I hate that movie for what it did to these girls at school. Now they giggle over the Beatles like it's some sort of fad. And it's hilarious, because they only like their early stuff. I guess Sgt. Peppers CD went over their head. Thank you, Within You Without You for being my favorite song that they will never understand because it doesn't have to do with teenage 'love'.

Babs is his niece/adopted daughter and I believe she came to live with him after his divorce (wife got James Jr, don't think the daughter exists in comics). Hopefully she'll show up later on in the movie-verse.

141. I've noticed that before, too. Personally, I think femslash is better off being kept quite separate from m/m slash. It's got a different dynamic, and a different history, and it only loses out in being shunted in as the-other-slash-nobody-ever-talks-about.

154. Firstly - because it can't be said often enough - being female is not a get-out-of-misogyny-free card. Lots of women are sexist.

Back on topic, I think at this point one needs to distinguish between Spoiler the character, and Spoiler the symbol. What she represents as a rallying point for feminist criticism of comics isd actually completely seperate from what you think of her as a character. What was done to her by editorial dictat was disgusting, and a crystalised example of the shoddy treatment of female characters by the big two. That stands whether you think she was a good Robin or not, and there's room to dislike Spoiler as a character while still respecting what she represents to many many people.

171. I know! That was mind-boggling. I mean, there are so many themes in Dark Knight which would make bringing Babs in an infinitely more intelligent move. It'd have been a wonderful bit of intertextuality for Batman fans who know Barbara's connection to all the things that came up in this movie - people following in Batman's footsteps and getting hurt, morally ambiguous use of surveillance, the Joker's presence + use of civilian family against Jim foreshadowing TKJ. All that just waiting there, and they go with the little aryan boy?

Also, the bit where Two-Face decides that James Jr is the family member Jim loves the mostest of all his family is seriously icky. (And totally distracted me from what else was going on in the movie, because I was so busy thinking of all the moments in the comics where it's so clear Jim thinks Babs lit the stars.)

I'd like to go with comic continuity and just say he's not adopted Babs yet, but then why even give him a daughter? Why not just the wife and son?

But the son is the one he "loves most" and we never even see the daughter's face. Usually seeing the character's face means they're important, while limiting a character's screen time and refraining from showing their face limits their importance.
