iCarly does make some references to Drake & Josh but nothing major. I know Sam has pictures of Drake in her locker and in the Christmas episode some of the boxes in the attic had Josh's name written on them but I think those are more of a in-joke type of thing and not meant to be taken oh-so-seriously.

God, thank you for saying this. I was surprised no one had said anything about this secret before now. It also seems really obvious to me that teaching countries as people is pretty much an invitation for students to create stereotypes, which human beings do well enough without help. The anthropologist in me is crying!

I never really see the point of wank or any real constructive reason for it other than for someone to try to gain some attention (and to provide lulz, which I will never get tired of). As you mentioned, someone who loves a certain ship or series or whatever fandom-related junk isn't exactly going to have some mind-blowing epiphany from someone else yelling at them that "omg so-and-so thing that you like sucks because I don't like it". It rarely works that way. 8|

124. I've become a bit of a fan of Mariya's whole man-bitch attitude, but I'm not all that sold on the trap part (which boggles my mind because usually I enjoy a trap or two; reverse or normal). Either way, I love so many of the characters on that show (especially Ryuuken. ♥)

135. Same here! I shipped it all through the movie *because* they are dysfunctional. (they happen to be my favorite characters too~) Of course this only intensified with those scenes.

164. I know, I'll never understand the Shinji-hate. He's possibly the only character I *really* care for in that series, because he is so human and easy to relate - to me - that it hurts. Of course he was weak and insecure, but he tried to be a better person no matter the circunstances and genuinely cared for the others. I like him so much. And yes, Eva changed me too. (:

130. Heh. The timing on this is funny to me, because I knew almost nothing about the vocaloids less than a week ago (other than "there's this song synthesizer software, and it's somehow also this green-haired girl, and for some reason she really likes leeks."). I was kind of befuddled by what few videos I'd seen, and I didn't know about the rest of the vocaloids at all.

So if you'd made this secret a week ago, I'd have skipped it, because I wouldn't have even really known what you were talking about.

So then, I'm searching on Youtube for anime parody videos (since some of them are hilarious, okay) and I find this Hetalia parody of something called "Alice Human Sacrifice." And my eyebrows shoot to the top of my head, because "Alice Human Sacrifice" WTF!?! So I read the comments and find out that it's a parody of a vocaloid video.

So I search for the original and find 6 different versions of it. Each one creepier and bloodier and all around awesomer than the last. All with slightly different narrative stories and different artwork.

So then I start looking for other videos. And I find the "Daughter of Evil" videos (3 different main stories! Plus 2 offshoots from different viewpoints!). Then I find the "Kokoro Kiseki" video about the scientist who creates the girl without the heart, and the reply from the robot's point of view. And the mix of both viewpoints. And then I find "Deep Woods Circus." And "Revolution." And "World is Mine," and...

And then I come up for air after 4 days of surfing through youtube with nearly every minute of free computer time, and have 30+ links in my new "vocaloid" bookmark folder. And by this point I get the appeal.

I don't necessarily love it for the music (though some of the songs are pretty good, and I love some of the covers with actual singers). I totally get any criticism to the phenomenon based on tinny robotic voices. I still don't really get the sillier videos with the leeks and the repetition and no sort of storyline or narrative. Some of them are cute, but eh.

But I LOVE the stories. And I love the glimpse I'm getting of the fan culture, where apparently someone produces a song with the vocaloid programs, and another fan does a video, and then another fan does a song with an alternate viewpoint, or a sequel/prequel. Then someone does a cover of the song, or a mix. And the artwork is usually actually PRETTY GOOD. Even beautiful, sometimes. It's just fascinating.

Plus I'm a sucker for melodrama, which some of the stories are in spades.

So, yeah, I understand why you think it's all crap. But at the same time, man, if you haven't seen some of the storyline videos, you're missing out. If you have, and you still don't like them, then to each their own, everyone has their own tastes, yada yada.

Duuuude yes! I totally agree, the best thing about Vocaloid is it inspires a lot of people to make music, and music with STORIES. And of course there's groups like Supercell and such where the music really sounds great too!

I'll have to check out a few of those I haven't seen!

Though actually, "Kokoro" was originally from Rin's point of view, the scientist and Len versions were created later.

123. What's interesting is that, aside from gay rights and abortion, it's not hard to be a liberal Christian at all. Up until I think the mid-'90s, Catholics, at least, were overwhelmingly democrats. (But then I'm equating liberals with democrats, which is problematic).

Basically I think it's mostly gay-rights and abortion where conflict arises, but I, as a Catholic, choose to 'bypass' these issues, per se, by reasoning with equal rights and all that. I don't necessarily believe abortion is right, but I won't impose this belief as law on others.
