116. Wow, that's dedication. Maybe you'll write an epic tale featuring at least some of them someday?
129. I didn't even pay attention to the words of this secret, my eyes were drawn right to Luigi's striped socks. Is this weird?
144. If I were you, I'd congratulate yourself on educating this commenter. I make that mistake all the time and I need to stop doing that.
159. Unless you're writing dialogue for Peeves. Then it might be okay. But I agree in all other cases.
162. [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama has totally corrupted me. Now I pretty much ship Rahm/Every Liberal Politician, Comedian, and Commentator On The National Stage (and some conservatives too!)

One reference to a "bitter vagina" makes it misogynist? I don't really see anything that screams "I hate women" about that post.

I guess this means I can't call people "cunts" anymore. Better stick with "dick," and the ever-popular, egalitarian "asshole".

120 & 130. Noooot really about fandom, are they?

135. I disagree -- I thought McFadyen did a fantastic job at portraying Darcy's shyness and reserve coming across as aloofness. If only the rest of the movie hadn't been such a travesty.

144. ILU, BB. (Do you correct song lyrics when you sing along, like I do? E.g., Radiohead's "Creep": I wish I was special must become I wish I were special.)

105 - Bobby's car? I have no idea, they're both orange-ish (car fail.)
153 - New cast>old cast. I couldn't actually remember the old cast, and wasn't sure if they had been replaced, so thank you for clearing that up. I don't think they were replaced just to fill some weird quota of the BBC's, but because they are in fact better actors. (Also, new ghost does look a lot younger than old ghost, you must admit.) I'm glad they kept Tovey though.

[identity profile] myonlylight.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Really? You're joking with us, right? You honestly feel the need to present this as a secret when fandom is ripe with people who think the same thing? Come on.

106. With a dog? (sorry, I know that was in poor taste, but I couldn't resist)

114. Liking a certain type of music or a certain band shouldn't be a secret. And seriously, why the disclaimer at the beginning? They don't have to be the best band in the genre for you to like them. But they can be the best band in the genre for you.

124. The whole point of that scene was to make the audience feel conflicted. Naturally, you wanted HB to win, but at the same time you were supposed to feel sympathy for the 'monster'. It was at one tragic and triumphant, and was supposed to emphasize the decline of natural beauty and in the process make Nuada a more sympathetic villain. So yeah, I'm sure you weren't alone. I didn't cry, but whenever I think about the symbolism, I ache.

126. I adore him. He's so strangely alluring.

140. Dude, of course it's going to be a letdown. Like they say, the destination isn't as important as the journey, or some bullshit like that. Honestly, I'm not too worried about how it's going to end because I'm having a hell o f a lot of fun getting there.

152. Did Gilda Radner just pop up in f!s? OP I LOVE YOU. Also, Jane/Dan would be fun, but ONLY if they were doing their Point Counter Point characters at the time.

156. Congratulations, because I think you just gave a little credence to the people who claim that fandom asexuals don't exist in the numbers they claim.

159. Fuck, I mostly stopped reading HP fic a while ago, but yeah. This has always bugged me. "Voldie" would kill anyone he even thought was using this word, too. Added to that, it always made me think of moldy food. I also tended to get really annoyed when the author suddenly had everyone and their brother using Voldemort. The wizarding world was pretty consistently terrified of using that word, no matter how many times Harry flung it around.

The second 'take it to the comments' is a repeat, and I maintain my position on this. If Eddie hadn't died, we wouldn't have Eddie's Teddy or the big reveal of him being in the dining room table. That scene is so blasted amazing, that song is wonderful, and as much as I love Meat Loaf, I wouldn't change a thing.

125. But the dynamic often does change; a trio of friends can easily turn into a couple and a third wheel, even if their friendship isn't a lesser love than romantic. Especially before the honeymoon period's over. Not to say that all friends should be an OT3, but there will be changes in the dynamics of the friendship.

(Anonymous) 2009-02-03 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Me as well. Old!Mitchell seemed so otherworldly and ancient like you could picture him dressed up in Edwardian clothing easily. The new one is the modern Twilight vampire cliche and he lacks chemistry with George.

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
125 I don't think it's fandom that doesn't value non-romantic love; it's the larger culture. After all, how many films are about friendships? How many films/tv shows/books explicitly say that in order to have the healthy romantic relationship you're "supposed" to have, you will need to leave your less-mature single friends behind and possibly defy your family? It's the prioritization of the nuclear family over all other relationships, and it's been going on for a long time. In fact, a lot of slash is trying to assert the importance of the relationship, rather than accepting that it will take a back seat when the characters eventually "mature" into appropriate romantic relationships.

127 OK that Xhibit macro is HI-larious!

135 See icon. ITA!

136 This totally needed to be said, thank you!

144 I didn't learn the subjunctive in English class; I learned it in Latin class I think, or perhaps Spanish. A lot of public school grammar classes don't talk about the subjunctive mood.

168 If F!S has taught me anything, it's that people judge you for what font you use, so there's no point in worrying about it. Judgy people are judgy; I just try to avoid them.

144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OP sez: English Grammar at my school was mostly "a noun is a person, place or thing," and I didn't learn what to call the subjunctive until high school French, but I certainly used the mood before I knew its name. My own dialect uses it productively, but even if yours doesn't, it is still standard in written English.
