I wasn't expecting him to sacrifice himself - they were both fucked up in pretty much every iteration. I was just *so so so* glad they finally pulled their heads out and actually *stopped doing the stupid cycle*, stopped with the ridiculous 'it must happen because it happened because it must happen again'.

HOMG, i was so fucking frustrated with so much of season three!

But also really, really pleased by the ending and the eventual reality 'check' that happened. (And that final moment with Adam and Eva, leaning together, waiting....)

I disagree! I mean, I don't love the book, but most of its flaws are pretty typical for the era in my opinion. It's a goofy American counterculture picaresque. It has the flaws of that genre and that genre was a big thing in the 1960s. I think if you like that kind of thing, it's a fine example of its genre. And I don't think it's a genre that should be written off entirely, even though it would be easy to do so and even though the cultural reputation of other examples of the genre, like On The Road or like Bukowski's work, make it an appealing choice.

Lol these books, the first 3 are good but the last 3 are a dumpster fire and Jean Auel had clearly stopped giving a fuck midway thru volume 4. I can't imagine the wank over this as a series, tho, there's so much that would be considered ~problematic~ content in these, like get ALL the popcorn ready, lol!
