129. I started with the new series, and I totally agree. Personally, I believe that if you think there's any one person that the Doctor OMG BELONGS with, you're watching the show wrong. That's not to say I don't ship him with anyone ever, I just don't fight for my ships involving him tooth and nail, because there's just too much canon that says otherwise. The Doctor in an OTP isn't canon, folks. But I can still appreciate him in relationships.

164. Rowling was really bad about the whole "show, don't tell" thing sometimes. The whole way she dealt with the Snape/Lily/James thing was especially bad, imo. She doesn't SHOW us how the things Snape were doing to other students was bad (and worse than what James and Sirius did on a regular basis), we're just supposed to accept it is because it's "Dark Magic"--whatever the crap that means. Eddings is certainly smy Be All and End All of fantasy, but that's probably because they were my first adult fantasy books, and the last thing my mom and I read together before I grew out of it. But the series isn't perfect, and I agree that it's weird to get snooty over which books hold the most influence over you.
