101. That was a lovely movie.

129. I like Pixar too but IAWTP. Pixar needs to use moar female characters. And a title female character would be awesome.

151. Link plz

129: I don't know but this seems kinda sexist. Like all the characters are boys? Where did I miss that memo?

102. Actually, I agree in a lot of ways. Though I wound up STILL liking the ending. This is one of the first complaints about the game I agree with D:

114. OH SNAP

128. Too much NS not enough S
is what floated through my mind when I saw it
but actually a rather striking secret D:

129. Say what you will, there are a tonne of fan favourites that are female. Dot, Dory, Boo, etc. When I was growing up watching Pixar films, I didn't notice the protagonists were male. I was too busy watching all the kickass females ♥

150. You and everyone else in the fuckbloody world, sunshine

153. THANKS. NOW I CAN'T UNSEE IT. But there are so many resemblances!! D: D: D:
Shit, I loved Ichi too. Fuccccckkkk. JUST DON'T RUIN ANYTHING ABOUT HAPPY FAMILY PLANNING OR THAT CREEPY EPISODE WITH THE ANIMATING STUDIO, THOSE ARE MY FAVOURITES

160. I WANT TO READ THIS NOW

162. I LOVE Nomura as a designer so long as he's not putting fucking belts and zippers on everything. It's a viable complaint. He sucks ass when he's trying to make everything DARKER AND EDGIER (except in TWEWY, where it worked). I love his designs for earlier Final Fantasies. It's just he's BECOMING A SELF PARODY

163. Didn't there used to be chocolates of those guys? I didn't know there was a show.

[identity profile] obnoxdwfanbrat.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Fan favorites aren't the same as leads though. These awesome girls are still supporting characters to a male character.

LOVE THIS MOVIE!

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
116. You know that TV Tropes is a wiki, right? If so, you've got a solid enough argument to edit that out. Just take it out and put a note in the discussion page explaining why you did it.

123. I don't think you can judge an entire group by how they dress. Are some of them like that? Sure! But I've met a lot of really , really wonderful people that wear lolita. (For the record, I don't--I'm currently wearing a baggy t-shirt and ripped jeans. XD;)

129. Eh, well, most animators (and writers and whatever) these days are still male, so it's understanable. And truthfully, I don't think it matters what gender a character is as long as it's an interesting story. It's not like Pixar doesn't have strong females in their works. If anything, some of the time the male characters are less capable than the female ones. (See: Ratatouille. Also WALL-E from what I've heard, although I still need to see that one.)

147. LOL, one of these days I'm going to make a bunch of secrets for my more obscure fandom just to generate excitement about them. (...Oh, wait, I've already done that once or twice.)

148. My Dad is a huge fan of both Jimmy Stewart and Frank Capra, so I grew up watching this movie EVERY. CHRISTMAS. I think I would have a hard time dating someone that couldn't appreciate it, too--I credit this film for my love of angst.

153. ..LOL. AWESOME! THIS IS MY CANON NOW!

154. LOL, I would too. I like Fakir and Autor, but Mytho--or, well, Prince Siegfried--is probably the closest thing to my "ideal guy" I've seen in that show. (But the best part of this is the cod)

(Anonymous) 2008-07-08 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, well, most animators (and writers and whatever) these days are still male, so it's understandable.

Herein lies the problem itself. Why SHOULD it be understandable that males shaft female leads or characters? Why does modern society still push and reflect values like 'females are not made to be heroes or main characters?'

I don't think institutionalized sexism should be cast off as just 'understandable' when it's a problem that needs a'fixin', and I believe that's what 129's OP was suggesting.

104. You're right, but it's a harmless bit of fanon that seems consistent with the idea that he's more fucked up from the war than first appearances would let on. You can make his character work with or without it.

109. Wow. I watched two episodes and was absolutely hooked. Who knew that different people enjoy different things?

124. I don't think that term means what you think it does, OP. The fact that he is mildly insane, has dependency issues like WOAH, is easily manipulated, and is reviled by the person he holds dear, all pretty much mean that he's about as far from a Stu as you can get.

137. DO IT! You and I think the same way, and that fic would make me very happy. (Not 'happy' happy, but ZOMG-this-is-amazingly-fucked-up happy.) I have actually developed a great deal of my perception of Tsuna's character based on this very fact, and I think it gives his low self-esteem, and his need for affirmation, an even greater level of severity. Essentially, I believe that Tsuna is aware on some level that his mother doesn't really see him, but rather 'Iemitsu's son'. All of her affection for him is derived from the resemblance he bears to his father, not because of his individuality. She doesn't seem to have much interest in his life beyond the most basic of concerns (his grades, keeping him fed etc.), and any deeper issues simply don't register on her radar (it's used for comedic effect, of course, but it's quite disturbing when I take the time to think about it). I believe that his attraction to Kyoko comes from a desire to have his mother love him as the individual that he is; he can't get that validation from his mother, so he's seeking it from Kyoko instead--a person who resembles his mother in both appearance and personality.

Yeah, I'm probably over analyzing; but I think it puts a lot of things in perspective. :)

Pete Wentz plagiarized 90's hardcore vocalist/poet Wes Eisold multiple times, even entire lyrics. FOB ended up settling out of court. That is why FOB now has to credit him as a "co-writer" in the liner notes of "From Under the Cork Tree" and "Infinity on High".

That is why I will never respect Pete Wentz.

104. WORD.
109. That’s my favorite anime there…You can’t tell just from two episodes, for serious. It gets MUCH MUCH better towards the end of the series. And why do you hate it so much? Not your genre? Too old-school Shounen Jump for you? Also, Itsuki (the green-haired one you put the “female” symbol on)=dude. (A really AWESOME dude, BTW.) (Am I falling for a troll here?)
116. Wow, that edit was Made of Stupid.

That's Inuyasha. A very angry one...

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
104) Part of that comes from the fact that the very few times the subject comes up, Roy always comes off as a guy who likes women, rather than a guy looking for a woman. He gets annoyed during the whole "Bard" episode because it will make him late for a date. A date we then never hear about. He fantasizes about the army consisting of nothing but short skirted women. And he does happen to date the girl that Havoc was angling to get. He also makes a come on at a random nurse. He talks in a drooling fashion about Psiren. He shruggs off Hughes suggestions at marriage. Yes it's not much -- but the thing is, the show isn't about Roy's private life. Roy doesn't even show up for many episodes, and those episodes he is in, he is almost invariably wrapped up in work. The few data points we have for what goes on when he's not doing his job is that he enjoys women to an extent none of the other characters do.

118) I like my canon gen and my fics porny. I find most canon relationships rather unremarkable and inoffensive (not qualities I particularly want), plus canon relationships tend to restrict how and who the fandoms ships are.

125) Except in that those two are absolutely different in almost every way possible. I mean, really, what do they have in common besides a vague static physical resemblance? Absolutely nothing.

128) Can't read your secret at all (illegible font), so I'll just say Tosh sure had a beautiful death.
