105: I feel like I should know where this is from but I don’t and that makes me sad. 

111: Good luck. I hope your family will understand one day.

132: I’ve never seen I am sam but I’m going to check it out after hearing so many people say how good it is.

136: I think this too but then I realize it would probably make a lot more sense if I actually knew the fandom and think “If I don’t know the fandom, why am I reading this secret?”

138: Yeah, I know the feeling.

144: Ah crap, I think I just did that on a secret I just put in.

156: I always get so embarrassed when I have to try to explain fanfiction or slash to real people who have no idea what it is. The conversation goes like this: “Oh, and I like to write” “Really? What do you write?” *brief unsure silence as I try to decide what to say* “Well, I write this thing called fanfiction. It’s um, when you take a show or book or movie and write stories about the characters.” At which point if they know about fanfiction we totally bond and if they don’t, I get an odd look. It’s doubly awkward when they’re old enough to be my grandparent and this conversation is taking place in the hall after church (which has happened to me.)

157: I miss Siskel and Ebert.

158: I get that. You know if no one in your fandom is interested, you could try posting this essay to a feminist community. I like to read those sorts of things, even if I don’t know the series.

163: This breaks my heart. My prayers are with your family. I hope you don’t mind.

166: I agree.

169: That bothers me too. It’s almost like having female characters are anti-slash.

170: Yeah, fandom can do that. It sucks.

The subjunctive is so completely useless in English, you've got to expect that it'll die out.

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-03 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I was all set to agree with you mournfully, and then someone showed me this: http://www.ceafinney.com/subjunctive/guide.html

And I realised that we're both wrong. The subjunctive is everywhere! People just don't know that it is the subjunctive. So it's not going anywhere, it's just not getting the recognition it deserves!

Are you serious? I love him for the exact opposite reason: he plays every character differently. There's no fucking way Edward Scissorhands is like Jack Sparrow is like Ichabod Crane is like Sweeney Todd is like Willy Wonka. WTF.

Anon because I don't really want to take part in a wankfest, I just had to say GODDAMN.

I just saw an interview with Ebert since I haven't seen Ebert and Roeper for years, and wow, he has guts. I don't think I would have that much spirit after losing your ability to speak.

124. It was a very sad and beautiful death. The fan in me liked to think the little seeds and pollen that fell from it was carried off around the world where the Elemental could find a new home of soil and earth where there was no one to tell it what to do.

123, 124, 138, 156, 159

[identity profile] internal666.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
123. I'm going to tell you a little story.

When I was about... Mhm, 14 years old, I was very much into Kingdom Hearts fanfics. And there was one fic in particular that I adored, it was an ongoing story (It finished right before KH2 came out), but I had read what was already posted at least 4 times.

Well, one day I was just browsing on a forum that I lurked in, went into the fanfiction section and saw a KH fic. I naturally got curious, clicked on it and started reading... And I was stunned by what I found. The so called "author" of the fic had stolen the other fic that I loved. Word for word, scene for scene. He even used the original author's chapter summaries and notes. And the unsuspecting members of the forum were practically sucking this guy's e-dick.

So I started to rage, I went into the guy's profile to make sure it wasn't the same author with a different name, after it was determined that they weren't the same person (Based on the fact that the plagiarist was a year older than the original author and had a penis), I grabbed the real author's e-mail address from her FF.net profile and sent it to the mod in charge of the Fanfic forum. The mod was a victim of plagiarism herself, and she was furious. She made sure everyone in the thread new what the real deal was, temp banned the asshole and posted the link to the real fic.

TL;DR Call this bitch's ass out on her shit. It doesn't matter how many followers she has in the fandom, the second you show solid proof (If you could find the author you spoke to and have her pop up that would be wonderful) that she's a dirty, rotten, STD ridden, fic stealer she'll lose every last one of them. Don't let her get away with this any longer, plagiarists are the bane of every fanfic author out there, and they're the main reason why some people stop writing and quit the fandom. Make sure she doesn't do that to someone.

124. I felt the same way too, I always feel that way about personifications of nature. It's why I never do certain quests in the Ghostlands on WoW ;-;

138. You really shouldn't have been ignoring them in the first place, that really isn't going to help you at all. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that judging by the color scheme (The blue to pink) that you think you might be MtF, so here are a couple links for you http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/links.html
http://www.tsroadmap.com/info/organizations.html

The site really seems to be aimed more towards Transwomen than Transmen. But even if you're FtM you should be able to find a couple things on there that might be able to help. Sorry I couldn't get more links but I'm kinda rushing to finish this post cause I got to get somewhere.

156. I used to play the innocent role around my family and friends. But now I've let it kinda slip that I might know more than they think I do, but there's no way I'm going to tell them exactly HOW much I know. If they ever found out they'd freak XD

159. I only think that word should be used in Crossover fics, and only if the other series features characters who wouldn't be afraid of Voldemort (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Devil May Cry, I wanna say Sailor Moon but maybe not cause I could see Usagi/Serena being terrified of him, Yugioh, Hellsing, Doctor Who/Torchwood, Anita Blake, etc etc), if a HP character uses it, I automatically roll my eyes.

155

(Anonymous) 2009-02-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in complete agreement with you, but I'm afraid to say it because I know I'd be tarred and feathered.

Re: 155

[identity profile] graciebird.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I promise not to tar and feather. I would just absolutely love some examples - if you can show me how Edward Scissorhands and Raoul Duke are the same character, I will happily reconsider. Then if you can prove how those two characters are like every other character he's played (George Jung, Jack Sparrow, Donnie Brasco, Sweeny Todd, etc) I'll happily renounce everything.

126.

because

just

what

(Anonymous) 2009-02-03 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have seen the original movie.
*sigh* No one got the point I was trying to make.
The point is... THAT particular screenshot, THAT particular expression just made me think what I thought. I was NOT trying to make deep, philisophical connections. My brain went off the deep end, and I wanted to share it with others without same or ridicule. Unfortunately, that's all I have received. I'm sorry no one else got to partake in the absurd hilarity that I found when I saw that picture.
