111. It cannot be done. FFN can never be redeemed, and it's not just because of the low quality of the writing, it's because of the low quality of readers. There are plenty of good stories there for so many fandoms, but they get almost no reviews, while shitty WIP stories that haven't been updated in three centuries, get eight million "OMG MOAR PLZ!!!111ELEVENTY" reviews.

Maybe there's something in what you're saying (about the rape thing, or hardcore bashers), but I don't know why someone can't loathe a main character and still watch a show all the way through. Miaka never really sat well with me either, mainly because I prefered the villains and the supporting characters to her. I don't why that can't be true for any fandom either.

I imagine that if you truly loathe the main character -the person whom the stories are about, who is going to be in almost all -if not all- of the episodes, etc.- then you would get fed up and stop watching. With all the characters in FY, yes, it's totally possible to find the villains and supporting cast more intriguing, but a character "not sitting well" is a lot different from the rage!hate!burn! that Miaka seems to have gotten from a huge chunk of the fandom. And what the OP described -people saying she deserved to be raped or whatnot- happens (ed?) a lot, and it kind of hurts-- because as a Miaka fan, it opens me (and the OP) up to personal bashing ourselves, and it's like "What did we do to deserve this other than appreciate the main character? She's not perfect, but nobody is!"

#145: I can only ever see Tom Cruise in any film he's in. As if his Tom Cruiseness overwhelms any character he's trying to play. OHI IM TOMCRUISE AND I'M IN THIS MOVIE. It's not that it's the recent scandals or anything, it's just that it's TOM CRUISE, THE FAMOUS ACTOR. He can no longer disappear into his roles for me. Oh well.
