112. Unfortunately, Genevieve is in a hard place. She doesn't play Ruby the same way Katie Cassidy did, and it's hurting her though it's not her fault. Her acting is fine, but the character now seems completely boring and powerless, no snark and no attitude whatsoever. Ruby's become an afterthought, and Genevieve can't escape the writing. Plus, if you're basing fan opinion on what you read at IMDB boards, that's probably the bigger issue.

Most of the people I know who like and enjoy Supernatural aren't there for the Wincest [just another annoying part of SPN fandom, everyone ELSE assumes that we're ALL HERE for the brother on brother sex. Seriously, WE'RE NOT]. Are you looking in the right places? 'Cause you're far from being the only one.

I never got over Owen, the Space Rapist, and it took me a while to accept that Chuck Bass’s actions in the pilot for Gossip Girl must have been retconned, or else the episode with Dan hanging out with Chuck makes no effing sense. Therefore I can happily enjoy Chuck Bass as the scheming creep he is, but note to writers: If you intend to use characters as anti-heroes, or are considering the possibility that they might evolve into such, laying off the rape would be a good idea. I want to be able to like your characters, and that’s hard when they are hanging around unrepentant molesters, or are one themselves. If you want to show a character as being a jerkass, have him smoke or some other cliché. Yeesh.

152. If it’s any consolation, for the most part I think Gossip Girl is really cleverly written, and if it were aimed at an adult audience, it probably would get more credit for this fact. It’s less about gossip (which it shows to be shallow), and more about what it means to construct oneself entirely in the eyes of others. Even its relationships and friendships are less about OTPs, but power games.

Also, hotness. Gossip Girl’s also really into hotness.

Kay, I don’t consider myself a shipper at all and I wish Ginny and Harry all the happiness in the fictional world (which doesn’t exist), but… I thought he would end up with Luna when she was first introduced, too. And was actually disappointed when he didn’t! And a bit disturbed with said disappointment…

Fortunately I wasn’t reading the Harry Potter for shipping reasons, so it didn’t really affect how much I liked the books.

166. Sokka’s a PIMP, you mean. A pimp dork. (Actually, that seems to be the case with his sister too, since she can be believably shipped with every guy in the series. Maybe they get it from Hakoda? Sokka and Katara: Got Game).

Er, clichés are often used as cues for an audience of a character a pilot has to describe either visually or through dialog, and they only have about three minutes to do it before it's on to the next character. For some reason, smoking is one of those cues, even though it in no way reflects reality.

Basically, I'm not trying to call smokers jerkasses. If I did that, I would really suck.

107.) I couldn't help but read into it as they think this particular pairing is wrong. But on a serious note: religion is way too uptight. I know, I used to be "involved," so to speak, and I hid away my then slowly blooming slash obsession. Don't feel bad for loving it; really, who has a right to judge you over such a silly matter, as if you've murdered someone jeez.

142. I'm pretty sure that's what the Secret Maker was referring to. It was too similar to date rape for a lot of fans, and I remember it really made me WTF, and I had a very hard time caring about the character after that. Which probably wasn't the writers' intentions!

141. Tarzan is a great movie. Sadly underappreciated. And yeah, Disney Tarzan is a pretty gattractive piece of work.

143. Eyeshield 21 is AMAZING. It's exactly like you say, it's one of the most gripping, emotional stories I've read in years. And although I've never actually found myself cheering for the other team, there have been times when I didn't know which team to cheer for, because I didn't want either one to lose. The Ojou and Bando matches, in particular.

Replace "films" with "television series" and you've got yourself a deal. He's descended into boring wankery a few times, like Inland Empire and Dune, but you've got one perfect specimen in the twenty-odd episodes of Twin Peaks. And despite my reticence about a couple of his movies, he always makes interesting work, and I think the man himself is fascinating.

I'm hosting a David Lynch night as one of my Halloween movie marathons. Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, and then Nadja as a tangential offshoot makes for a hell of a creepy night.
