109. Or maybe, instead of paying all your attention to snatch, you're paying attention to the rest of the person. I'm right there with you - it's weird when it first happens, but dude. Labels just make things more difficult. There's pretty people out there - why limit yourself to only ogling the ones with tits? (Mmm. Tits.)

123. Most fandoms aren't anything other than ship wars and squeeing, because in a lot of cases, there isn't anything deeper to the medium. But there are fen out there who have academic discussions about their fandoms (and about the other fen! Sociologists and anthropologists make great fandom friends, yo)... they just aren't as visible.

133. SECONDED.

138. I have a beer here, with your name on it.

140. Ain't it fun?

147. ...Why do you do these things to me, anon? WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?

163. whut.

166. As long as you don't mean that literally, that's awesome.

Hooray for free beer!

& no, I don't mean it literally - it's just the best way I could get the sentiment across.

ME TOO! I didn't even realise that "The Golden Compass" was supposed to be Northern Lights when I saw the book in Canada last summer until I saw the Subtle Knife next to it in a bookshop. I get that "The Golden Compass" fits better with the style of the other titles, but it was Northern Lights first, wasn't it? It sounds nicer too, grander.

Don't even get me started on SORCERER'S Stone. Agh. It doesn't get any more American-sounding. Hello, they're British books, set in Britain with British characters. ARGH! I'm glad I don't live in America.

155. HAHA, YESSSS. One late night I was bored and decided to watch Bleach on Adult Swim, and Ishida just so happened to be in that episode. When he started talking, all I could say was, "OH FUCK IT'S THE DIGIMON EMPEROR."

Wow, what a pretentious twat you are.

106, 132, 145

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy day of the Persona secrets, batman.

106. Not even close. I love Shinji, and most of the P3 fans I know love him too, especially with Aki. Aki's reaction to his death broke my damn heart, and I don't think that's ever happened to me in an RPG before.

132. I keep hearing that from the female fans, but... why? Kawaii anime boys who look like girls are a dime a dozen; potentially kick-ass cross-dressing anime chicks who look kinda' like guys are not. Admittedly Naoto isn't my type, as a guy, so I was never interested in the first place, but heck even if the protagonist or Yousuke or Kanji, who I do find hot, turned out to be a girl I'd be ecstatic.

145. I never said it wasn't realistic. But in the end you have to show them who you really are, or it's not you they're friends with.

145 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-07-19 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I at least hope I do a good job of that, and-- well, this was more of a self-realization/I hope I'm doing this right/whatever type thing, but... thinking about it more, if I'm failing at friendship altogether, I guess it's not for this reason, so...

Pointless secret is pointless. :(

Thank you for taking the time to reply, though!

[identity profile] smirk-dog.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)

123.) Go to Metafandom. That's where all the pretentious little $#%! hang out.

117

[identity profile] lovedforaday.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

Some Martha fans are so defensive to the point of absurdity; all the RTD is hates Martha and Freema talk is ridiculous. I can agree that the show wasn't that interested in developing Martha's character like they were Rose and Donna, but to say that the character is hated, that's a little on the crazy side. Not to mention how completely off putting it is.

Some Rose fans are straight hypocrites. They'll whine about Rose getting a raw deal in fandom, how sick they are of Rose's every fault is magnified by fandom, and then sit around and bash Martha every little thing the character has ever said or done -- If we're supposed to give Rose a break for whining and being upset because OMG the stress, why do they pile on Martha for whining? Add their hypocrisy to going around blathering about Rose and the DOCTAH'S epic love and the DOCTAH loves Rose more than any companion EVER shit, and you have a recipe for annoying-osity.

I try avoid most Martha discussion that involves RTD and her development because I know it's going to devolve into complain and bash Rose fest, and I avoid any Rose discussions headed by Rose/Doctor shippers if I can help it. It's a lot better for me that way.

LMFAO, OMFG. I'm in a secret, WITH WILLIAM SHATNER!!!!!! Fucking ROTFL!
Although she isn't my fandom idol. It was more that at the time I had no idea there was even such a thing as fandom, and wanted there to be a Christine Daae in the world who'd love Erik. Aww, sappy and pathetic, huh?

114. But it is. Mostly. :D No offence to the really great writers, though.
120. Exactly. .. I still do think the anime was way better. The manga is just.. I don't know. Something is missing.
151. I don't hate her either. And I do kind of agree, now that I think of it. But I still liked her, even just a little.
160. Yes. That's why I rarely say I'm a fan of anything.

128, 142, 166

[identity profile] sweetnnaive.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] lucia-tanaka.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
139. Idiots. I've listened to Armchair Apocrypha and Mysterious Production of Eggs. What part of either one is nonsense? The only thing I can think of is maybe they didn't get "Synthian Empires"... God knows I pull something different from it every time.

[identity profile] yuumeko.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
143. moar FFT secrets. also, try not to stab him on your birthday.

157. gonna go downlaod that now

164. While I agree I don't really like those books, you should really just write because you like it. Getting as big as those two series did is already an accomplishment. It would be a shame to scorn your fandom-- just think, a large following of people who simply enjoy your writing-- just because the internet says so? Just as you said.

123, 126, 172

[identity profile] agilesreader.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
123- Why can't it be both ways? Sometimes I look for deep meaning and enjoy well written fic that has lots of depth. Why can't I also squee over my favorite actor? Why can't I like it out of pure escapism? I work hard in a good job, I am working toward my second advanced degree. I am intelligent enough to appreciate the multiple aspects of fandom. And I also want some nice eye candy and pure escapism just for the hell of it sometimes.

126 LOL! Whatever floats your boat! I also like men in beards!

172- Fine enough reason.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
102. I don't even know how to react to hardcore fans of that book. I'll encounter one or two in real life, adn all I can think is..."But...but it seems like you actually have a functioning brain and some degree of taste!"

117. I agree, though I feel a bit opposite about a few of those--the Rose-bashing always makes me dislike Martha a bit more, especially if it turns into "Rose saved the world through whining, Martha saved it through being hardcore."
I don't like Martha. I don't dislike her. But I'm tired of these two constantly being compared as if to like one means you must LOATHE the other. They were both companions. They're not his only companions.

133. I think I wouldn't be able to associate with someone who believed that. At all. See 102.

158. I only saw the first episode, but I have to say that funny as they were, they seemed like a one-trick pony. When I want stand up comedy, I want something a bit more real, a bit less "Hey boys and girls, we're going to be fake and ironic the whole time. Golly!"

140. It's fun!

142. Lovely picture, and good ship. I think I should get back into it.

144. HA! That played at the Sainsbury's while I was in the queue, and it took all my willpower not to sing along. BTW, it's "attract" the worm (Dune reference+Christopher Walkin=FTW!)

164. Those books give me hope, actually. If that drek can be published, then surely the great secret is just writing--putting one word after another. Once I can do that, I'll be unstoppable!

172. *sigh*

173. I'm scared.
