140. You're not alone. I used to RP, and I made great friends... and then, somewhere along the way, I lost them all. I don't know what happened. Sometimes i wish I could get back into rping, but it hurts to think about the friends I don't talk with anymore.

I'm also afraid I just don't have the skill to RP like I used to.

147. I don't think you quite grasp the difference between being crazy and not acting on it, and not being crazy. Don't belittle it.

151. Only one where? NY? Lol. Let's have a Twilight hate party.

N!S9. Lol, I agree. And yet all these teenage girls are reading it, and I'm actually concerned they're going to go out and seek out these kind of "romantic" relationships.

134

[identity profile] toxictattoo.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoy yaoi and I enjoy slash. I'm a guy. I'm gay. Believe it or not, I'm far more forgiving of cliches and tropes in fanfiction than a lot of your 'sisters'. I am far less going to scream "you're not doing it right" than other female fans because I can put away the demand for "proper realism" and just enjoy good writing.

I've written using blood for lube. I've written fic that had people going 'are you sure you're a dude?' (LOL, yeah, I hold my dick in my hand several times a day when I take a piss. It's real.) I've written schmoop, fluff, romance, violence, down and dirty sex, gen, het...the list goes on.

I've never felt welcome in many of the comms I've joined. I've never really felt a part of fandom, no matter how hard I try to show that I can play with the best of them, write some pretty damn good fic, squeal and squee like the second coming.

Now I see why. [sigh]

Re: 134

[identity profile] shiplizard.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, dude. I don't fully agree with the OP, I do like having dudes around (for that occasionally painful dose of realism).

I think what the OP has bad (and I have a little myself) is this ground-in impression that you have to be strong in front of guys. Even if they're understanding, even if they're supportive, if you get ~*~girly~*~ in front of a dude once, that's all they'll ever think of you again.

True? Probably not with most guys. But it's a fear.

I'm sorry you haven't felt included, and if you have a link to your fic I'm always interested in reading stuff written by someone with the actual equipment.

Do you really think a good live-action Cowboy Bebop is impossible? Seriously, it's probably the single easiest animated property I can think of to make in live action. Hell, they pretty much already did.

Re: 106

(Anonymous) 2008-08-13 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
except firefly is not cowboy bebop.

there are going to be certain expectations riding on the back of making a live action from a very popular (and with good reason) anime. think of all the movie adaptations of comics and cartoons you've seen and how many have missed the mark horribly as opposed to hitting it square on.

159. You'd be surprised to know that some fansubbers hate karaoke just as much as you do, and only comply because it's fandom's taste. Personally, I think karaoke is silly and would be just fine with normal subs, particulary if the release is soft-subbed to begin with.

But yeah he did a great job.

Your secret makes me happy, OP.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
104. I hate Rachel (but for her own merit, rather than actress/romance), but even I felt some fansquee when it became clear she'd rather stay with Harvey than her depressing, somewhat psychotic somewhat selfish childhood friend who had the broodingly sexy thing going for him. That felt genuine, and score one for women making intellgent relationship choices.
...
Granted, five seconds later...Oh man, Harvey yelling, "No, you were supposed to go after her!" was for all of us.

112. Y'know, these secrets are making me want to troll-flood F!S with the "hit the Joker" secrets.
Not to mention, they're just arrogant. A) Heath!Joker and Comics!Joker are different characters. It's okay if people would hit one and not the other. B)It's even okay for them to make secrets of it. Just because it seems boring and obvious to you doesn't mean it is to them. My liking for the psychos is well-known, so I'm not ashamed, but some folk, especially the younger ones, are probably freaked out by being so drawn to such a dark, chilling character.

118. Oh word yes. Seriously, the on-screen chemistry wal pallipable.

123. Oh, Steward and Colbert, make us proud to be Americans again, please.

126. Platonically, yeah. They've gotta be together forever.

137. I AM SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE FOR WHOM THE SOCKS DO IT!
I have a thing about guys in tacky/oddly colourful clothes. Between the socks, the shirt, and the waistecoat...Ooooh, it's like unwrapping a Christmas present! But especially those socks. I want a pair!

139. There is no comparison. I was crushed after Wash's death (even moreso because I'd been semi-spoiled for it, but I still cried out "NO!" in the theatre when it happened. Granted, I sobbed for half an hour and spent the rest of the weekend in a depressed daze after Fred's).
Of course Wash didn't deserve to die. That's probablh why Josh killed him--he took the character who was most on the perif, who was bright and cheerful and not-quite-dirty. He could've done Kaylee, but that would've gotten him lynched, and forever-unrealised-love is sad, but not as sad as knowing Wash and Zoe will never have a little mini-them. Their relationship is one of my favourite things in the history of television, stories, and characters ever.

142. To be fair, that version of Colbert is basically a character, rather than a real-real person.
I still want.

147. It really wasn't. I haven't seen Iron Man, but I can imagine it being better. I'd only see it twice for Heath, really. It just didn't pull off a coherent story as well as it should've.
Kevin Conroy may be >>>>Christian Bale, but is he >>>Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Heath Ledger?

157. You make a good point. Also doesn't hurt that Jamie is my favourite companion. Well, once Donna came along, it was a tie. And there's always Evelyn.
But the difference, I think, is that Jamie was a fully realised person before he met the Doctor. He was a soldier, he knew his measure, he had full confidence in himself to be friggen cool. Donna didn't, even though she was basically the coolest character to come along since Jamie. She didn't know that about herself. And then she did. And now she doesn't anymore.
Extended canon says he survived the war, and helped the Doctor again when older, but died doing so. I like the idea (I'm fuzzy on the how, exactly) that Jamie and the Doctor got around the whole thing and travelled the universe together for many more years. But either way, to me, Jamie definitely survived the war.
His last words to the Doctor break my heart, though.

[identity profile] cdaae.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
139 - Word. I didn't see it in the theatre, but I cried out "Nooo!" at home, and I'm pretty sure I'd have cried out the same thing if I'd seen it on the big screen. Joss is so effing cruel! And I must have spent a week in a depressed daze after Fred died. In fact I can't watch Angel after "Smile Time"... although it's more that I can't bear Wes's pain than that I really loved Fred.

157 - Word on this too.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)

158. Yeah, the final moment when I just couldn't anymore was when she showed off her ring to Harry, all excited about the marriage, while her husband seemed depressed and ashamed about it. That was just creepy. The heck, Rowling? Seriously?

164. I don't know who that is, but every celeb has the right to privacy, and it bugs me that they don't get it. What they choose to share with us is a gift, and it's awful the way people refuse to allow them a personal life.

166. Oh good, someone else doing it. I already sort of did the tongue-thing while thinking, but I noticed I'm doing it more like him now. >.<

169. HA! That's the first BSC book I ever read, and it was one of my favourite things EVER! Oh man, I so wanted to go on a cruise--and to Disney World!-- after reading that. I hope your honeymoon is just as wonderful without the random drama and such.

Not!Secret 1. I love you. I wish there could be fandom peace talks are something. I've gotten so tired of the "He's not The Doctor!" comments about Ten (and Eight!) recently. What you said. It's about the Doctor. And I still think he'd be ashamed of fandom.

N!S 3. That's just what the Blair witch wants us to think!

N!S 7. Seen? On screen? No, it's not something we've seen before. In the comics where the Joker's been invinted time and time again until he's an art form, yeah, maybe, sure. But any one actor translating that on screen, physically and verbally? No. The best we had was Hamill's Joker, who is still my Joker, but was a wholly different animal.
Getting bored of these.

Too!Big 3. Aww...I only pick up Runaways sometimes, but I thought they were cute.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)

126. Me too, but just platonically. I can't see it going any farther.

166. I've picked up saying "aw-AWW" because of Stan and Kyle.

104. I agree. Those two had much more chemistry than Maggie and Christian Bale, and Rachel and Harvey genuinely cared for each other.

110. ::cough:: I'd totally read that fic.

118. I didn't expect to love that movie as much as I did. I would love to see a sequel with those two, but I agree it's highly unlikely. :( At least there's fic.

121. OMG YES. So wrong, but so right. ;)

158. That's a great comparison. I really liked Tonks at first, too, but I was unimpressed with what JKR did with her. Deb has made mistakes, has been hurt, and has been forced to make tough choices, but she always rises above it and I'm so proud of her.

160. I have my doubts that this is legit, but if it were, it would be funny. At least it's getting people talking about Olympic slash. ;)

144. Magic School Bus for the win. Although I am sorry you failed chemistry.

Salright, I made a B when I retook it as a senior. :) (I wasn't going to fail her again! XD)

107. Yup, that's pretty much Twilight. You could seriously say the first nonsensical thing that comes to your mind and there's a 99.9% chance it happened in the series.

112. You do not like people saying that they'd hit it. WE GET IT. Don't you think making the 9923434th secret to say this is just as stupid as them making the 23942934th secret to say they'd hit it?

118. I hated that movie; but anytime Cillian plays a fucking crazy something or another, I demand a sequel.

125. Yagami Light is the only character whose dub voice I use in my head when I reread the manga. The others get my own special voices. (Mikami has a deep voice, Near sounds like a chick, Matt has a Glaswegian accent, and Mello is a Londoner, and L...well, I rarely read Part I anymore.)

133. Teru. ♥

137. 137/112 OTP!

140. Awwww. ♥

145. I've only read half a volume of Bleach, but every time I see Renji on F!S (or anywhere else on the Net) I get all hot and bothered. He reminds me of someone I know. I’m getting to the point where I want to read Bleach to know more about him. I know, that'd totally make me the worst fan ever, but still…

149. Drying paint >>>>> Christian Bale. But yus, Conroy/Hamill >>>> Bale/Ledger. Of course, that was a given from day one.

151. I hope you're in Middle School if you're the only one who dislikes Twilight. =/ JacobFTW

158. Tonks totally deserved better than what JK gave her. I wish she had left that stupid asshole for trying to ditch her when she was preggers. She should have let him run off and die on his own. He deserved it. Remus has been my favourite character since I first read PoA, but his actions were disgusting.

164. I believe he has a right to be in my pants.

168. OH GAW! IT'S NOT CENSORED ENOUGH! I CAN NEVER UNSEE THAT! DDDDDDDD:

112. maybe if THEY WOULD SHUT THE FUCK UP then we'd shut the fuck up.

107. agree

108. I know how you feel -_-

112. I would, actually.

115. I appritiate your honesty and how much you care about this dandom. You go, girl. Or guy. Whatever.

119. troll...

121. if it helps any, she doesn't quite look 12.

123. lol

125. tempted to watch it just because of shuch.

126. here's hoping it *is* in that platonic way.

127. that's adorably messed up. *claps*

139. please have my baby.

144. MAGICSCHOOLBUS!SECRET FOR THE EFFING WIN

158. I kidna agree, but not to the same extent.

160. I can't help but think this is such a troll who was amused by the fact that some people may believe this. Or question it's truth. Like I am.
meh. *shrug*

166. I used to do that.

168. MEH EYEZ
I WANT MEH VISION BACK

171. you know that when a guy gives you a fetish or a kink just because *they* were doing it...that you're in deep.

I would hit comic him, and then he would hit me....over and over again with a large sledge hammer. I fully understand that he would much rather see me without skin than without clothes but I just love his brain and find crazy interesting enough to be sexy

120. I read it! (ignore the secrets that whined about everyone reading Death Note instead plzkthx--wait, that was for Monster, n/m) Anyway, I agree SO hard.
143. Take your chance now then! It's not as if she's the holier-than-thou arteest type. Hell, she reads F!S.
148. I hope you learned some valuable lessons from this.
160. Nice try!

I was going to ask very nicely that people let up on TDK secrets, but if people are still making "I HAET TWILIGHT" secrets, what's the point?

At least the Watchmen rage has let up for a day; I'm getting weary of people saying the movie's destroyed the fandom six months before it's released.

104. Harvey/Rachel is my favorite ship that has come out of the Nolanverse. I'm very happy she chose him over Bruce too.

124. Maybe it's because Sendhil is married to an equally awesome person and they know how to keep their private lives private? I don't really know. There are people who ship them, myself included, but it's for the laughs and we're not serious or batshit as some of the J2 shippers.

141. I liked Maya in part because I emphasized with her and it is a shame that a lot of the fandom hasn't given her that much of a chance when there were some things about season two that were just as badly written as her storyline. Here's hoping Maya kicks some serious ass in season three so all the haters will give her some respect and STFU.

Thank you. I mean, it helps that Jamie is one of my favourite companions anyway, but I can't help but be a little bit eye-rolly when everyone in fandom carries on as if Donna's fate was uniquely dreadful. It was milked for tears more than the others, I suppose, but milking things for tears is just what New Who does.
