I don't get it.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no. Part of the appeal of mpreg for me is precisely because it's a man in that position. It loses literally all the appeal when it's a woman. Kind of like how I can't stand het that involves dominant!man/submissive!woman, I vastly prefer dominant!woman/submissive!man.

It's also not "internalized misogyny" that I'm horrified at the prospect of becoming pregnant.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I get why it wouldn't appeal if it was a woman in that position, but why does it appeal when it's a man? (not OP just curious)

I'm not a fan of mpreg and prefer het, but even I know that's not how it works. They're clearly enjoying the subversion of gender roles, among a myriad of other reasons that aren't muh misogyny.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I'm not saying *everyone* who writes mpreg routinely demonises canon female characters, while sticking with a weepy, OOC uke and rolling around in plots like miscarriage, or the joys of triplets, or going into intense detail of the blossoming, lush pregnancy-bod.

But they're by far the most common in my fandom.

I keep wondering where the skirt-phobia came from.

mpreg is a lot of things for me. Subversion of gender roles (I've had to write all my own het mpreg fic since most of what's out there is slash) and sometimes a whump/sadist thing (to work out the horror aspects of pregnancy for me, because I never, ever, ever want to be pregnant) and further still, it's a place to work out gender identity stuff through trans mpreg.

So, you know, maybe don't judge.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so fucking tired of women having to explain their fetishes/kinks or have them be chalked up to internalized misogyny. Men can be into feet, barely legal, MILF, lesbian, lactation, incest, etc. and nobody demands that they explain themselves or go full armchair psychologist over their kinks.

It's always women having to justify why they're hot for something.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
On the one hand, I agree. On the other hand, while I don't agree with asking individual women to explain their kinds, I think that sexism plays a role in what kinks are more popular among women vs. men. I'd look at both women and men because it has a role in both. But it does have a role.

I don't think anyone needs to explain anything but I do think it's like... interesting. It's an interesting topic to me.

And, tbh, the explanation for the fetishes commonly associated with men are either obvious or depressing as hell or both. Mpreg is interesting specifically because it's outside of the sort of well-worn territory of standard masculine pornographic tropes.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
What I don't get is why a lot of m-preg fetishists are so especially persistent when it comes to gushing about their kink at every turn (in fandom). From what I've seen, they're right up there with dd/lg fetishists with bringing their fetish up in every conversation.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
My guess would be they're really excited about their kink.

Nah, het preg plays entirely too neatly into standard gender roles. Like, you could almost say that if a het-based story goes on long enough, the woman will get pregnant. It almost feels inevitable with most het fiction - a foregone conclusion that of course she'll get pregnant eventually. Which turns me right off, to the point of being a squick for me.

Mpreg, on the other hand, subverts those gender roles. It can definitely still be squicky to me, depending on how it's handled, but it's not a turn-off by default, because "Yooo, I'm knocked up," isn't treated like a default occurrence in male characters' stories, nor, more importantly, in actual men's lives.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-01 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
So you'd also be squicked by m-preg in omegaverse fic? Because in those it's even more likely for characters to get pregnant eventually, much more so than in het stories.

Makes sense to me. I don't mind women being pregnant in stories; in fact I wrote a fanfic that was about a canon female character getting pregnant and having a baby. (Which was not horrible but also was not fun, painless or easy either) and still I can completely understand the appeal of mpreg. Maybe the weepiness is being suggested in the story as a symptom of pregnancy hormones?

I find it telling that so many in the comments seems to feel that the best way of humiliating a man is by making him behave like a woman.

MPreg seems to be the product of so many toxic memes related to sex and gender. Like despite the progress the LGBT movement has made, some people still can’t fathom the idea of two guys in love. It seems people cannot picture the idea of a couple, Gay or Straight, being equal partners, where the two people love and care for each other, without one of them playing the Super-Studly Brave Man of the House, while his partner has to exemplify all the worst female stereotypes, being all weepy and whiny, constantly needing to be rescued by the Super-Stud partner.

The fact that so few fanfics have a Gay couple do something like, say, adopt or have a child via a surrogate mother, also feels reflective of another toxic meme: adopted children don’t qualify as real kids. Unless one parent donated the necessary semen and the other gestated the baby, they don’t qualify as real parents, regardless of how much of a formative influence they had on their child.

Or just maybe, as a woman, I like reading about fantasy worlds where women don't automatically have to do the most dangerous, draining, extremely painful, and unpleasant part of reproduction?

I'm a trans man, and I'm not sure if my opinion could be considered related, but I'm throwing it out there, anyways.

I like mpreg. It makes me feel more validated as a man who has the ability to get pregnant. Because of mpreg, honestly, the idea of being pregnant (although not something I want) isn't as shocking or dysphoric to me.

That said, while I do have preferences sometimes for who in a pairing is pregnant, I would love to see the other character pregnant, as well.
