103. YOU AND ME BOTH except for the 18 thing. Though I can remember trying to play one back when I did have a PC and not being able to figure it out, so maybe it doesn't matter. :(

117. It's probably because the plot in the games is... not that good. :| It gets fleshed out a lot more in the novels, though. ALSO LOOK YOU GOT 117 8D!!!

137. Most people are in fandoms to escape the real world, but that can be both a good and a bad thing... depending on how far they take it. Also, sometimes when people say stuff like "I'm writing this instead of my paper" or "I drew this in class" it doesn't necessarily mean "I don't care about school." Maybe they'll write the paper later, or maybe drawing during class helps them concentrate.

146. What is this?

156. Well, I like Kyon better as a girl, so we can both sit over here in the shallow corner. :x

Tiny boobs, but boobs.

123. The ship wars did it? Huh. They've died down a lot, really.

137. Can someone macro this into the definition of concern trolling? TEENAGERS ARE DRAWING IN CLASS? IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD

Your friends were right to react the way you did, because I'm sorry, but you're just fucking stupid if you think fandom is the primary reason people procrastinate or don't give their all to education. Actually, I think it's you who doesn't live in the real world if you honestly believe that.

150. I hate Sean Penn. For so, so many reasons.

I don't get it either :\
I don't find him to be this amaaaaaaaaaazing actor that everyone makes him out to be. He was decent in what, two movies, and everything else kind of... sucked.
I was more upset by Jonathan and Brad Renfro.

Win. XD

154, 159

[identity profile] merriman.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
154: There's a comment a couple of pages back that I agree with that explains a bit of why Ledger got so much more of a public reaction from people. But I had to add that it makes me that much sadder to know that Brandis was so out of the public eye at the time that his death is still news to some.

159: Wesley Crusher was awesome. I had a thing for him and my mother (who got me into ST) thought he was a great character because he was an intelligent kid who wasn't ostracized for his intelligence. Yes, he was a geek, but he wasn't the social outcast intelligent kids are usually portrayed as in other shows.

[identity profile] lipsofpoison.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 12:57 am (UTC)(link)

159. Nope, I love him :D

[identity profile] nationalboner.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
101 - I do the same thing with books sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-01 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
129. While that doesn't look like the kind of show I'd like, I'm really creeped out by the constant "there must never be bad messages on TV" stuff I see in fandom. Often from people who write creepy things themselves. People aren't going to imitate everything they see on TV.

[identity profile] we-are-zombies.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
110 - Oscar Wilde's awesome. I practically ate his books in junior high.
111 - I think those are good role models, if you know what to take from them. Although... Yuki?
136 - I'm not interested in Avatar in the least, but I hate seeing Kataang getting bashed because of their ages. And I hate it even more when the fans are insulted. Enjoying a "young love" type of relationship =/= pedo.
138 - I felt that way for a series about a year or two ago. After a while I began enjoying life more, though nothing's replaced that special series that got me through. What that series is would warrant a secret itself it's so stupid, but yeah. I hope you find other things you love soon too, OP. Things will get better.

121

[identity profile] spacemonkeyluvn.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
NAKATSU!!!! He needs more love (like actually in the show) <3

147

[identity profile] rumminov.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
147. Jesus christ, I knew this series was controversial but I had no idea it was that blatant. I agree with you anon.

Re: 147

[identity profile] malik-chan.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
The anime is. The manga is not (after a a few volumes though). Of course the anime is, I think, only six episodes long and was probably made for the loli lovers.

127

[identity profile] etchandetchan.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
BNL is like my childhood! The drug issues and breakup depressed me way more than they should, especially because Steven's my favorite member, too.

115, 127, 159

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
115: Jack/Jo/Allison but not Jack/Allison/Nathan? Really? (I don't actually ship either, but the second seems more in character to me.) I love OT3s and fandom puppy-piles, myself, but I'm also a fan of it IRL, so I can't help you with that part.

127: Maybe I'm just cynical and assume that all musicians either indulge or have in the past, but - why would you feel betrayed? Upset at his poor judgement, sure, but personally betrayed?

159: I liked him after first season. His character in first season was inconsistent to the point of intolerability. But second season and onward? Dreamy! :-) (I gotta get a Trek icon. Bad fan, no icon.)

129

[identity profile] angeladunn.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god my mom and I can't stop watching it, either 8(

IT'S SO HORRIBLE and yet I got upset when my mom deleted the new episodes that I didn't get to watch, yet!

And I think that the only GOOD character is Ben's dad, honestly.

154

[identity profile] eviinsanemonkey.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
When I found out Jonathan Brandis had died (I found out like...two years after the fact 'cause that's when I first decided to look up "that cute kid from the Flash", as I called him), I stared at my computer in shock and sadness because he was amazing. I then proceeded to see everything he'd been in. (I then threw a fit when I found out he'd auditioned to be Anakin...)

[identity profile] brokenbacktango.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
115. Well, it's different when it's you. Reading about it is a way of experiencing it from a safe distance; it's a kink but it doesn't necessarily mean you want to act it out in real life (yet or ever). It's ok, I wouldn't worry about it at all!

But um... yay Merlin/Gwen/Arthur/Morgana! *waves OT4 flag*

150

(Anonymous) 2009-03-01 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
So much word to this. I guess human rights only matter when the people are American!

And I didn't think he deserved the Oscar, either. Milk wasn't that great a movie.

154

[identity profile] kelikala.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how likely it is that you'll see my response... but when I heard of Johnathan's death it was like a punch to the stomach. He wasn't an actor that many people were familiar with and it was just down right depressing to have people ask me who he was whenever I would mention his name. He was gifted and he was a gorgeous young man. It was a shame to loose him so young.

136, 137, 152, 159, n!s1

[identity profile] jikeidannin.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
136 - I think people just like to abuse the word "pedo". You like a ship with too-young characters? That's fine. DOESN'T MAKE YOU A PEDO, because like you said OP - you don't want to do them, therefore you're not a pedo. The overuse of this word really annoys me.

137 - I've blown off homework to fuck around on the internet before, too. I mean, lots of people do that once in awhile. But really, ignoring the real world all the time in favor of fandom is NOT OKAY. It makes the younger generation look like it's full of retards. Honestly, it worries me.

152 - As a Muse fan, I feel your pain. D:

159 - I liked him too. :c

n!s1 - Seriously, what the fuck is your damage? GOD FORBID ANYONE LIKE SOMETHING. I'm neutral on the pairing, myself, but this kind of thing just makes me wish someone would punch you in the face. Grow the hell up.

That's mostly a sign of your age.

You do realize there's like 300 million people in the U.S. alone, right? And not all of them are into fandom. I don't think you're a horrible person, but I do think you are worried over nothing. The world won't collapse because some irresponsible teenager got F's on her report card.

Re: 137

(Anonymous) 2009-03-01 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I would be worried about these fandom trends becoming more and more common in America, up until we get a lost generation.

150 - THIS!

[identity profile] la-revanche.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
150. Support of socialist governments/leaders that aren't on good (or in the case of Castro, any) diplomatic terms with the US != being against gay rights. I don't even see how you could connect those two things. Try doing a little research before jumping to conclusions. Situations in many, many areas of the world are not the way they're portrayed in the filtered, edited American news media.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Venezuela
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Cuba

Educate yourself, OP. (These links are just starters, a Google search will give you much, much more information.) Venezuela is on a similar level to the United States on the legal aspects of LGBT rights (social acceptance is another thing, but hell, we're still working on that here), and the situation is far from perfect in Cuba, but Raul Castro's daughter is a LGBT rights activist, and sex change operations are available for FREE. That has to count for something, and it proves you wrong in assuming that it makes someone a hypocrite if they support both LGBT rights and these leaders/governments.
