143. I would believe in Ondore's lies in a minute, if you know what I mean. He IS hot.

117. I was born and raised Catholic, and though I subsequently decided that it was not for me, I still get really, really pissed off when people bash Catholics, both inside and outside of fandom. I think most of us know many wonderful people of many faiths and non-faiths in real life. What happens to this when people hop online?

168. Anon, are you me? Because between the slowly falling bells and the sweet music and the fact that I can't stop thinking that the bunny is just trying to get to heaven, why won't they let her in?, Winter Bells almost makes me cry every time I play it.

[identity profile] milo1047.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
117. A lot of people in fandom like to believe they are edgy and different. And one of the best ways to do this is to become a radical atheist/pagan and bash monotheistic religion, especially Christianity. I have no problem with people who don't believe in God or are pagan or whatever, but I don't bash your beliefs so kindly leave mine alone. We're all here to enjoy the cartoons and TV shows, kthx.

That's my theory, at least.

I should NOT have read that right before taking a nap...I should've learned by now not to read these posts when I'm planning to sleep....

But to tell you the truth, I've also had dreams that violated childhood memories worse than anything on the internet ever could. I've been debating whether or not to mention some of my childhood-raping dreams in this group..... D:

137. When anyone goes into "anon mode" like that, they're assuming the default anonymous personality, which happens to be "male" because that's the environment it was created in, like 4chan with a blanket assumption of male. I would venture a guess that nobody's consciously trying to act male, but that people are just trying to act in tandem to preserve anonymity. Since we ARE in a male-dominated society, anon is male until proven female (though not on LJ so much, anon's language is mostly inherited from elsewhere). probably most posts will read as male anonymously unless something seriously points in the other direction.

basically I have an idea of what I'm talking about but when I try to write it out it makes no sense

somehow it seems I am the only one to answer all ridiculously pretentiously and not just call you stupid so far
UM, I MEANT TO SAY THAT YOU'RE STUPID. ...I didn't actually in case that wasn't clear.

wow I think you're the only one who could wrap their brain around this secret! I witnessed two yaoi fans anonymously calling one another a "moralfag", IMO that kind of insult is pretty "male" in nature and it's puzzling sometimes. I suppose people in anon-mode are a hive-mind of sorts...

[identity profile] resounding-echo.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand why you believe they are in competition with one another.

A medium is a medium. Certainly, perhaps one medium suits a context better--it's message, audience, etc--but it's not a matter of which is "better" but rather which is more appropriate for the issue at hand.

103. I figured that she didn't really have much of a choice. Azula is right there standing next to her after all. She probably would've killed him anyway if Mai disobeyed her there.

115. ...this wont end well

133. That's really heartwarming and you're a lovely person. <3

150. It's the same way with a lot of het too. Think how often you hear "oh it's a guy and a girl who had some history!" "They're totally together!". Especially irl. :|
Also, ooc badfic is not limited to only slash.

168. Orisinal! <3
And agreed about the bunny.

126. I kinda find it creepy that the day someone introduced me to the Fate/Stay Night game (Recommended it since I really liked Tsukihime), I suddenly see secrets for it. >.> It's good to know that fandom does exist for it. :D

138. I don't personally ship it, but I do know a few people who actually ship it. P2 isn't a large calling like P3 and P4, but the fandom does exist. Hell, I got into Persona through EP. :D

170. Lawlz!

118 - I want Harper and Obama to be my real life, bromance OTP. Which is weird cause I've never been anywhere close to getting into the political "fandom" (and I'm not overly interested in politics anyways). I just think they should, I don't know, have sleep overs and drink beers together.

123 - Oh hush. I probably have a bigger comic book collection than most people here, but I'm not going to agree to that. There are scenes which will work better in a book, and then there are scenes that'll work better in comics, and then there are scenes that will work better in movies. What I love about comics is that it's the middle ground between movies and books. You can get the personal thoughts of characters down while also being able to enjoy scenes with lots of action (say what you will, but most authors fail to translate action into books very well). Despite being that beloved middle ground, it's hard to say that comics are a superior medium when a lot less have been done with them than what's been done with books (I think the medium would've progressed more, were it not for Seduction of the Innocent and the entire comics code thing)

148 - She looks so gorgeous as a redhead.

157 - I don't even want to admit what I've learned from fic :)

113. I write them down on post-its. I do this for secrets I want to comment on, as well.

117. Hells yeah! I usually shock people when they get to know me before they find out I'm Catholic. I'm a crazy slash-fan, I swear all the Goddamn time, and I'm a total bitch. XDD

121. I sing it at the top of my lungs! :D

148. I agree.

158. Everyone's a little bit racist, it's true...

111. So it shall be written, so it shall be done! ;)

117. That's not very tolerant. :( I've mentioned being Catholic on my LJ and no one says anything. But then my flist is made up of people of many religions or none at all, and it's all cool. But yay Hellboy!

121. Ha, so do I. Though I also sing it to myself in the bathroom, the living room, the kitchen...

131. That's not tacky! That's awesome! I love Barricade.

136. Phoebus and Esmeralda were awesome together! They both had great personalities and could match wits with each other.

161. I was totally charmed by that dance number. It was so sweet. It's so easy to poke fun at Troy & Gabriella, but I'll admit I totally ship it in canon.

I am so sorry...

But I cannot stop laughing.

[identity profile] flyingcharr.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
108. You have good taste. XD No really that movie was sooo good!

169. Just because you think someone of the same sex is attractive, that doesn't mean you're gay/bisexual. If you actually want to have sex with them that maybe a different matter. But I never understood why it's strange for a straight person to be able to point out an attractive person of any gender.

[identity profile] milo1047.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
117. WORD!

123. I somehow doubt that The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lord of the Rings, Terry Pratchett, A Song of Fire and Ice, or many other books would have been better in comic form. Not saying I don't like graphic novels or that they're lesser...just that some literature wouldn't work well in that format.

124. Ow, my fucking eyes, anon.

137. There are definitely fandoms with more guys in them...

[identity profile] sanae.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
126. I kind of admired the versions of Shirou that didn't become Archer more. I thought he was pretty cool in HF, though, even though UBW sort of killed any respect I had for him.

103. Dammit anon first I can't like anime and have to watch barney but now you forgot to invite me to the Mai party? Dammit. This fandom love was so awesome I bet, how did I miss out on a party like that?

135. ...anon. anon. good work.

Maybe it's the fandoms/people in them that aren't right? I've been in different fandoms for ten years now actively, twelve passively, and I've only ever been given crap about my Catholicism once by someone who'd had a really bad experience with Catholics and could be excused being wary! Everyone else has been pretty sweet about it, really. Occasionally puzzled (scientist, slasher and Catholic... shouldn't mix?), but sweet :).

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Scientist, slasher and Catholic? Does sound like an odd mix but so long as (as a scientist) you don't believe in creationism/earth-the-centre-of-everything/earth-is-younger-than-pyramids-and-devil-made-dinosaurs and you aren't likely to banish/try to harm any kids of yours for being gay or becoming Hindu or something (which, given the slash, seems unlikely) I'm fine.

I don't understand it but you wouldn't understand my take on religion so meh. Live and let live so long as no harm is being done.

And hey, Josiah Bartlett, the best fictional President ever, was Catholic! *g*

The oddest thing is how.... not actually that odd it is when you think about it. Aside from fiction catholic west wing characters the Pope isn't anti-evolution, I know another catholic whose a slasher and my former PM converted to the faith after he left office (he didn't do so whilst in it because the religious are seen as slightly cooky over here) and he wasn't conservative or anti-science.

So yeah. I've never seen any bashing of the religious or the non-religious in fandom really. Except the Phelps crew and those like them, but I think pretty much everyone hates their actions more than the fact they hold those beliefs.

I'll stop babbling on you now.

103: Um, what fandom love? Last time I checked, Mai was still one of the most hated characters on the show, in spite of actually having some emotional subtlety.

[identity profile] sparklywalls.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
116. Yay Underworld love!

Maybe even Viktor? I probably would :p I try to keep my love for Bill Nighy purely innocent but there's no avoiding that he's a bit of a hot old man...

118:But Stephen Harper is so fucking creepy.

OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-25 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
118. The article wasn't actually about Harper and Obama in particular - it was also about previous prime ministers and their relationships with American Presidents...

That said, I am highly amused by the way that very few of the commenters seem to like Harper.

132. Random fantasy win.

150. If you're expecting flames, write a secret that's legible so people will actually read it to wank.

153. LOL I was just going to ask if you only liked those 'ships with those actors in mind. Roger, Mark, and Mimi's parts in Christmas Bells completely make me OT3 them, but I'm still in the firm belief that Mark/Roger is a much more interesting dynamic (friendship, romantic, whatever) than Roger/Mimi.

[identity profile] caterfree10.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
103. THIS. THIS is why I cannot love Mai as much as I want to.

123. Honestly, I'm inclined to agree. There are a lot of things in comics that most regular book publishers wouldn't dream of touching. That's something I love about comics and manga. :3

124. One, the changing colors HURTS MY FUCKING EYES. JESUS. Two, THISTHISTHISTHISTHIS. I don't understand it either!

135. BRB, DYING OF LAUGHTER. X'D

136. OH GOD, THIS.

139. I love that song, too, Anon! <3

166. Your taste in fiction =/= your moral principles. You'll be a lot happier when you realise this.

165. Uh, you too.

150. *sigh* This isn't even interesting trollery. I know you probably mean and believe this, but this secret, in various forms, has been put up here many times, and I'm so bored with it. You're wrong. But I don't even feel like arguing with you. I have better things to do.

148. idk. I agree.

140. If this is true there is something wrong in your life. Get out there and find a better one. Access to the internet is limited in mental hospitals.

136. I'm so bored with that whole attitude too. Sometimes pretty people happen to like each other.

106. For me it was Jim Profit.
