111 - Well, yeah, there is a lot of crap on ffnet but I don't think it needs REDEEMING or anything so dramatic. I don't see why you feel the need to advertise that you're putting something good out there. Plenty of people do. If you want to help, start setting an example by writing polite and constructive reviews.

P.S. Quite a bit of it is terrible, but many terrible fics are actually kind of cute. If you think about it, there are a lot of younger writers toodling around on fanfic's training wheels. So if someone wants to write wish-fulfillment about a Sue with rainbow sparkly hair, I say more power to them.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Fanfic training wheels. I love it!

113.

Um. Hi. Canadian here. Milk here comes in cartons or bottles. Plz to be not believing something you read in a fanfic as UTTER TRUTH, even if some cities may use bagged milk. (I myself have never seen it.)

Besides. XD Not liking Canada because of bagged milk, not even b/c of shitty government or whatever? Duuuude.

147

(Anonymous) 2009-01-13 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
WTF. Get over yourself. Since when is it wrong for people to make money off SOMETHING THEY MAKE? I believe that is what "industry" is all about. Now...taking someone's art, not crediting, and trying to become a BNF icon-maker or whatnot by spamming comms...isn't that just riding on the artists' coattails?

Please stop your gross sense of entitlement...and you wonder why artists hate people like you.

Re: 147

(Anonymous) 2009-01-13 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
excellent! by your reasoning I can take my fanfiction and start selling it!

113. CANADIAN IN ME WANTS TO WANK AT YOU.
But I won't, and I kinda lol'd.
At least in Western Canada we don't have bagged milk? We just have cartons as well? *Was not aware that Ottawa had bagged milk until a year ago*

155

[identity profile] miribai.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
155. Oh this secret will not end well at all. Cue raging Israelis and Palestinians and their respective supporters. Come on OP think before you wank.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
110. Bleh. It's only unoriginal because he's good enough for a lot of people to like him.

113. You're from [livejournal.com profile] sf_drama, aren't you?

138. ...well, that explains a lot.

154. The two aren't mutually exclusive--she could have shown up at the Brethren Court or something.

I wish.

We'll always have fanfic ...

[identity profile] virgofolkie.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Back when I was in high school, c. 1980 or so, our school's cafeteria started serving milk in these plastic bags that you had to poke straws through. It was supposed to mimic the food packs astronauts used, or something. Needless to say, whole batches of them succumbed to lunchroom food-fights. I don't think they lasted too long, as I recall...

102, 111, 145, 156, 163, 168, 181, 182, 183

[identity profile] cyanfox27.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
102. Um...go you? I've never shipped anything on sight myself and find it silly, but...more power to you, I guess.

111. Hear, hear! I doubt that you'll gain THE POWER TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE INTERNET by your actions as you seem to think, but I do hate the idea that one must avoid FF.net entirely if one is a good writer. That's only contributing to the lack of goodfic there. Go for it!

145. Tom Cruise is the reason I'm avoiding that movie. It isn't because of the politics or his jerkass nature, it's because my drama teacher went off on a tiff about how he couldn't really act and just played 'Tom Cruise' in every single movie he was in, and I can't take him seriously anymore...because I kind of see her point.

156. I used to do this until seven months ago. I also lied about my gender, because I was massively insecure about being female, particularly since I'm in several male-dominated fandoms. I grew out of it, which is good, because my alter-ego had built up a really bad reputation as a passive-aggressive know-it-all, and I could start from the ground up. I just wish I had never lied in the first place. I can't say I support your hypocrisy though, because my experience has made me wary of things like that, and I've met some people younger than me who were absolutely brilliant.

163. Yay, my childhood movie! *Happy dance*

I remember "Worthless" scaring me as a young kid, and becoming convinced that all the household appliances (plus our family van, who I named Moonlight) were sentient and had feelings. Still, the only really traumatic BLT-related traumatic memory I have is when my dad swatted me for spending the entire kindergarten period refusing to answer to anything but "Lampy". Then again, considering he warned me repeatedly not to beforehand, you could say I was asking for that one.

And...gah! I'm listening to an MP3 of "Worthless" right now... Sorry it still traumatizes you, OP. :(

168. Not in your fandom, but I feel that way about several characters in my own fandoms.

181. I'd say 'agreed', but I've been a semi-regular as of late, and 'these people' probably includes yours truly for all I know...(and I'm an arrogant bastard for that, aren't I?)

182. Word. Just...word.

183. This is basically why I no longer watch it myself. I loved in in its earlier seasons, but it just doesn't interest me anymore. Sigh.

111

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Was that RGU reference intentional? Because it just about made me fall out of my chair.

(I sort of want to play "If the Pit is Ohtori, then that makes..." but it's too late at night and I'm not coming up with anything.)

117. I think he's awesome all-around, and he does do good clothing designs, but I hope that what he designs are his own decisions. I could be wrong, but... the other day I bought his artbook and a lot of the comments he made are "the watch so-and-so is wearing is from this, this was inspired by this" and editors wanted this and editors wanted that. The poor guy barely gets to make his own decisions. His compositions are planned by other people, some of his illustrations are planned by other people, the editors ask for different things (some that he's not even excited about).. so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stuff he designs is planned or suggested by other people as well. I kind of feel sorry for him, and I hope he's able to get more freedom with his work than he lets on through what I've been reading. Like I said, I could be entirely wrong. D:

Regardless, go Kubo!

[identity profile] junkmail.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
113. ... I never thought of it as being that weird? Uh. Germany has weirder containers for the milk, if you ask me. It's not like we don't still have it in cartons in Canada, either.

140. You realize by sounding angry or spiteful, you're making the fandom you're defending sound kinda butthurt and immature about all the F!S wank, right? I'm a Hetalia fan myself, so no offense, but. It's not helping.

155. I call troll.

113

[identity profile] caesaria.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
What's weird about Germany's containers for milk? I's like to think our containers are pretty normal *lol* (by the way, you can even buy bagged milk in Germany. It's not in any way a mass product, but it exists^^)

What is the film? It's a bit silly to complain about how it won't get a wide release and not even mention the name of it to possibly generate interest here.

Sita Sings the Blues, and it does seem to be getting a very limited release. Just film festivals from what I can tell.

107. These stupid 'where's the pr0n' and 'where's the fandom' secrets are starting to annoy me. They are not secrets, they are anons begging for someone else to do the work for them. Go beg in an appropriate community, please!

111. Hell yes! I still slog through the Pit on a regular basis, and my very infrequent fics go up on that site. It is totally possible to find good fic here. It's just really, really hard. The Pit could be such a great resource if more decent writers used it.

113. I'm so glad you added the small print at the bottom yourself, because I would have otherwise.

122. Thanks to my best friend from middle school, I adore this movie.

126. What is with the Xena secrets lately? Are you the same anon that posted the Callisto ship secret yesterday? Because I feel like you are.

154. I never understood why she was so fucking popular to begin with. She was barely a character in the first one! Plus, her voice annoyed me.

180. I am not a huge fan of Lyra/Will as the fans would like it (I sort of like the bittersweet ending their almost relationship had), and I totally think that this would be way more interesting than Lyra/Will. Even if it would also be kinda creepy.

183. You loved it AS A KID? You just made me feel hella old.

NotSecret!2. Uh, yeah. Emily rocks, in spite of Hot Topic.

TooBig!3. May I have your internet babies? Because I love you a little for this secret.

Template. The rules are... you're a douchebag? Ok, that's cool. I have a rule that I don't have any respect for douchebags though.

Four Eleven secrets today. We've only got 10 Eleven secrets so far. Come on, crazy Who fans! You're letting me down!

Dude, chill.

You can't generalize slashers any more than you can generalize het writers or gen writers. Go to any category and you're going to find some assholes. Fandomsecrets is damn good proof of that.

Besides, it's not like all people who slash *only* slash, or all people who het *only* het. If you generalize, you're doing the same thing that's pissing you off.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-13 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Same, on both counts. Though I didn't realize the latter part until I entered a fandom where most people are signficantly younger than me, but uh...yeah. It's something I should work on.
