173. You are right and you are wrong. Comparing Light and Hitler is rather shallow and without real basis. This is because Light was not racially motivated. But Light was NOT killing people "for the lulz." He was killing people he deemed unfit to live. Yes it was because of their actions not their genes, but that doesn't make it just for the hell of it. And he was motivated by attempts at gaining power. No, he wasn't doing it for land, but he was doing it to gain power over people.

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
116. I...actually shout that without Tourette syndrome. (Good gosh, how nerdy does that make me?) I can imagine how frustrating it must be to be forced into it involuntarily, though! I actually watched a TV program on that a week or so ago, so I can kinda-sorta-possibly understand it, at least? (I'd almost think it'd be better than swearing, but...I'm not sure about that.)

117. Why would your flist kill you for that??? Both are great games! (Although I haven't played either of them, but I admire both?)

127. I wouldn't call you racist, just misinformed. Compare the art of Cromartie High School (http://www.anime-planet.com/anirec/cromartie-high-school) to the art in your secret. There's difference in style just the same as there's difference in western art. What you described is what a lot of the art looks like, but certainly not all of it.

159. Monster isn't completely ignored! I haven't seen it yet, but people at the Anime News Network form and on Anime-Planet have been making it sound SO good that I'm looking forward to it coming out in the States like nobody's business.

165. You do know that, in turn, Nadia was based off of early drafts for Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle in the Sky, right?

174. When I was a kid I used manga as coloring books.

180. ...I got irrational when people whined about Greg Ayres in the Ouran dub, so you're not alone. XD;;;; But they didn't have a good point in my opinion...

SIGN ME UP. This is a fabulous idea.

[identity profile] teal-deer.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
140. fucking signed. I couldn't even finish this book and it has made me forever terrified of dark hallways.

162. I love this movie! It does need fandom...

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
102. I don't particularly understand why anyone would read spoilers, but especially for something like ASoIaF. It doesn't make sense. If you read the spoilers...what's the point of reading those books? When I started GoT on a whim, I was ravenous--I devoured all four in about two weeks because I was desperate to see what happened next.
If you know what happened next...why bother reading at all? How do you get that thrill of things coming together or shattering to pieces that he's so good at?

104. Quite probably. But that goes for Hamill!Joker as well.

105. HAH! To be perfectly honest, I had two professors I shipped. Not, like, seriously, but if Sequential Art at SCAD were a fandom, everybody would ship these two. I remember thinking when one of them got married, "But what about *other one*? What's he gonna do?"

107. You make a good point.

110. Thank you for putting that up. I'd never heard of her. I just finished "You're Wearing the Wrong Duck on Your Head." She makes me feel hopeful about fandom again.

124. Oh come on--he's a whimsical yet not stupid madman who makes magic candy and acts sarcastic all day long, while playing people for suckers. How can you not?

157. Oh well. The good thing about the Doctor is that it's all him, so it's all good.

165. Huh. I love Beauty, read it all the time, but I never really made the connection. I still don't quite see it (I'll grant the others without even a blink). I mean, there are similarities (she likes books, magical servants), but not enough to make me go THIEVES!!!! Maybe it's more like The Books of Magic/Harry Potter, where Gaiman (whose comic came first and featured a young, bespectacled, messy-haired boy-wizard with a snowy owl as a familiar) said sometimes people come up with the same good idea independantly of each other. Because honestly, Beauty was more about histories and studying than Belle, who liked storybooks. Belle was the most beautiful girl in the village, her father was a nut, she was an only child, she had a swain...
At any rate, the other two are independant stories. B&B is based on an old fairy tale, so it makes sense ideas are going to pop up more than once.

170. OMYGOSH I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!
Seriously, it's almost like a physical pain, sometimes, the desperate desire to magically beta her stuff before it hit the press. "Yeah, this is good...but it could be perfect."

I believe it was to compensate for this that my mind started subconsciously shipping him with John Barrowman. I'm sorry guys, the gay-off episode was just too much for my slash goggles!

DISNEY SECRETS FTW

Oh man I saw this page once that showed every TLK character's Kimba counterpart. There was even this dark lion with a black mane who was all ">:(!!!", idk I saw Kimba once ages ago, but IT WAS KIND OF DISTURBING TO READ.

Disney still did it better though.

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
110. Why? It's true, but does that make it an okay thing? I don't know. I have a hard time feeling like every possible interpretation of a show is acceptable. Take Avatar, for example - the series just ending and now there are many fans calling for the creator's heads and trashing them because they were watching a different show. How are the rest of the fans supposed to accept that?

(Note: Have not read the article, going off of the first paragraph shown there)

121. SEEK COUNSELLING.

127. It's not racist, but it uh... really doesn't all look the same. That much should be obvious to anyone who has a wide enough body of anime to draw off of - and since you are not an anime fan, maybe you shouldn't argue the point that it doesn't all look the same since you probably haven't seen anywhere near as much of it as other people.

173. Light didn't kill people for fun. People compare Light to Hitler/Nazis because the same belief is at the core: You can "purify" the human race by killing the bad apples (and Light/Hitler, of course, are the people who have the power to dictate who is and isn't a bad apple). There really shouldn't be any debate about that, it's a pretty elementary comparison - and of course it falls down when you get into detail because all simple comparisons do, but that doesn't mean there's 0 validity to it.

[identity profile] laytonmeme.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
117. First ZERO/FaFr game was better
lol sorry D: automatic tic

118. Do I know you? Someone linked me to this. I thought the same thing

127. Go watch some Satoshi Kon and come back please

128. Wow. Weirdly, I LOVE Catherine Tate, but I hate her comedy. I think it's awful and repetitive (with the exception of a few really awesome jokes, like the squadron of gingers)

136. JKR may have her flaws, but that is one of the most beautifully delivered lines in fiction.

143. They put me off forever as well. it looks like SUCH an awesome show but seriously her eyes are ridiculous
Laziness is the main reason I haven't watched it though

165. The fact is, Disney kinda did them better. :( Sorry. I say this as a child who grew up with Kimba and knows - heck, it's OBVIOUST - that they ripped it off. THis might be why most people just don't care or ignore it when you start on about how Disney stole from Japan or what have you.
hell, if they managed to make The Hunchback of Notre Dame into a classic of chidlren's film then what do you expect they'd do with a bunch of terribly animated (though admittedly ace) anime?

177. THEY ARE OTP ♥ ;-;

179. The fandom I've encountered this sentiment in is not Yu-Gi-Oh, but still ; WHY do you have this idea that you can't ship it sexually in some contexts while being able to ignore the sex in other contexts (and just appreciate it as a loving, brotherly relationship)?
SERIOUSLY, I SEX-SHIP AND PLATONIC-SHIP A BUNCH OF THE SAME PAIRINGS. IT IS NOT HARD.

Nadia does not equal Atlantis. Seriously. Did you watch the two of them? They definitely have similar character designs, I'm not even going to pretend, but they have completely different intents and purposes. Saying that they're the same just makes you look like an idiot.

P.S. That argument got old 6 years ago. We've heard it before, and guess what: no one cares anymore.

148- I think in the Doctor Who universe, which includes the audio plays and print books, Harry is still alive and the head of MI-5. However the actor who played him died in a car crash 20 years ago.

143. I understand it. Characters with pupils that aren't black or really dark brown (unless they are blind) break my suspension of disbelief automatically. SORRY, but there's a reason pupils are black. They're a HOLE so that the LIGHT can hit the photoreceptors at the back of the eye! If there's a light colored pupil, it means the light is reflecting off, not penetrating into, the eye. And thus they COULD NOT SEE.

I don't mind if they give a reason (so-and-so is blind, so-and-so has false eyes [see avatar... hurr], blah blah) but they usually don't. It's just to *~*be special*~*. Gag me.

165. A-HA YOU SAW DANIEL JACKSON IN HIM TOO?!?! They're like, exactly the same!

Also the Kimba thing is so very, very explicit. There's no question it was a remake where they couldn't get the rights like they had expected. As for Nadia, I haven't seen enough to know for certain, but it certainly seems like a rip-off. As I said, I saw more "Stargate!" than anything.
