I never shipped these two, but your secret made me lol, OP. It's not the same situation, but I felt a similar glee when Naruto/Hinata became canon and so many people were pissed that he didn't end up with Sakura (or Sasuke).

I'm sorry that people gave you shit for shipping fictional characters. That said, if Sesshomaru did indeed have romantic interest driving his actions towards a pre-pubescent Rin, that absolutely does make him a sexual predator grooming a child. The creators shipping it doesn't change that. That said, I'm happy for you that your ship was canonized.

Not in the fandom, but I had an LJ friend who predicted this to a "t" based on her knowledge of Japanese culture and the themes and symbolism in the story. I bet she's pleased as punch, too, because of all who doubted her.

Whoever called you a pedo for shipping that is a dumbass and I kind of understand your feeling of catharsis. That doesn't mean I don't find the relationship very disturbing and that I feel my favourite character in Inuyasha is pretty much ruined. I wasn't planning to watch the sequel anyway, but I also wish I hadn't known this.

Sessoumaru pulling a Hikaru Genji isn't exactly a shock... but it is, IMO, pretty gross. Western anime fans have had this problem with Japanese writers before, and normally I try to stay out of arguments about cultural norms, but seriously:

I've considered it canon since knowing about the drama CD proposal but it really is funny how parts of the western fandom is only now tearing itself apart trying to come up with excuses for how they're not canon, yet.

Half human kids? It could be anyone! (Really? You think that Sesshomaru is gonna have kids with just any human now?) Drama CD? Clearly not canon! (To the western fandom which has not had access to it, I guess.) Dudes gifting clothing means showing your interest in Japanese tradition? Clearly unintentional! (...Ok then.)

I'm not really that interested in the series beyond some childhood nostalgia of seeing it while having dinner with my family, but it gets kinda silly. Also one side is supposedly immortal so what now, lol.

It just seemed willfully ignored by a lot of fans that they were likely a couple, or were going to be in the future. I was in my early teens when I first watched the show and even though I didn't ship them, or much of anybody else for that matter, it was pretty overt in my eyes that they were romantically involved narratively. It baffles me that so many people feel blindsided by it being canonized.

I'm seeing a lot of anger and disappointment over this which is valid and I sympathise with people who hate this decision.

That being said, I was under the impression that the writing has been on the wall since the drama CD???

I think that some people fooled themselves into believing that it was a bad translation/vague and therefore not canon.

It's canon. It's happening. Nothing will change that.

You can however choose how you interact with the fandom and story from now on.

This spinoff doesn't have to be your canon. You can just pretend it doesn't exist like the Potter fandom does with Cursed Child and the book 7 epilogue You still have the entirety of the Manga/Anime that is completely unblemished by this.

Didn't even know there was a drama CD. And I sadly never saw/read the ending - I skimmed it/read summary, but yeah. I just hope Kagome & Inuyasha aren't dead. Same for Sesshoumaru and Rin, for that matter, since they seem so heavily focused on the children in the sequel.

I love your secret. I have been shipping Sessh/Adult!Rin since I got into Inuyasha almost 20 years ago. I always got hate for shipping them, even before the manga ended. I used to even be part of a locked forum for them called Moonlight Flower. This sequel has been a huge relief to me that I am not in fact crazy. The sequel could still suck though. But I'm happy you're happy.

OP, I do not know if you will see this, but it is I, the anon who made the Sesshomaru secret a month or two ago.


1. YAY! A Sesshomaru secret!!!
2. I am crestfallen and heartbroken, that his wife and mother of his children is not a fictional representation of me, or at least the self insert I created for drawer fic no one will ever see lol
3. I had heard about the children a month or so ago, and wondered, who could it be?

I never shipped anyone with Sesshomaru (no one but me, of course), but when I did get into the fandom, I went ahead with Kagome, mostly because I was done with the way Inuyasha treated her, and Koga was always going to be a side piece, Besides, I liked that they would probably hate each other at first, eventually grow, begrudgingly respect each other(enemies to lovers is a favorite trope of mine). However, once or twice, I did dip into the aged up Rin/Sesshomaru fic. I tended to like the ones where she was away for a while, and the feelings she had for him continued to grow, and she wanted him in her life (the one I remember most was she was training as assassin to work in his castle? idk but her identity was hidden, he hadn't see her in 10+ years -- which we know wouldn't happen, but w/e), and that one time their relationship was a plot point for a Sess/Kag fic in which he was directionless and dead inside because he hadn't been able to save her (at this point, she had been grown, living in his castle, beloved by many, not all, and basically he was at her whims, but she had few, as she loved him etc. it was actually very well done, convinced me of [a] relationship, however, I was a bit left in the grey, as the type of relationship was never explicitly stated but it was clear he loved her).

All this to say, congrats to you OP. I'll stay mad it wasn't my OC/fictional stand in. But I agree that it would be hard to imagine who else he would have courted. She'd have to be...incredibly particular. And manage to move something inside him. I just didn't want it to be Rin, because in my mind he was like a disaffected older brother/father figure to her (in the very least her guardian), but then I read the CD transcripts someone posted above...so...it seems pretty clear.

If you have any good recs for [haven't seen the human for a long time]Sess/Rin [aged up], I'll gladly take them!

Also, I always thought Rin was like..7 or 9...and in a pair the spares situation, I always sent her off with Kohaku (if he was alive/not possessed) or Shippo.

Are all the pearl-clutchers in here also in that new group of people who hate action and superhero movies because buildings in the background get blown up when the heroes fight, and at least some of those buildings must have had people inside them, so those movies and the people who watch them are complicit supporters of mass destruction of property and manslaughter?

Or is the made-up fantasy story only bad if it has something vaguely to do with sex?

I think it's creepy as hell. I think pretending there is nothing creepy about this is very weird and out-of-touch. I think it sucks that it's canon and I majorly side-eye the author for it (especially considering the track record of another mangaka who just really liked to pair up minors with adults/parental figures). I think it's perfectly okay to ship it and antis suck but I personally wouldn't want anything to do with this fandom after this became canon.

Where the fuck did these two get confirmed? Last I saw on this, it was stated that the mother of Sesshoumaru's children were UNKNOWN. Even by the story's own description.
