Zaheer might have the most interesting story, but to me Azula was the best villain. She was the most charismatic, the one I most wanted to watch on the screen. And while Korra is good, I don't thin it ever exceeds ATLA. I'll agree that Korra's own arc sometimes exceeds Aang's, though not quite to the extent the secret says. But all the other characters on ATLA are much better than all the other characters on Korra. And I think Aang at the end is better than Korra at the end.

For me, it's less that we're biased when we know the show, and more that we're stupid when we don't know the show. When we know the show, we have some idea of the specifics of what's going on. When we don't know the show, we have a tendency to interpret the secret as positively as possible and hone in on any possible interpretation of the secret that we might agree with, and not consider any different ways the secret might be phrased, or the different things that it could apply to. We think about the one time that something similar happened to us and it annoyed us, and we assume that the secret is about that exact thing.

And like. I'm sure it's more emotionally satisfying to just have people agree with you but I do think that people disagreeing with your opinion is kind of part of having an opinion. And there again, I'm sure this kind of reply isn't what you wanted but it is the way that I personally feel about it.

Ugh I'm still so mad at how this went down... I know it was due to the actress wanting to leave but man, I loved Samar and was not ready for her to go like that! Also how they kind of backtracked on Levi's characterisation as well. Ugh, I was not a fan of these episodes!

There is a fairly well-written fix-it that's been written (lengthy and complete, with characterisation pretty much spot on) on AO3 if you haven't already read it.

It's really not all that hypocritical. There's a difference between actions taken in life-or-death situations, as when attacked by mooks, and a premeditated plan of attack that HAS to end a war by taking out one specific person.

With Zhao, arguably the ocean spirit had more to do with that than Aang; I always saw it as a possession sort of thing, and at any rate, his season 1 Avatar State was always pretty uncontrollable, so I wouldn't say it's accurate to lay Zhao's death at Aang's feet. Additionally, given Aang's general fighting style and outlook, it's safe to say he likely at least TRIES for nonlethal in most combat situations, though obviously YMMV on that and we don't see the aftermath.

Either way, though, that's still different than knowing that you have to do something and planning in advance to permanently stop one single person. Killing Ozai was the assumed plan, and the ONLY way to stop the war. All of his past lives agreed. All of his friends and allies agreed. Aang refusing and finding another path was a kindness to himself, a way to honor his lost people, and an end to a century of violence, not hypocrisy.

I mean, if they are the same person they clearly did it to try and win some of their old followers to their new persona.

If they aren't the same person author B probably wanted author A's attention. Or they didn't want to seem like they were ripping someone off.

Tbh it sounds like the essay was saying "bisexuals cheat" and you picked up on that and and said "no they don't, she's faithful to her boyfriend" and that's normal and shows you have standards (?)

because HP fandom kept getting in a weird moral high horse about how woke it was and teaching people about morality with its shallow black and white thinking so it’s embarrassing when the creator turns out to be a transphobe.

No one was checking for FOP/DP to teach them some morals nor did it’s fandom ever reach that level of annoyance.

I kind of understand. I often wish suffering on terrible people in fiction, and though I don't think I've ever wished rape on a character, I don't think that's somehow worse than wishing torture or death on someone.
