110 - Fandom wankery aside, I agree with this. I'm a bit of a history buff, and it just made sense to me. I agree with diversity for everyone else, but come on. Let's some whities in there. I don't care what anyone says Jet is like latino or something.

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised that you're a history buff and "tiny island nation that industrializes before its neighbors and conquers them using sea power and technology" doesn't scream Japan to you.

101. *hugs*

108. I knew my mom probably had a thing for girls when she said something about how hot of a woman Patrick Swayze was. (My mom was Swayze-crazy back in the days before Backstreet and N’Sync.)

110. That’s actually a cool theory.

118. *hugs* There’s really nothing wrong with being bisexual. Or you can get off ONLY to fictional women, and not real ones.

128. You, ma’am, are LUCKY. Pure and simple.

135. So Bond/Le Chiffre in Casino Royale did nothing for you?

142. Sadly, I think it would be the latter. I write fic to scare the everlasting fuck out of people, and they tell me how hot it is.

151. …You don’t think she herself is a nutter?

148

[identity profile] capsulecorp-tm.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)

I really want to know at what point it became bad writing to actually use a character's NAME.

(lemme tell ya, it's ten times worse seeing it in RP semi-prose. God, it's disgusting. I can't talk to people who do that...)

Name, pronoun, title, and "other," waaaaay before hair color, people. And if you use more than one epithet per paragraph...I judge you. Hard.

also, 138 (I need more attention span)

127. Uh, I didn't know people shipped anything else in that fandom.

130. Nicole Wallace!! I don't like her but she would probably fit your fetish.

150. ... what?

156. She actually said that was her reasoning? WTF.

157. Typo is a verb now?

109. ... What game's he from?

110. Huh. I always thought they were meant to "represent" the Japanese, what with all the militarism in their nation's history when they weren't isolating themselves.

116. ... You actually made your Sue go crazy and alone? Wow... is it really a Sue if that happens?

121. There is that, yes. But to me, the losses (all the fans eating it up) seem to outweigh the good(the parodies).

126. While I did not ship it, I must say this: that duck's swimring freaked me out when I was a kid. I was always thinking "Doesn't ANYONE see the face on the ring? Doesn't anyone else notice it makes the same faces he does?!" IT was scary.

128. Most likely they are disliked because they are considered the norm, and those outside the norm make up the majority of fandom. Hence, we will see a lot of rage against the norm. It's how I think of it... making things as mechanical and clinical as possible often helps me cope with irrational behavior.

129. Actor's name here? Because if that is an eighteen year old dude, he got some serious babyface going on there.

131. I adore this secret, because I adore the description of that attitude. It is somehow blatantly against the spirit of the canon but it is so in such a glib and selfaware way I just can't bring myself to hate on it. Although like you say, they sure should be more aware of how totally uncool and un-PC it is to give him a christmas-tree sweater, fo' real >:(

136. The answer, my friend... is pride. Goroh just has too much of it. He feels he needs to always be Mr Cool, Mr Big Guy, the guy who everyone else bows to and submits to. Oh, he may want Captain Falcon, but he could only allow himself to admit that if the cap somehow admitted he was inferior to Goroh, and... it's CAPTAIN FALCON we're talking about here! The man was not born from human conception, but hewn out of a block of pure win!

Basically, unless Goroh ever somehow finds it in him to swallow his pride and realize that it's okay to be the uke sometimes, he ain't ever gonna get to experience the Falcon-DICK! Truly a sad, sad lovestory if I ever saw one.

Continuation comment. 141, 146, 151, 152, 158, t!b 1

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
141. I'm gonna say what someone else said, probably a little less articulate: what if it is knowing Xion that makes Roxas and Axel into what they become? Because to me, it sure looks like they're about to make her the catalyst for 8'n13's buttbuddy/dysfunctional love/epic love of storming seas and splitting mountains/perfectly platonic but just very deep friendship/WHATEVER IT IS YOU WANT TO READ INTO THEM relationship. Is it really that bad that a third party helped create that? Does it really detract from a, let's go with love because that's what most people see, if it starts because a common friend brought them together and made them realize, hey, there's something about this other person? Is it?

Personally though, that isn't my primary concern. In fact, my primary concern isn't even that they will forego the opportunity to make something interesting out of this story OR it's characters, and just go with what the majority of the fanbase has decided is the "proper" way the Nobody's should be like. It isn't even that they will end up making Xion some superspecial sparkling princess type which we already have a glut off and have been done to death already, instead of, say, a regular girl with strengths, weaknesses, vulnerable moments and shining moments and an actually thought out character that ends up being likeable, and therefore all the more terrible to lose in the end.

It is that they have not had my flash of inspired brilliance, and neglect making Mickey Mouse into the Obligatory Supertough Secret Boss.

Seriously, think about it! Come endgame Roxas is on the urn, trusting noone and lashing out at those around him, when if he goes out of his way to explore someplace he comes across Mickey, trying to understand who this strange young man who looks like Sora could be. Roxas, in his emotional turmoil lashes out and decides that if he can beat Mickey he is surely strong enough to overcome any obstacles, and the two get down in a truly ultimate showdown of epic destiny... don't tell me that wouldn't be totally freaking awesome, because I wouldn't believe you.

146. ... Hearing Skinner say that in my mind shouldn't be as funny as it is... and still, it really IS funny.

151. What is this comic? It looks cute enough to like, but if things are as crazy as you say, maybe I should spare myself the heartache...

152. You and a loootta others. I wonder if the Nazi's used dark magic to make uniforms that stylish. Also, neat Dante fanart, despite the whole... unmotivated nazi-thing. Seriously, why Dante as a nazi?

158. In that case, what I want to know is why, if they all did indeed do terrible things, is Cao Cao the warlord you fell for? What makes him stand out to you?

t!b 1. Oh so agreed. I adore the first Max Payne, silly moments and all, and that there isn't a larger fanbase for this wonderful, actionfilled yet emotional and perfectly noir game makes me shed a single tear... because to shed any more would be a waste. No amount of tears could ever was hthe scum of these streets...

152. As do I, love, as do I. Not just Nazis, uniformed men in general, though I do think the Krauts (sorry if that's not politically correct or anything, I just love that word) have the best uniforms ever. Also, that image? Seriously? I have no idea who that is and I nearly fainted.

I'm afraid of the same thing. My friends think I've read it and I haven't, so now it's too close to movie time for me to simply... ask to borrow it. DX I just plan on turning on my noise sensors when I go; whenever everybody else oohs and aahs, I will too. 8U

So agreed! Epithets are horrible and I don't know how any writer can think otherwise. I would rather repeat the character's name over and over, although I am always afraid of sounding like the Rick/Ridge scenes from The Bold and The Beautiful:
