feel like that. So really, whatever.

174. I want to finish reading the series just for that ship.

I thought that mangaka had forgotten how to even end a series. How long has this crappy manga been going on for, now? I'm so happy to see it ending. One less shitty manga out there. I'm sorry, IY fans, I just really can't stand Inu Yasha. Not after 60 episodes of the anime during which NOTHING REALLY HAPPENED, LOL.

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
104: You're trying to be a good person, and fearing failure is only normal. It's hard to live up to the ideals of characters like that, but only trying gets my respect.

114: No matter how naive or unsuspecting you may have been, the only one who can take any blame is the creep who hurt you. If you feel in any way comforted by healing sex in fic, go for it.

118: We-ll, that style is a bit too sugary-sweet for my tastes. I've always been more of a Kyo fan (which used to be lot easier before they started touring abroad, I can tell you that).

122: I honestly think it's one of the best new anime. It's not the first in the meta genre, but I think it's the first one featuring girls as the nerds...

Anyway, what does it matter should you feel attraction towards women as well? As long as you're in love with your boyfriend, he's got nothing to worry about, yes? Or does he constantly worry about you suddenly finding other boys more attractive than him too?

123: I generally don't read fanfic to get excited, you know. At least not the way you mean. Of course I read porn in fanfic form sometimes, but I don't seek out fanfic in particular just to read porn.

Even though I read pairing fic almost exclusively, it's the long, plotty journey through friendship and falling in love that I want, first and foremost. It's because of two particular characters that I read, not to put myself in the story (that's what my Mary Sue fantasies before falling asleep is for!).

128: Is it the Bollywood? I keep hearing so much about it, I need to watch some (more than the single film I've seen so far) one of these days. Any recs?

130: Yeah, I think I did even as a kid. XD

148: I just hope they stay friends at least. Kurapika has issues, and I think she may be able to help, yes.

158: Maybe there are just more interesting male characters and more interesting dynamics between male characters in any type of media? The shows with lots of women (Marimite, Lucky Star, Azumanga) are pretty much femslash/yuri only, as far as I can tell.

Anyway, lots of people like stuff in fiction that's outside their RL preferences.

169: It's because we think sex can be a beautiful expression of love, maybe?

158

(Anonymous) 2008-06-17 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
then get the fuck out of anime and watch shows with REAL PEOPLE

solution!

also: yaoi fags always think there are more interesting dynamics between male characters because they want them to have buttsex

101. I was like "DUDDDDDDDDDDE, it's ending. Wow... I'm shocked..." Plus it was Takahashi's worst IMO. If you want satisfying romance or comedy, read Maison Ikkoku (for the romance) and/or Ranma 1/2 (for the lulz with a dash of romance).

106. Awesome.

108. Oh god, why did I LOL'd hard?

118. He's.... adorable....

122. He might not take it that seriously. My ex was plesantly surprised to find out that I liked yuri (he already knew about the BL), but he was pretty laid-back. If all fails, tell him liking yuri =/= lesbian. Sexuality doesn't work that way.

123. Really, when I was with my ex (we never went all the way, but we were sliding into third if you know what I mean) and I was pretty satisfied with our fooling around but it seemed that instead of fanfics turning me off, it made it more intense, especially when I knew the characters were feeling most of the time.

134. I always felt that Yoite's angst was well deserved because of his impending death. It's not my OTP (Raikou/Gau are) but I ship those two platonic and romantically.

152. Why I was sad when I realized that this ship is the OTP of the fandom? Write it already, even if I'll never read it because I'm not a 8059 shipper, I'm sure fans of that pairing would appreciate it. The fandom always welcome new writers. Heck, you can ask for improvement, you don't need to write like Proust or anything like that to write fic for the fandom.

158. HURR DURR. Sexuality is a LOT more complicated than you think.

164. NO.

169. No, no, no. Except for kink memes, a majority of fanfics I've encounter is sexual acts-free. And yes, people do that shit IRL.

170. Well, fuck. That had to blow if you stop watching that series at 13. Did it get blase or bad? Hell, if I went through all of shit over a series, I'll make sure to finish the damn thing out of pride.

171. EVA 01, is that you?

174. I'll read it.

Too Big!1. It would be totally awesome if Shamal was Gokudera's real father. Shamal won't exactly win a Dad of the Year award anytime soon, but he was a stable bedrock for Gokudera and would be a much better father than Gokudera's sorry-piece-of-shit-of-a-dad.

158

(Anonymous) 2008-06-17 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
YES SEXUALITY IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COMPLICATED

holy fuck I've been happily married to a man for three years now but oh gosh sometimes I think I kind of want to lick a woman's cunt

oh wait NO I DON'T

there ARE reasons to like slash other than being attracted to the characters involved.

and some people just identify with men more than women.

or some people just don't have sexuality filters on their subtext detectors.

it does not always have to do with attractiveness or even sexuality at all, but with relationships.

lol subtext?

yaoi fags will make any two male characters who even exist on the same planet fuck each other, even if they have never met.

in fact, i am pretty sure that totally disregarding all canon and subtext in favor of creating your own is a REQUIREMENT to be a yaoi fag.

101. Wow, Inuyasha's finally ending? It's been so long since I actually read it. Ahhh, the memories.

135. That entire world was heartbreaking.

127: Are you me? Though I realise Benny probably isn't interested in girls.

132: Are you also me? I didn't think coin collecting could be thought of as cool until I saw Greg doing it.

168: It will, it will. I don't really care about Solid Snake's story, I want to know more about these two guys, possibly with sparkle vision.
