121. For my dad's 40th birthday, we threw him a SpongeBob party. All his friends (all adults) got him random SpongeBob presents. The car floor mats are still in his truck; the plate is still in the kitchen; we just took the ornament down from the tree. The talking one went bust a year or so ago, but everyone in the family is still known to randomly quote it sometimes ("Ooh! Ooh! I know! Mouth-full-of-clams day! Okay, uh. I don't know where you've been lately but the most dominant pairing in the fandom is Layton/Legal!Luke, so claiming that half of the fans are in it for the shota is right off.
Secondly, yes, there is a dynamic of it who are in it for the shota; but why the hell does that mean they can't, in other regards, appreciate it as a platonic pairing?
As a shipper of Layton/Legal, Luke/Flora and Layton/Claire (amongst five million other less serious ones; NAZOTP MOTHERFUCKERS)....I dunno. I can't understand the concept of ONLY shipping two characters in a romantic sense. It's much more fun to appreciate them as lovers, friends, mentor and student, a whole plethora of different ways.
Also, I don't really like shota much at all :3 and know a wide proportion of people in the fandom who don't...? In fact, I was more of the idea that shota fans were in the minority D: (which is why there've been a few guilty secrets of 'i ship it', probably.)

...Seriously, does the whole internet see Layton-fandom as a pedo fandom? Kink Fandom Meme aside, and not accounting for the Japanese fanartists, most of the active members seem more interested in genfic.
Eugh, fandom generalisation. Never a pleasant thing :(
I'm just annoyed because as an active member of the fandom I really don't understand this D:; sure, us non-shota fans let the shota fans get on with it, but...Honestly, I see more genfic and crack than anything else. And shipping LxL (or LxLe) doesn't necessitate you can't appreciate the adorable relationship they have in all of the games :/

Trust me, this doesn't need to be a secret. Everyone I know who counts the book series among their favorites (I do, definitely) is upset and outraged at the TV show. EVERYTHING in the show is so messed up and non-canonical. They took a few ideas from the series and went along a different path.

I might be able to understand that as the TV series is just "based on" the book series, but then I read that Terry Goodkind refused to sell the rights to make a TV series/film multiple times because he didn't think anyone could do it justice. But for some reason I have yet to comprehend, Goodkind sold the rights to Sam Raimi because he believed Raimi would be "true to the books". TRUE TO THE BOOKS MY ASS. That series is a disgrace to the books.

Last week's ep even had multiple confessors, who all wear white. WOW, way to take away one of the fundamental aspects of Kahlan's history.
