I agree so very much! That scene is one of two in New Who that make me wanna throw things at my screen. The other's the Doctor calling Jack a freak of nature and getting away with it. Ultimately though, I'm more mad at the writers for not fucking getting what they just wrote there than at the actual characters.

First of all, I'm glad you found the strength to get yourself out of that situation. I can only imagine what you went through, and hope that you're happier now.

Stephenie Meyer really has created a twisted fantasy for young girls, and what's worse is that she thinks Edward and Bella's love is "perfect" and tries to justify it. Those who write it off saying "it's just a book" should take a look at some of the Twihard communities out there and rethink their opinion.

165. I feel similarly about Kodomo no Jikan... I started reading it back when that huge controversy happened and... On the one hand, I really like dysfunctional, fucked-up characters, and KnJ has a lot of that. A lot of the time it also seems to recognize that what's going on with Rin is wrong, but at other times... ehhh. I can mostly ignore the "ew" parts for what I like, but I'm afraid it won't end up like you say, and if it doesn't I'll be so disgusted. :/ So I'll wait until the end of the series is in sight before I decide if I'll continue reading.

164. I can understand why he's hated -- it's because he seems whiny, "emo," immature, etc. And apparently, a lot of people don't like that -- I suspect it's because Shinji reminds people too much of themselves.

You know what I've noticed? Most times people that defend Shinji say that he is, in fact, a "strong" character, implying that he does have a side to him that isn't completely spineless. Which ... is certainly true, in some respects. The main reason I like him, though, is because he's real. He shows how any 14-year-old would act when placed in his situation. Here's where I can't understand the hate -- you can't expect a 14-year-old to pull an Amuro Ray and start piloting a mecha somewhat skillfully while being ~*~*~badass~*~*~. There's going to be self-doubt, there's going to be self-pity, there's going to be "emo" and spinelessness. And yet, realistically, he'll still keep at it, putting everything he has into it, and probably realizing he has more to give than he ever thought before. What I like about Evangelion is that, even though the plot and situations are surreal and unrealistic, the characters themselves aren't. Seeing someone like Shinji -- honest, realistic, etc. -- is a breath of fresh air in a medium saturated and stifled by Kaminas and Alucards and other one-dimensional "badasses" who do "cool" things. That's why I'll always like Shinji, and say fuck the haters.
