103: I'm afraid not very long, OP. D:

110: I'm an author there too (anon...not so much). I love posting there though I haven't posted there in a week or so. Anyway, I'm sorry you feel that way, OP!

130: I lol'd.

134: Link? :O

144: It's okay. So am I.

151: idk

155: What?

181: I think DBSK's popularity have been declining lately... Especially in Korea.

200: I want a PW/L&O fanfic like burning, OP. And yes, Pheonix vs. Jack McCoy = WIN. <3

103. If by imitation and repetition, you mean "following the standards of the English language (within the English-speaking fandom), keeping characters true to character, and abiding by good storytelling", then I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. Original =/= good. Also, it's a simple fact of human psychology: we're drawn to things that are familiar to us. It's the reason why fictional archetypes exist, and the reason why the most successful works of fiction draw from these archetypes, and from the (spiced-up, and sometimes hyperbolized) fundamentals of human experience. Resent it all you like, but it's never going to change.

105. Not a big fan of it, myself, but people like what they like. Please keep the wank out of this fandom: it's one of the few around that doesn't have any shipping wars, and I'd love for it to stay that way.

119. You want to become a junkie? Smoke yourself some opium.

129. Doctor does sometimes have some ethnic stereotypes (Turn Left, anyone?), but these are not examples of it. Case and point: Where do Jack and Sarah Jane enter into your little equation? Oh wait...

Sorry. Try again.

134. If you're that worried, perhaps post it under a pseudonym. Because I'd like to read it (providing that it has no sex, though, because that really would squick me).

151. But your point is moot, because those secrets are about fictional characters.

185. I really need to get myself to this alternate reality Heroes fandom where it's the Maya-haters who are the minority and dogpiled everywhere. Do I need a TARDIS or something to get there? Or do I just need to take whatever pills you're taking?

I'll start respecting people's dislike of a character when the majority of you guys 1) stop acting like she only came to the US to kill people and get a husband, and 2) stop call the twins "Mexican". You really work harder at forcing Latino stereotypes on Maya than the show ever did. Congrats.

115. I read the first three and I'm one of the people who rips them apart. I hate the assumption that everyone who mocks these books couldn't possibly have read them. But I did. Well, I read Twilight and suffered through the other two in the form of reading, and I won't touch the new one with a ten foot pole.

144. This is slowly becoming true of me. Tsubasa's plot makes no fucking sense anymore, but the art is still gorgeous.

167. ...I'm now going to adopt this philosophy.

179. Troll.

193. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Comedian, though based off another comic book character, had big Joker similarities, which I can see. Since the Joker's been around for way longer... I dunno. Facial scarring isn't isolated to the two of them, anyway.

108. WHOA. Cuddy dying? But what about the massive Huddy fanbase? I have stayed away from House for far too long. D:
115. omg WORD. If you say it sucks just by reading a summary, you are a huuuge loser. At least read it like the rest of us.
155. You have problems. How is this book affecting your life that badly, man.

[identity profile] biocaam.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Agreed! I wish I didn't have to, though.

115. I read all four books and I needed mind bleach after each one (Especially the fourth...) So I mock with authority, dear.

120. OMFG IS THAT HOLO FROM SPICE AND WOLF?! *orgasmS*

168. I've never seen Doctor Who but that fanart is cute. :D

189. So do I! All three, especially Rachel/Harvey. And I went into the theater thinking I was going to hate it and want Bruce and Rachel to end up together. xD

200. Now I want all four like burning. ;_;

121. I'm not here to dispute your taste, but if you were not exaggerating when you said you turned it off after five minutes, you should realize that the first five minutes give a completely wrong impression of what the whole thing is like. No, seriously. They make it look like it's going to be a guy pretending to be a supervillain blabbering on about his e-mails for forty minutes (which the title also seems to support), when in fact that part is just the very beginning and purely there to introduce the character of Dr. Horrible. In fact, I also find the opening rather lengthy and I'm a major fan.

There is only one other blog scene in it if I remember correctly, and it is much shorter and more to-the-point (not to mention being part of the storyline). The actual story is nothing like the first five minutes. I don't know if you'll enjoy the rest of it any more, but if that is all you watched, you really should give it another chance and see how you like it once it actually gets started. It's not just quirky, off-beat humour.

I guess I'll be the unpopular one and say that if you think that there is too much of a pairing then please feel free to write/draw some yourself! Or give it a try if you don’t happen to be a writer. Judging by the One Piece Fic For All you’re not the only one who likes the idea of Zoro and Chopper.

I, for one, am tired of all the hate for a pairing just because it’s popular. I’m not sure if that’s your reason, you didn’t specify your dislike, but I hope that’s not it. There are a number of quality Zoro/Sanji out there. Granted one does have to look a little harder to find it; I can’t argue that.

Also, your background picture for your secret --> http://arnistotle.deviantart.com/

172 - I loved that book as well, but have only read it a few times. I much prefer it to Donaldson's more popular Ring-wielder series.

Re: 172

Oh seriously. I picked up the white gold/ring wielder series from a friend, free, even... and could NOT get invested in the character. Never even got through the first few chapters before wanting to throw it against a wall and yell "If you're so damned bitter about everything, WHY do you even bother trying?!"

You read both books of this one, right? The second one was "A Man Rides Through"...

185. Fandom's decided that hating Maya = misogyny. Period. And it doesn't matter what your reasons are.

Not true. Not for me, at least. Yes, I absolutely believe that some - more like a lot, actually - of Maya haters are misogynists, but if you actually have legitimate reasons for disliking her (i.e., reasons other than "OMG THAT BITCH WHORE GOT IN THE WAY OF MY OTP" or some other similar ridiculousness) I don't think that's misogyny.

In other words, please quit generalizing and making blanket statements about the whole of fandom. It's not very becoming of you.

Paris Hilton is a waste of space. I don't agree with calling her anti-woman slurs, though. Aside from the misogyny of those words, it's just lazy and unoriginal.

151. I'd be flattered. I mean, seriously... sometimes people find other people attractive. It's kind of the natural inclination of people to want to have sex with someone you find attractive, fictional or real. It's human.

The first person after nine pages to say something reasonable in response to this secret. Lord.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
102. World would explode. Too much witty snark in one place.

107. Honestly, it just makes me lawl.

113. I'm inclined to agree. I've loved that musical since I was ten, but I don't really want to get involved in the fandom.

121. See, I almost did as well. In fact, I think I did stop it and go do other things, then came back and tried again. The first five minutes with him on the blog are kind of tedious, especially the first time. It's worth sitting through.

123. 0.o. Meat. Pie. Exactly what it says on the tin. It's a pie...with meat in.
Actually, living in the UK, I'm struck by how often the word "pie" almost always refers to the savoury.

126. Y'know, I say unhealthy, but the truth is, I tend to mean unusual and slightly screwed up. I still think Nine/Rose are my favourite pairing ever, and I wouldn't mind having a relationship like that (so long as it eventually turned into something more).

129. I think these kinds of opinions reflect far far more on the people who insist upon them than the actual show itself. I don't know, it never popped into my head that Martha not being Rose to the Doctor had anything to do with her being black so much as it had to do with her...not being Rose. Which isn't to say Rose is the end-all, be-all, just that when they met, the Doctor was still mourning a companion and wanted her back. The story would've been the same no matter who Martha was played by.

140. Matt?

145. Argueably the biggest reason I watched that movie over and over and over again.

151. Cuz...they're usually fictional, we're shallow, and they're secrets?

157. Ha! It's kind of true, just without me being able to ship them.

161. Honestly, in retrospect, I'm a little bit sad that at some point, "I Am The Walrus" didn't play just so he could sing along with "Don't you think the Joker laughs at you" and do the creepy laugh.
I can see him listening to the White Album. Absolutely.

168. Ugh, I hate it when that happens. It just leaves a bitter taste when there's a great/funny fanartist, and they use it to make cheap potshots at Rose (or, well, any companion, really, but it happens to Rose so much more). It almost always puts her in the absolute worst light possible and makes me think just a little less of them, especially if it winds up getting in the way of solid storytelling just so they can point out how much they hate her.
That's a problem I used to have with The Ten Doctors, because the artist really didn't like Rose and used Ace as his mouthpiece for such. But whether or not he doesn't like her, he's gone and written her and Ace as getting along and blowing up Cybermen together, so I'm pleased.

174. It's a repeat, but it's Tom Waits, and who doesn't love that man?
And yes, he is sexy.

175. Lol. I'd hit it if it were Paul Bettany's.

177. Fantastic secret is fantastic!

178. I'm kind of inclined to agree, even though I don't know much about the Question. But then, I don't really like the whole "the new insert-hero-here" thing DC seems to like doing. Just make a new hero.

179. Lol. Troll is funny troll. But kinda weak.

189. I kind of hated her character-wise, but yeah. I can't really ship anyone with Bruce--he's too messed up. Well, I can do Catwoman, but that comes back to growing up on TAS.

192. Lol. See, 179, this is much better executed.

193. Well, I seriously doubt that the Comedian was the first character to sport a Chelsea grin. I don't think too many people will make that leap, but maybe I have too much faith in the movie-going populace.

129

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
This is exactly how I feel about the situation. Also, the Doctor choosing Rose romantically had no relation to how awesome Martha is. I think the show has pretty much proven she's amazing and has continually treated her as such - and will continue to do, as she gets to be on Torchwood still. We'll probably never see Rose again, on the other hand. And what about Mickey? He's black. And he's DEFINITELY experienced a huge amount of growth to the point where he's undeniably a brilliant character. This kind of opinion makes me really angry because it's reading way too much into nothing. There are things in life (and probably on Doctor Who, over the years) that are legitimately racist/stereotypical, but this is not one of them. By getting up in arms over a lesser issue, the true ones don't mean as much and get ignored.
