Aughhhh, I'm currently reading the series for the first time and just read the Red Wedding last night. I totally understand not wanting to read through the whole scene, because HOLY CRAP SO MUCH DDDDDDDD:.

108: Judging from the state of the fandom, you're not alone.

127: I think most people would just go "wtf, are you blind?" rather than yell. Also, hating a whole medium because many of the styles have a few similar attributes seems a little... dismissive?

157: I wanted to like ten more, because nine wasn't coming back, and I would be much happier preferring the current Doctor. I failed, unfortunately, and miss nine like crazy. I love ten as well, just not as much (and the romance subplot with Rose was annoying).

173: I think people draw the parallel because both Light and Hitler thought that they had the right to kill the people they felt deserved it, and that they were making a better world by doing so.

181: Good grief, that book sure is everywhere. And it's not even good! Even Anne Rice and Laurell Hamilton write better!

Well... Hitler only blamed the Jews because he hated them... Light truly thought he was going to make the world a better place by killing off criminals.

140 - Yes! My world was sent into a tailspin after I finished that book. I was extremely paranoid for quite some time. There was a bit near the beginning when Johnny talks about *something* being just beyond his peripheral version and creeping up to rip him apart with huge claws (like the ones that made the grooves in the wood of Zampano's apartment floor). I couldn't stop looking over my shoulder after that.

Are you kidding? When I read it I was too scared to even do that (because then it would BE THERE and find me ohgod)

165. oh wow

Older than the internet, man. Everyone ~knows~. But bitches get butthurt because the Disney "versions" (TLK, I'm looking at you) get $$$ and critical acclaim. So yeah, haterz to the left. For once, something from Japan isn't superior. SHI-

Also, no more Atlantis hate plz. This movie is brilliant, dark, and is steampunk. A real winner.

[identity profile] belgian-ink.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
158 - I only recently got into hercules because I now see all the Greek Mythology references especially in the series and my love for Greek Mythology only sparked my new love for Hercules!

159 - I agree, Monster's plot is way better than Death Note in every way.

173 - FINALLY! Someone said it!

157, 167, 186

157. I think that might be happening to me. :[ I'm just getting midway into the second season after a looong bout of sulking over the loss of Nine (yeah, I'm way late to the party) and I have to say, though I still sometimes think Ten can be a douche, he's growing on me.
167. I don't know what show that is, but that woman is gorgeous.
186. I'm SO GLAD I'm not the only one this happened to. Though I suspect your dream was scarier than mine. I dreamed he was tracking me down to kill me (for whatever reason, does he need one?), but then when he found me hiding in a parked car, he wanted me to sign something for him. XD I was still pretty freaked out and convinced I wouldn't be let off that easy, but then I woke up, and ever since then I've been wanting to go see TDK again...

Thank you very much! I am a huge Death Note fan, and you are the first person I've come across who rec'd Monster in a way that wasn't totally obnoxious. "OH MY GOD WHY DO YOU LIKE DEATH NOTE IT SUCKS READ MONSTER INSTEAD IT IS OBVIOUSLY SO MUCH BETTER!!!" I have gotten so sick of that attitude that I've been kind of reluctant to read past Volume 1. (Which was decent. I'm not in love the way I was with Death Note, but I do want to read more.) So thank you for recommending it in a sane, civilized manner, without jumping down the throats of Death Note fans.

107 You'd think, but actually I think they're mostly just realizing all the crap they made up for themselves when they were thirteen.

110 The problem is those fans who think it's more important to be right than to be inclusive. For them, the people watching some other show are bad fans who are an insult to some Platonic Ideal of the show, where all the viewers have the same narrative priorities and expectations as the creators. They wouldn't even be able to get through that article because they'd just be thinking, "but all those other people are wrong!"

131 I do the same thing when I write non-canon ships; it's very important to me to find pairings for the "left out" part of the couple. And if I read a story that ships other than I do, if the writer also finds a pairing for the left out person, I'll like it a lot better.

132 I don't care if it's a repeat; I adore him.

138 Cat Cora is seriously hot.

147 I agree that it's much more than a clone, though I think I liked the later Indy movies more than you did, OP.

150 I can't see past those 90's bobs. Like, how would they tell whose hair that is on the pillow?

165 Seriously, Beauty and the Beast? Do they also think Disney made up Snow White and Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty?

170 God I wish you would.

173 First, by now people just use Hitler as a convenient Really Bad Guy for Comparison; that's why there's an internet law about it. Second, in my experience (as a history teacher at a school with a lot of European and Asian immigrant students) there are plenty of Europeans who have no idea what Hitler did other than invade some countries until Britain held them back bravely. Americans don't have the monopoly on ignorance of history, believe me.

175 Well, you can always ship Della with Paul.

179 Whatever you think, calling someone a bad fan isn't cool.

Disney is so thoroughly not original, in the old movies at the very least. I disagree that Lion King = Kimba, though, it's actually Hamlet =/

#165

[identity profile] velocichica.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
So, if Kimba truly is exactly the same as TLK and people are mad that it got ripped off... does that mean as a Shakespeare fan I should be pissed that Kimba ripped off Hamlet?

117 - I love them both but I must say... Sniper Wolf was kind of hard to beat with the sympathy thing for me anyway. But FFII... It's a real tricky one!

144 - I've never seen that version! That's the one I use ;D
