lolz there's a manga + the original version you could look into too. just fyi. +A+

Pfft.
I'm really surprised that you can't stand the way Arakawa portrays women. Considering the way that some shonen manga treats women (Dorohedoro, Naruto, etc.), a good many readers would consider FMA a relief.
Also, I bet you never got to the part with Izumi Curtis.

Re: 120

Izumi kicks ass.

105; I feel exactly the same. I do wish it'd start up again, though.

159; you're missing the point. Michael's actually kind of dark at the end of the show :(

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
123. Although I've had my fair share of squee-ing, I'd like to think the "Modern Mythology" bit applies, too, particularly when it comes to things like fanon and AU. (The interesting or good ones, anyway.)

128. I don't care about the second one, but I much prefer Philospher's Stone for the HP title, since it makes more sense...

155. I only watch Bleach to hear Ken's voice again, these days. XD I understand why people like it, I think it's interesting, there's just so many characters and episodes that I lose interest after a while. So....yeah, essentially I feel the same way.

Re: 155

[identity profile] malik-chan.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I started watching Bleach because I loved the manga so much, and the entire time I read the read the manga, I would always say Ken's voice actor would be great for Ishida... and he got it! Let's just say I was REALLY EXCITED about it! That voice made Ishida my favorite character in the series (so did his personality and looks, but mostly that voice!).

But hearing that voice again renewed my love for Digimon. *is a nerd*

123. Hasn't fandom always been about the squee? And you know, there's nothing wrong with escapism.
karel: (oriya; if one thing really means one)

[personal profile] karel 2008-07-18 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Of but don't you know? People who indulge in escapism are nothing more than silly children who need to grow up and face the hard, cruel world.

Same here, man. Heck, I'll probably wait till The Dark Night comes out on Netflix. And then I'll probably only watch it because it was shot in my home town.

But Hellboy? I am so there! :D So sue me if I like my movies campy as opposed to dark and angsty.

go and play the game, it will eat your soul good. <3

Re: 127

[identity profile] magpiggles.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I think shipping is tied up fairly strongly with Torment fans.
I've known people who refused to romance Annah because they didn't want to betray Diereanna...or Ravel.

I have that same phobia. I have so much I want to write, but I just get so, so scared.

But then I console myself by saying "you know you can write better than that, and if that that shit can get sold, so can yours. you can do this."

but it doesn't work that well.

158. Ugh. That casting decision peeves me because Chun Li is THE STRONGEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD and. I want a strong-looking woman to play her. A woman with AMAZING MUSCLED THUNDER-THIGHS. Not a twig. AND I SAY THIS AS A RATHER TWIGGY FEMALE.

123

[identity profile] gingasaur.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you 100%. All the "squeeing" I do comes as a direct result of how much whatever I'm watching has affected me and enlightened me. I've been lucky that I've been able to find friends who feel the same way, and we can never understand why shipping is always more important than the real life lessons that really good television can bring you. :/

113) OH NO CALL IN THE NATIONAL GUARD. Seriously though, you're allowed your opinion. DDR was my introduction to the rhythm game genre, and while I'd love to go back and play a few rounds, after two and a half years of Guitar Hero, my brain has rewired itself. I can't even do a six-foot.

142) I wouldn't have guessed that was fanart if you hadn't said it. That's some great style matching.

156) Still haven't seen the Dark Knight, but who says they both can't rock?

160) lol wut

163) I'm assuming that's from the Producers and I wholeheartedly agree.

168) I'd consider going bi for Kariya.

Shipwars are always made of fail anyway. Apparently when I got into this show I missed the memo that liking Doctor/Rose meant I was supposed to vehemently despise Martha, so I ended up just liking all of them. Blasphemy.

But yeah, I've heard other people who prefer Martha talk about how rabid Rose fans make them dislike Rose, and to be honest it's kind of a similar reaction for me when Martha fans talk about how much Rose sucks. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG :|

114 - Well, yes. So what?

117 - This is exactly why I'm afraid to leave my sandbox in the Bleach fandom. (At least in the English language part of it. As for the Japanese part, I just avoid 2ch like the plague.)

120 - Word. Though for me, the last straw was the "OMG ROY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MARIA ROSS!!!11 ...oh, so you've done nothing. Oh, okay." plotline. I hate it when writers pull that trick.

123 - Wait, wait. You say people are *gasp* trying to enjoy themselves with their hobby? They're... having fun?! I AM REVOLTED!!! *plays world's smallest violin*

132 - wait, what fandom is this?

146 - you realise that the Japanese themselves probably don't even regard these characters as "foreigners," right?

147 - WHAT. #_#

155 - lol Ishida. <3

164 - Remember, the books may suck but their authors have made lots of money from them. (I suppose?)

Too Big 1/123: ...and it can't be all three of these things why now? Why does it always have to be one or the other? Can't people squee and have fun while still discussing and learning?

[identity profile] daisy-the-mage1.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you silly billy! Fandom is meant to be a place full of intellectual discussion. You're meant to write long essays of humanity and brilliant works of fiction that would make Jane Austen envious!

Okay, on a serious note, I thought that the main purpose of fandom (or at least a vast majority of them) was entertainment. Even Shakespeare would have written his plays for entertainment. Not that other people can't discuss and learn as well but what's the point in being there if you aren't there to enjoy it?
