117. Oh snap! I heard about that and yeah, I agree. I never got to see the second season and I've dragged my feet on catching up since I heard it ends rather abruptly. If I ever go back to watch the rest of the series I won't deny that this kiss part of the reason why.

Who needs morals when you have fandom, anyways? ;) Kidding, kidding. I ship a ton of incestuous pairings, what's one more?

I believe that an upcoming Pixar movie DOES have a female protagonist. I think it was called "The Bear and the Bow?" That's what I read on Wiki anyway.

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
123- I think you just nailed why I feel awkward looking at it. It kinda sucks out the cute and sweet when you know secretly they're ripping that OTHER lolita girl to shreds for wearing te wrong brand.

150- I don't know why you stop at Asians. The biggest weaboo I know is Asian, just not Japanese. Japan=/=Asia (And honestly I would wanna avoid a Japanese girl that did, but for different reasons. The kind that go around crying "CUTE!" and calling people "Te-chan" just aren't my cuppa tea)

162- What I never got is, why, if he ruined it so much, every thing he touches is pretty much gold. Sour grapes that their stuff got big and now it's full of, god forbid, other fans? IDK I'm not enough of a gamer to really investigate (or care) but it always seemed silly.

169- ♥ I've stopped defending Naruto, because hey...they're missing out, not me.

Everything Nomura directs does well in terms of sales, yes.

If only because it's shallow, formulaic, and full of fanservice.

I don't think anyone's bitter because their stuff got big. I think a lot of people are bitter because their stuff got bad.

(I can't say that I care one way or the other about his designs, though.)

I CONCUR. In all honestly, I think we could use more than belts and leather, but Nomura's designs aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Sure, his costumes are incredibly impractical, but who needs practical in a fantasy world? :( I mean C'MON PEOPLE. FANTASY. FINAL FANTASY. Jesus H. Christ.

Though I don't mind Amano and Yoshida's character designs either.

But anyway, I kind of like Nomura's characters. His best designs were for Final Fantasy X though. In my opinion, at least. :)

Yes, totally sick of the protagonists always being male. This is very much true of a lot of children's books, as well -- main character is usually male (unless, of course, it's aimed at a specifically girl audience).

And for god's sake, all you people who are writing in and saying, "I'm a girl, and I don't like girl protagonists, go figure" or "It's not sexism, it's just the way things are," please, please do some basic reading on gender issues. Women are raised in the same culture that continually presents male characters as the human norm, and female characters as occupying some separate female-specific role. Of course a lot of us, especially those of us who are fandom geeks, are going to associate with male protagonists. That doesn't mean that it's not a problem, or that female characters should always be relegated to the sideline, to stereotypical female roles, or to being uninteresting.

Sigh. I just wish more people would demand good roles for women.

138 LOL, that picture is hilarious! And I just bought the Bandai dvd. I've never watched the show before besides the last two episodes (well, and I was on /m/ during the show's run in Japan, so I know what happens in every episode without having seen it). It's ok but I don't see the big deal. Not even close to being my favorite GAINAX work (not even in the top 5).
151 HOLY SHIT YOU WIN TEN INTERNETS!!!!
168 When I watched this movie all I could think of was psychological ramifications of birth order, and how much each brother corresponded to one of my sisters and I (I'm totally like Owen Wilson in this film, I mean, as he relates to his family anyway).

OPINIONS LAWL

It's honestly much better to Gunbuster and Diebuster even if it is indeed inferior to End of Evangelion and FLCL. The writing is top-notch in terms of delivery, dialog construction and structure and the overall visual design is excellent.

102. Games don't have to be about gameplay.

112. People have been getting morals from fictional stories since forever. That was the whole point of things like Aesop's Fables. Then there's biblical stories, which people still take messages from. There's no shame in taking something true away from something fictional, especially because chances are you only took something away because whatever you were engaging with resonated with something true in you.

129. I agree with you. Female characters in Pixar movies don't do very much, to boot, exempting Dory.

145. Which fandom? We can't help if we don't know the fandom.

162. I hate Nomura because he's the creative head of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII (or at least he was last time I checked). Up until then, I quite liked what he came up with.

Really? The only Pixar film I can recall that had that problem was the first Toy Story movie, and that was remedied by its sequel with Jessie.
