I've always liked Ella Enchanted and Howl's Moving Castle (the movies) better than the books, even though they weren't all that accurate.

1940s Pride and Prejudice has my favorite Lady Catherine in any P&P version.

I like the Cuaron Little Princess for what it is. Terrible adaption but good movie (unlike POA which is both a terrible adaption and a terrible movie).

I love the book, but I also really love the 1995 version of A Little Princess. Movie Sara is pretty different from book Sara, but I still liked her. I don't really like the Pride and Prejudice book, but I really enjoyed the 2005 movie that a lot of people seem to dislike.

Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea didn't strictly follow books but they were so good I love them anyway.

I know it's sort of heresy around here, but I absolutely loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy. (Not the Hobbit, mind you! Those were... mediocre to bad, lmao.) I know they got so much wrong, up to and including the feel of the locations, but I was completely spellbound, and the cast honestly sold me on it. I could watch those any time.

Stanley Kubrick's Shining.

This may be stretching it, but the MCU's take on Black Panther. They changed a TON of stuff about T'Challa's lore and background (in the comics his dad is killed by Klaue and his energy weapons when T'Challa's just a kid and that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of stuff they changed). But MCU!T'Challa and MCU!Wakanda still feel true to the spirit of the comics plus Chadwick Boseman is adorable :P

Practicaly Magic. I LOVE that movie and was surprised how different the book is. Enjoyed that, too but if I had to choose, I'd choose the movie.

The David Bowie version of The Man Who Fell to Earth. Trippy and so different from the book it was based on.

IA about Howl.

I don't know how much needs changing for an adaptation to be inaccurate, but the vast majority of changes made when adapting Clamp manga into anime have been for the better.
