tl;dr commentary from my own journal!

I'm not really outing myself here, since I linked the goddamned OBVIOUS secret to half of the people before it posted anywhere, but omg.

So, okay. I made a secret. And I was like "god, people are gonna think I'm creepy for this BUT I DON'T CARE" while I was making it. And I posted it to rp_secrets. But then I was like, "oh, but there's like two people that I kinda really want to know they're appreciated that maybe don't go there, so I'll put it in 8, too!"

So, I open fandom_secrets today, and IT'S THERE. And I WTF at myself. "OH GOD, WHERE DID I ACTUALLY SUBMIT THIS?"

And one of the page one comments is one of those "You're being terribly creepy" faces, saying I'd posted it to rp_s - EXCEPT RP_S HASN'T GONE UP YET, AND I DIDN'T SEE IT THERE YESTERDAY OR THE DAY BEFORE. So now I'm all paranoid and shit.

Did I seriously blow my fucking wad all over the internets with this and not even notice?

117. I don't get how slash is related to feminism at all. Isn't it just kind of... completely UNrelated? I mean women don't even play a role in slash since it's about men, right? How are women's (romantic, I assume) roles diminished if they just don't play a part in the romantic thing at all?

Are men diminished by femslash? Does femslash diminish men? No, in the same way that slash doesn't diminish women -- it's not that they're less important in the canon, it's that the fans of slash or femslash like to focus on certain characters (fanatical bashers/haters/people that deny characters exist/people that turn men/women into cardboard villains etc. excluded -- but that's not because they like slash or femslash, it's because they are brainless fantards). That's like asking WHERE ALL THE WOMENS AT!?!?! in a movie about, idk, soldiers at the front lines in WWII. There's just no reason for them to be there, a lot of the time.

Would it be better if all those people writing plotless smut fic wrote het or femslash instead of slash? It's not like there's epic quality writing going on usually anyway. Er, take all the random porn and sappy romance that fandom produces if you want, I don't think that really makes it any better for women. Well besides yay more porn featuring women.

105. Them again? I agree that the story is lacking (yeah, fuck off anon who thinks that all yaoi everywhere must be pointless by definition) but I don't hate it. As you said, it's pretty, but ultimately I try not to have high expectations of webcomics. It's just not worth hating.

115. I can only read Harry/Draco where Harry's cheating on Ginny if it's known and expressed that it's mean and unfair to Ginny (and possibly, as such, is angsty). I will usually skip out on fic where it's not an issue at all and definitely will if there's a bunch of Ginny-bashing. There's no need to bash the female characters for the sake of slash.

I don't believe slash is inherently anti-feminist because some slash has female characters in great roles (and some fic addresses feminist issues even) -- saying that would be like saying het is automatically feminist, imo, which it's obviously not. But I do agree that the practice within slash fandom of ignoring women has a lot of pathetic excuses.
