Normally I'd agree with you, but here's where it gets tricky with Watchmen. I am not against new fans in general. In fact, I have personally placed Watchmen in the hands of 10 new readers, all of whom have loved it. I'm proud to have done that and am happy to have shared a work I love with others who now appreciate it.

However, Watchmen is also a work that, for the past 20-odd years, has been treated by fans with the utmost dignity and respect; it has engendered deep, philosophical and ideological debate; its plotting, writing, and artwork has been analyzed to a nigh-Shakespearean degree. In short, Watchmen is SRS BSNS.

What I am not looking forward to: fangirls lusting after the Comedian (DOING IT RONG), Rorschach becoming everybody's woobie who was totally right in everything he did (MISSING THE POINT), misogynistic fanfic blaming Laurie for keeping Dan and Rorschach from proclaiming their EPIC TRU WUV, "I did it 35 minutes ago" becoming a meme and making it lose all of its impact in context, and the inevitable wank, wank, WANK.

I guess my point is I'm not against new fans, I just dread the new fandom.

No. Jesus Christ, am I the only straight person left in fandom? While I can admit when another woman is attractive, I could never imagine myself with any woman at all ever for any reason. No, there isn't any woman (yes even celebrities/fictional characters) that I'd "go gay for." I find it childish that you think that someone is immature just because they don't fit your view of how people should be. Everyone has their own preferences, get over yourself and stop judging people for them. I'm not a child just because I don't move along your little made up fandom timeline.

I've actually tried reading slash fanfiction, and it just doesn't do it for me. I just don't find it sexy, and even though I've found slash fanfiction that is well written, if a character is obviously straight in the manga/anime/whatever, then I just can't see it as being in character. That's just the way it is.

Not Fandom: This has got to be the greatest secret I've ever seen. Thank you.

I don't disagree that girl characters who are kickass and can fend for themselves get introduced a lot and then are put in situations where they become the damsel in distress. But if the same character was a boy, would that be "character derailment" or just Bob's turn to get saved? Bonus points if the girl in question isn't the only person on the show who ever needs to get saved.

And besides, why do girl characters always need to be "strong"? Fandom's okay with our boys being weak or breaking down, so why is a girl suddenly a "stereotypical girl" if she's strong for the entire series and cracks once?
