115- I agree with your stance on cheating, and about personal experience affecting the way you read a story. Whenever I see Character A pursue Character B despite Character B turning them down or being taken already, I can't empathize with Character A and they end up on my hatelist (few exceptions).

126- I always figured they were just goofy - several of my friends act the way they do without being high - but either way they make me smile so hard.

149- Diggin' the .txt filename there. Also, lol.

161- Whoa, back the fuck up- Is that Kaname and Yuki? They're related?

115 OP

105. All the hate for this comic pisses me off. I don't like the comic that much - fucking incredible art, but I'm incredibly turned off by poorly-drawn "lol yaoi" comics, so the same applies even to stunning ones. It's still, however, absolutely gorgeous and miles above most serious webcomics in art quality.

The artist and the fans aren't fucking mauling you haters in your sleep. I haven't actually seen a lot of fanbratting for it - usually just people complimenting the art and the odd comment that the buttsex is really forced.

If the creator wants to ruin a perfectly good story, why isn't that their goddamn prerogative? I mean, I just find webcomic hating really creepy to me because most webcomic artists aren't earning a damn dime off of this. They're not becoming the most beloved people on the internet from this. They're telling a story they want to tell, and everyone wanks all over them for this. It's enough to make a person decide not to publish their damn comic on the web if all it's going to do is make people hate them.

117. ....whut. No, really, whut? I get that a lot of slash fangirls can say really misogynist things, but still... whut? You can't like a dude taking it up the butt and be a feminist?

7/10 just for confusing me so much that I'm not quite sure if you really are a troll or not.

155. Not only that, but sasuke is better off without them. He seems to have a better relationship with Team Taka.

116. I would agree with you if you weren't such an *~*edgy*~* douchebag about it.

117. Are you saying that slash is misogynistic? WHAT???? :|

119. OK, fine, not all stories with that kind of stereotype suck. But most of them do, and it's one of those things where you have to weed your way through the crap to get to the good stuff, and some of us aren't exactly willing to do that. Besides, IMHO, I'd rather read a fic that is realistic rather than adhering too close to canon. You're treading dangerously close to canon-nazi territory here.

135. I don't think it's the people who've dropped the show who need to think a little, to be frank. And one more thing:

Fangirlism is srs bzns. Go hard or go home.

139. Has that show come out yet? Looks interesting.

142. It's OK to think that show is boring, but that gives you no right to bash it like that. See, I'm a huge fan of Evangelion, and I believe it's one of the few anime shows out there that does have some actual depth to it instead of feigning it. But I would be totally lying to you if I said I didn't get why many people don't like it. It is possible to recognize a show's flaws and still appreciate it.

Mmm, but I think half the fun of that pairing is when Franziska (often in her own slightly failtasic way, admittedly) actually helps Adrian become a stronger person. And Adrian helping Franziska to become a little less obsessed with perfection.

Admittedly, that's not easy, and it's not something that's going to happen overnight. But you are trying to help her(?), which I think is a good thing. Just keep doing that.

Hey anon, are you me? I was ranting about this just a few days ago. The only good thing about it is the style, and, potentially the setting. I mean I love stories about partner-type systems! Throw two people together and force them to work together despite character differences! Awesome premise!

But I feel she really drops the ball with it. Into a pit going through the center of the earth. And then the ball gets sucked into a black hole. Because really? The characters are one-dimensional cutouts, everything is an excuse for cliché guy-on-guy seme uke bs smut.

Now, I'm all for doing what you enjoy, or else I'd be a hypocrite posting this. She has every right to post/draw this, but good god, it's such tripe.

Also there is no way biting someone like that will cause a scar like that, FFS. And it would bleed a lot more, methinks.

Go to the library, borrow Joanna Russ's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joanna_Russ) Magic Mommas, Trembling Sisters, Puritans & Perverts, read "Pornography by Women for Women, With Love", lather, rinse, repeat before terminal flaming takes over this thread.

*Yes*, there aren't many female characters in slash fic, *but* the fact that slash fic is mostly written by women, and it is at its core, women writing about what gets them off (sex for its own sake? For *gasp* FUN, even?) is rather subversive from a mainstream perspective. Hell, Russ wrote some of the landmarks works of Feminist SF, is openly gay, and was cranking out K/S fics before a great number of folks in this comm were born.

But we're only getting off on it because that's what the patriachy has conditioned us to get off on! Instead, we should be getting off on things that have been approved by other feminists!

Personal agency? Whassat?

I agree with you on most points. There's nothing wrong with enjoying porn, or gay porn, or PWP, but... quality.

The art is nice, but that's where it ends. This is the sort of cliché collection you find in an average trashy fanfic — beginning with the characters' looks (blond = uke, dark = "mysterious" seme), continuing on with a parade of bad yaoi clichés (rape = twu wub, amongst other things), and ending with the total sacrifice of what could be an interesting setting otherwise.

Perhaps the thing that bugs me most about it is that both the author and the fans are totally convinced that this is romantic. A rape-fantasy is one thing, but this is something quite different.

PS: Scars only work that way if you apply a pair of nail scissors. Or seme-dude is a vampire, dragging his fanged incisor down the other dude's face. ...I will not make this joke.

105. Uhhh I fail to see how someone creating something that is a fantasy of theirs is a bad thing. They like boys assfucking each other. Big deal. Nobody's making you read it. /hasn't read it due to lack of motivation, though, so I might be way off

117. Why does anyone need an "excuse" for fannish practices anyway? Did "because it's hot" stop being a valid reason?

119. Well, you can obviously do "realistic" takes on the canon. But if, for example, the source material gives you a free pass on people being able to hear things in outer space, making it impossible just to be realistic seems silly, especially if it's a plot point or something. Canon trumps realism.

131. Stop using unreadable text. Not everyone has super!bright screens.

165. I love lolcats. Also Failblog and Pundit Kitchen. A little immaturity goes a long way to making my day way better.

122. Yeah yeah lighten up and all that jazz, but doesn't it bother anyone that these people are in black face. RDJ almost got a fucking Oscar for it. AM I THE ONLY ONE NOT COOL WITH THIS??!

TB!1. March on fellow Zutarians! Plus 1000000x this.

NS!1. BUEH? How does Zutara remind anyone of Ursai?
(the Zutara secrets make me so happy :))

122. He's not exactly doing a minstrel show. He wasn't making fun of or exploiting black people, he was making a comment on a certain type of actor who gets... well a bit too into the role. I do think that there SHOULD have been some kind of outcry because surely not all people would get the subtler points beyond the dark makeup. The blackface was SUPPOSED to be controversial. Maybe the target audience was too young and/or ignorant to know about the history. Maybe people just don't care anymore. There should at least be discussion. If there were, OP probably would understand the huge difference between the two portrayals.

117. You know, I actually like having this sort of discussion in fandom, and even I'm getting a bit sick of these secrets. Can't we take a break for a couple weeks?

135. Um, but they are "going home." And you're getting mad at them for it. Just saying.

152. Isn't it saying almost the exact same things that every other movie about that era is saying? I swear I've seen two other shows with the same story and different music.

That was my reaction when I first saw this secret (which was actually last Sunday, after a friend found it on tinypic and linked me). Even the ones with very valid points seem to bethere for the wank at this point, simply because there's no way you can't knowthat there'll be wank over them.

109. Okay, so, I'm horribly biased on account of being a huge Merlin fangirl, but... firstly, I tend to just ignore the dialogue issue on account of, well, shouldn't they be speaking Old English or something, and, therefore, isn't all the dialogue kind of a contemporary translation?, and secondly... it gets A LOT better later in the series. And I mean A LOT. Episodes 8-12 are the best, methinks. They tended to tone down the silliness, which includes the more modern language, mostly.

There's nothing wrong with being a huge Merlin fan, and if it floats your boat then go right ahead ^_^

I find it hard to swallow because I have been following and researching (geek!) the Arthur myth for years. I enjoy seeing what interpretations of said myth other people have and how it's translated to film. Merlin is fine as a crack spoof of the myth, so I'm treating it as that. CGs are fine, special effects are fine, unicorns and dragons, fine; I love the random mythical beast as much as the next person. But the one thing I feel should at least be accurate is language. You want to draw in a younger audience, okay. You already have the actors, the plots, the special fx.

I don't feel they should ruin their own language. Once they did that, there is zero semblance to any sort of reality in the show to me, AU or whatever. Hence, I can't watch it. Which is a shame because I wanted to.

/rant. Sorry 'bout that. And do go on being a fan. My squick shouldn't ruin other people's enjoyment of the show.
