They need something to make them feel special.

I think you can be non-binary in gender and still acknowledge being AFAB? I don't see why not and anyway it's not my job to police

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
^This, ffs. Stop trying to cram people into boxes you assign them.

I wouldn’t call myself both, but I’m definitely nonbinary “leaning” female if that makes sense. Could be something like that.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
They're almost all just female, tacking on the ~enby~ label and adding "they/them" to their "she/her" pronoun list is a thing they do now to pretend they're not one of the boring "cishets".

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)

I'd bet money most of them will drop the nonbinary stuff when they grow up and find value in themselves outside of appropriating LGBT identity.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I have not heard "enby" before. It sounds like "envy" as spoken by someone with a cold, or the name of a heroine in a teen fantasy novel.

Back in my day people also claimed to have Aspergers/Autism. It's kinda the same but this time is with binary/non-binary stuff.

But, like

a lot of people did, and do, actually have autism

and I think the same is true on the other side of the analogy

I never bought that theory. Fandom's unironically autistic, like the kind that a doctor diagnosis you with. Think it's more that there's dicks out there who are also autistic than fakers.

A... Lot of people did have undiagnosed autism, tho, because the way it presents in women isn't the same as it presents in men and that was and still kinda is being severely overlooked.

Jesus fuck, just say you're uncomfortable with people experimenting with their gender.

It always strikes me as the same sort of weird that makes people decide they're transgender or non-binary because they don't have Traditionally [Gender] Hobbies. Y'know what I mean.

"I don't like wearing skirts, or pink, and I like videogames, but that's fine, because hobbies and clothing don't need to be gendered anyway!" has become "I don't like wearing skirts, or pink, and I like videogames, that means I must not be a girl, so obviously I'm non-binary, or bi-gender, because I like boy things too!"

It's contradictory, and really sets back what people have been trying achieve for literally years. You're basing your identity on outdated sexism people have been trying to get past. You're taking a step backwards, here.

This sort of stuff is literally no different. Transgender people have been saying for ages that you don't need a penis to be a man, or a vagina to be a woman, to the point where relatively mainstream media are now saying 'people who have periods' instead of 'women'.

And yet... here's this person (and others like them), saying they're non-binary AND a woman, presumably ... because they have a vagina.

It's frustrating. People wanting to tick too many identity boxes make it very hard for others to be taken seriously.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-21 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
This argument again!

People being non-binary is not entrenching sexist stereotypes, any more than the existence of trans people is entrenching sexist stereotypes. It's the same argument and it's not any more valid.

I've never gotten the don't have to have vagina to be a woman. If it's not defined by the biological role than what is it?

The societal role? Then isn't that just upholding it?

I don't really get the nb thing. No, I guess I understand it, but I don't really buy into the nb thing. One of my Tumblr kids is supposedly nb. She just seems like a young woman to me. I don't think I've seen anyone but young, femme women do the nb they/them singular pronoun thing. It seems different to me from being gender-fluid or being trans.

ETA: I remembered one person who doesn't entirely fit that stereotype. LB_Lee, who used to post here, is kind of a "they" by virtue of being multiple, and as I recall one of his five personalities used singular "they."

I've been watching this thread for like an hour for the lols and literally cannot remember what the actual secret is about or whether or not it is related to fandom. haha.. Like yesterday's secret with a desert backdrop quickly devolving to Star Wars wankbait. Amazing.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Some people mean they're in the demi-girl zone where they feel more female than male but aren't 100%. Some people mean they're NB but out in public in meatspace they present as female. Some people mean they're deeply involved in feminist causes and are 'politically a woman', even though they don't feel wholly connected to a binary gender.

In general, there are a lot of people who think them not "feeling" male or female all the time and even having passing dysphoria feelings makes them in some way special and different when in reality, that's something almost all people experience.

Full on agender person here and... admittedly there hasnt been many but I'm seriously side-eyeing the people in this thread who are like "I'm not a fan of trans/nb identities". Like... we aren't asking you to be FANS of us. We aren't saying you should ask us for autographs or send us gifts in the mail or join our fanclubs like we're fucking Mettaton. We just want you to NOT say we're fake or lying or making up our actual / shared experiences to quote-unquote "feel special"... the same courtesy you would offer any cis person, you know? Is that too much to ask?

I had to look at this secret like three times to even *get* what that person (queer Chinese-Canadian) was saying. And why the blank space in there?

I don't even *notice* that stuff most of the time unless somebody really shoves it out there - i pretty much never read people's profiles or anything.

Just...don't care? I won't remember, anyway, unless i'm interacting with them daily.
