104. Anderson Cooper doesn't like girls.
105. lol okay.
106. Can't you like him without worrying that this might automatically make you an original fangirl instead?
112. I-he's fun to draw. Those scars, man. *A*
113. Bagged milk is cheaper, not to forget it takes up less space in your fridge.
115. So instead of making secrets about how you don't like Naruto, you counter-butthurt. Okay.
117.
155. Oh lord.
175. Ugh. Well, at least you're interested in the world around you now.

110 and 163

[identity profile] moosewizard.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
110. Eh, I feel the same way. I don't particularly find animated characters 'pretty' or attractive. I just love Edgeworth because he's such a dynamic and interesting character. One of the reasons I don't participate much in the Phoenix Wright fandom is that I also want to avoid being labeled something I am not.

163. I think the only lasting trauma The Brave Little Toaster have me was the Toaster's psychotic clown dream. Oh my god. That was some horrifyingly sick and twisted stuff. But I love this movie.

[identity profile] birdboy2000.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
111. Some of the most highly-praised fic out there is already archived there, so it's not like one more good author will make much of a difference. Some will read there, others will denounce the site and miss out. Though having tried the same thing, I appreciate the sentiment.

(What I'd really like to see organized is a goodfic raid. A bunch of authors with a solid grasp of spelling, grammar, characterization and storyline all uploading on the same day, either in one fandom or across it. And for one day, FFN will be like the good old days.)

[identity profile] birdboy2000.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Erm, that should be "across many." Fail at proofreading.

AGH HETALIA AGAIN

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
108. Wow, that looks so awesome!

113. You just wish you could be so cool as to have bagged milk. Canada is awesome. The country, not the character.

124. You and me both, baby.

155. You're disgusting. I hope you enjoy trivializing the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. Asshole.

HETALIA

[identity profile] lovedforaday.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the secrets proclaiming how not bothered they are by Hetalia hating when they obviously are.

Are you an artist? Because if you spent ten hours drawing something, then you'd probably want other folks to do you the courtesy of crediting you when they take that ten hours of work and make it into an icon. Because that's what it is, you know? A courtesy. Is there some problem with being polite?

I've never heard of someone asking people to donate money in exchange for the right to make icons...is that even what you're talking about? If you're just complaining about fanartists being financially compensated as a general principle, that's a whole other issue that has absolutely nothing to do with icon credits.

Not OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-13 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I am one and I occasionally see icons of my fanart.
It's flattering and encouraging, regardless if they've given credit or not...might be a personal thing, but I honestly don't care.

Re: 155

[identity profile] jkpolk.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, pretty much what I was going to say. Probably a troll, but come on, people are dying. Right now. Have some bloody perspective and learn to see past your fandom wants and needs.

This'll probably sound pretentious as hell, which I don't intend but I know some folks take things that way. The above is also why I have such a hard time with politics being a "fandom" and people shipping politicians and writing fic and such. It makes me uneasy for people to put up a fandom wall between themselves and the actual important things that are going on in the world. It feels like they're willfully desensitizing themselves from "srs bsns" and I honestly start to worry about the end result.

I am all for throwing yourself into entertainment fandom and the escapism or creativity or joy it can bring. But I feel like there has to be a boundary when it comes to things that actually affect us, our world, and the other humans in it.

113. HOMO MILK! (Sorry, couldn't resist)

123. I kinda agree. There have been so many times I've tried to think of a good secret to post, but there really isn't anything fandom-related I wouldn't publicly admit. My friends couldn't give a rats ass over any disagreements we'd have regarding fandom and I really don't give a shit what other people think.

168. Part of the problem I think is with people who've only seen the anime. The cut out the best Ogiue-centered storylines for the second season for some reason.

178. I've gotten first hand accounts of their laziness from a cousin who used to work for them, but I still probably own more TokyoPop titles than anything else if for no other reason then that TokyoPop licenses almost everything. I also pick up Gothic & Lolita Bible whenever a new one's out.

OP 168

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That definitely could have something to do with it, since that big missing chunk of Ogiue's past in the manga very easily explains why she acts the way she does.

She's such a flawed character, and I just can't stand to see people automatically label her as a bitch or stuck-up or anything overly negative. That's not the case, she's just... somewhat damaged goods. :(

[identity profile] anny-h.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
113. Huh. In Soviet Russia they also used bagged milk. Well, that was before I was born. And I guess it is pretty inconvinient, but.. it's not like people put it there themselves, it was just sold that way.. I mean, hating on the entire nation because of something like that.. wtf? o.O

130. I did that just recently for one of my new fandoms lol

138. Can you say the name of the model? I've never played the game, but he looks hot on picturesXD

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Fransisco Randez, it's easier finding renders of the characters themselves than the model unfortunately. :(

108. I know! D: It looks really interesting. (You heard about this on Roger Ebert's blog, right?)

129. Jeez, that sucks. :(

167. What series is this? I love the art.

177. I think it's because of the nostalgia factor -- some people continue to listen to bands they liked when they were younger just because it reminds them of when they were younger, regardless of how good the band is. I don't mean to offend, but IMHO, most prog-rock from the 70s is like that. :/

129 OP here

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't believe I'm actually getting sympathy :) I was expecting to be told to "cry moar" or something along those lines.

That said, yes, it sucks. There's nothing good to write that I haven't written, and even what I've written isn't spectacularly good, it's just that the bar is set so low that I clear it effortlessly. I've gotten more reviews for my fic in that fandom than anywhere else, but I know it's not because my writing skills have improved drastically, it's just that the people in that fandom pretty much have no other options.
