I have nothing of value to add to this secret since I don't watch My Little Pony, so I don't know what Rarity's like, but I love Mimi even in the English dub. She's just a really fun character.

I only watched MLP: FiM for about three seasons and I ended up liking Rarity a lot, too. I kind of endear to characters that are shown as rich and/or pampered and spoiled, but prove to be incredibly kindhearted. I know there's more, but my immediate go-to for fave is probably Lottie from The Princess and the Frog. God, I adore Lottie.

English dub Mimi is a lot more like Rarity than Japanese Mimi. Have you watched the entire series dubbed? She starts out seeming typically spoiled and vain, but she has character development and ends up a lot like Rarity. In Japanese she's really not spoiled or into fashion at all and is more of a generic cute and sweet girl.

Have you ever played Fire Emblem: Awakening? There's this character called Maribelle in it. She strikes me as fairly similar to Rarity. She comes across as sharp-tongued and spoiled, but is very protective of her friends.

I loved Digimon as a kid and I recently got introduced to MLP because I have children of my own now. Rarity and Mimi is a really good comparison, they definitely have the same vibe. I really love both characters and they're actually my favourites in their respective series.

My secret is that I really, really hated Binti. I felt like it threw out any semblance of logical motivation/behavior for every other character to make the MC So Cool Save The Galaxy.

Not to raise the dreaded specter of mary sue, but I don't enjoy books that incoherent when it's white girls at the center either.

People keep saying Okorafor is good, though. Is this better?

Is rudeness your “natural” state that you have to suppress, or does being pleasant come easily to you?

I was thinking today about how I feel annoyed sometimes because nobody realizes just how much effort it takes me to act like a sociable human being instead of giving in to the urge to yell at people who don’t deserve it and things like that. And I got to thinking, don’t they realize how hard it is from doing it themselves? Or are most people actually not like this, and being nice and polite is their natural state? I can’t ask the whole world, and this is the biggest group of people I can reach, so I want to see how many people find it a struggle to keep up a front of decency and how many don’t feel like it’s a front at all.

Cynical tl;dr: I’m an asshole who spends my whole life pretending not to be an asshole. Are you?
