111: lol you probably don't have any friends.

120: awww

130: Well, I guess it would be depressing if Salad Fingers was an actual person in a serious movie, and not a Flash animated salad-man.

141: I wanted to punch that redheaded woman's head off. Who the fuck WHISTLES when they're afraid of large Asian men? You suck, lady.

155: Weren't the main characters kind of not satisfied with working in a convenience store? You won't be glad for long, I'm afraid.

156: AGREED.

175: omg but he's ~~~quirky~~~

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
155. Nah, that's all Randall wanted to do with his life, actually. And in the second one they end up owning the store on their own, 'cause that's all they're happy doing.

For a long time, I never really understood that, but after a few years of not really knowing what I want to do, I kinda get where they were coming from. *shrug*

150. Pardon me, Anon, but is that OSU? Looks vaguely farmiliar. I'm starting to be convinced that, when it comes down to it, college selection resides on a tipping point of odd little 'irrelevent' things. For example, I'm seriously considering my #1 school because, besides great academics and atmosphere, they tried to stage a citizen's arrest on the Karl Rove. So yeah.

156. Well, I don't think it's really a big deal, though some people are entirely too invested in it. I've had people jump down my throat after I passingly mentioned that I didn't like x/y together, and it's just... maybe I don't really "get it" since I don't take shipping very seriously in the first place, but w-wow, most of the time I can't muster up the energy to care that deeply about things from my life, let alone who's sleeping with who in a video game or something. aufdighdfgh

[identity profile] halflight007.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
...A character can't have a birthday on September 11th? My little brother was born on that day. Granted, it was about...two years before the attack on the Twin Towers, but still. We don't let what happened in 2001 taint his special day.

And if you didn't tell anyone the reason you gave your character that birthday? Personally, I don't see a problem, but that could just be because it's my brother's birthday, so I view the day in two separate lights and keep them distinct; a tragedy and a celebration, and I make sure I observe both the memorial ceremonies and my little brother's party.

Again, though, it still boils down to your call and what you're comfortable with.

(...I hope I don't sound like some insensitive, horrible person.)

Re: 164

[identity profile] karma-kalisutah.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
You don't sound insensitive — you sound highly sensible.

September 11th was a horrible, egregious tragedy, but it's hardly the blackest day in all of human history. Or even in American history, really. While it's important to remember and observe it — especially since so many people are still feeling the effects of it — to turn a day on the calendar into some sort of taboo over it would be a bit on the absurd side.

1O1. Dear OP,
Weep for that which inevitably will be lost. While I won't deny that the very fact that it took that webcomic series to invoke feelings about the terms of universal harmony and other shit, I will say that
personally? no, I don't agree.

It goes to say that in achieving what you want, you miss most what was left behind. Fuck no, I don't think we can handle world peace. It's the fucking Olympics, and what the crap is going on in the rest of the globe? Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia.

War, disputes, conquest? It's embedded in our dna. These very tools of destruction set in the human mind came arise with solutions; these moments of chaos bring us the moments of peace. From Greece to the Revolution of every country. Rare is it that social studies does not derive from these events.

Peace is a beautiful thing. The Olympics are a true testament to that. But how selfish to think world peace not built on the terms is the justified, irreproachable is what the nations, as a whole need. As long as humanity, society, and civilization exists, hell on earth will. Mercy only falls from above as a quality unstrained. As with men, there are exceptional events in history that need us to progress. Revolutions, disagreements, provoke this act of striving for more.

Our circumstances can allow for mutualism, but harmony? A rare feat. Acquaintanceship, respect, but peace?

I doubt so. Politics, economics, everything that makes us as we are will not be possible.
