I already have a ton of DVDs floating around the house and you've given me yet another reason to buy and watch Brisco

also we should be friends

101: It had me tearing up a bit too. I'm not sure what it was, but Christy-Christ, those opening credits were beautiful.

102: Yay, Adrian secrets. :3 Moviemandias was pretty good, though a little bit too concieted. He's really hot, I'll agree with that.

107: Both the movie and the comic got emotional reactions from me. Silent tears towards the comic, but I was stiffling myself from BAAAAWWWWWWing when I saw the scene in the movie. I'm thinking it's because Rorschach was fleshed out as a slightly more sympathetic character in the movie, and Jackie Earl Haley illuminated that. Damnit, I love that man. Also... am I the only one that thinks JEHschach was actually quite attractive? I can't explain it. It must be his eyes.

120: Meyer always came off as some kind of woman-child to me. Like one that never gave up the SQUEE-fangirl sensibilities. I'm sure her heart's in the right place, but she always seems so immature.

129: So, basically...HURF HURF DURF NUFF OF THIS RASCISM REAL WORLD SHIT CAN IT BE PORN TEIM NAO? Please.

131: I comment if I actually have something to say. Sometimes it's hard for me to conjure up a compliment without it sounding like the same-old "lol cool". Faving is still a compliment at least. And I hate the whole "faved it for no reason" thing. Sometimes they simply liked the way it looked. You can't judge a person's reasons if you aren't the person themselves.

101. The opening credits were glorious.
102. Heh. Are you me? I loved Ozy as a character in a comic and much prefer him to the movie portrayal...but I have a mad crush on Moviemandias. He's not even my type! And yes, movie Ozy/Dan is kind of wonderful.
107. JEH and Crudup's acting made that scene damn powerful in the movie.
116. I wouldn't call Moviemandias a woobie, really--he's prettier, but comic Ozy seems somewhat more sympathetic to me. The interpretations of the characters are different enough that it doesn't bother me that people prefer one.
119. Background picture is win.
129. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of places where you can get the porn and ignore the meta.
142. Holy crap, he was in Spamalot? I didn't even know he sings!
158. But you'll also get kickass authors that just got into the fandom/are inspired by the movie. It's a tradeoff.
165. ...oh god, I can't even imagine a school edition.

116

[identity profile] matitablu.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
116. Thanks for saying this; I keep hearing people saying they found Moviemandias more sympathetic, but I think the comic version had this perpetual aura of melancholy that made you buy he wasn't just on some power trip. Idk, I don't dislike Moviemandias but I was able to connect with him emotionally only at the very end.

107. I can sympathize, Secret Poster, and I don't think it makes you a bad fan. As much as I love to read, I react much more strongly to sound and moving picture (my thoughts wander too much for a book's narration to be truly seamless in my head), and as a result movies and cartoons and whatnot tend to have a greater emotional impact on me. Either that, or since I can see it happening in front of me, it seems more "real" so to speak. Does that make any sense? xD; In a nutshell, though, I agree that the scene in the movie made me react far more than the one in the graphic novel.

111. I hear you there, Secret Poster. I've strongly suspected for a long time now that a lack of any close friendships whatsoever in my own life is why I love seeing such close friendships in fiction, especially things like those subtle ways they show they care, just as you mentioned . Living vicariously through the character's friendships, you could say. Come to think of it, prolly the same reason I love characters with "fatherly" personalities, too.

118. What if it's because there's no multiplayer? XD;; My bro and I couldn't work our tag team magic like we do in other Tales games, so it just wasn't quite the same, you know? It wasn't a bad game, mind, just lacking (also, not gonna lie, was not fond of the whole block puzzle room concept).

125. Y'know, that sounds vaguely like something I'd do. At the risk of sounding like a poor excuse for a xxxHOLiC fan (just don't wanna dig through the entire manga!), what's he cooking there?

144. Not with those specific fandoms, per se, but oh geez, I know how you feel 8|;

119. I'm the exact same way. I like having wallpapers on my computer for my various fandoms, but I always cover them up so that the people aren't looking at me because it freaks me out. Which is insane.

Also, if I'm reading a fanfic and I stop reading to listen to music or something, I have to cover up the character's names or I feel like they're watching me and judging me. Obviously I need to go make a tinfoil hat. XD;

What's with all the Tory Love at the moment? Did I miss a memo, because they're still the same sneering, intolerant, oily twats who fucked the country up throughout the 80s and 90s to me. BoJo seems harmless enough but he looks like a bloody Moomin and acts like the 'I'm Afraid I Was Very Drunk' man from The Fast Show.

(and yes, I know, I know, Labour are twonks too. I can barely tell the difference between them and the Bloody Bastard Tories any more.)

T!B2 I doubt that's really the reason why you started cutting. It may be the excuse you're using, but deep down, you wouldn't be self-harming if you didn't have deeper psychological problems.

101 A lot of people did.

107 I don't know, I felt like the movie version was more powerful. I guess Gibbons couldn't really portray the same emotion with his art (which is not to say to I don't like Gibbons' artwork, in fact, I really like it, but it just didn't work for this scene).

112 NOT. FANDOM.

114 I wish people would stop trying to compare a comic full of anthropomorphic countries with any and all sociopolitical/historical/geographical humor. IT'S NOT THE SAME THING.

121 YAY! HEATHERS SECRET!!

122 I could've made this secret.

127 I don't know who that guy is but he is fucking hot and has impeccable fashion sense.

155 Apparently that's Bruce Campbell's favorite role ever. And I also loved that show because it had Julius Carrey III in it as well. In fact, if I had money to burn, I'd go out and buy it right now.

[identity profile] henada.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
#101
I did too!! You're not alone!!

#107
I cried in the comic because I fucking love him, but in the movie it was so much more emotional. Dan and Laurie weren't getting it on by the pool, he had to beg Jon to do it, he whimpered . . . bawww, I'm getting all sad thinking about it. It was much more provocative in the movie. I cried harder. Don't feel bad.

101. It was gorgeous.

102. Ozymandias/Dr. Manhattan FTW :) And yeah, I can see why one would fall n love with Ozymandias.

107. JEH made Rorschach human, made us care about what happens to him. Because he is a brilliant actor. That's why that scene made a lot of people cry. Including me.

116. I think a lot of people liking Filmzymandias better has to do with him being gorgeous and beautiful by todays standards. He looks like the modern Ken-doll, and in Batman-esque costume even. Whereas in the GN he looks like 80s Ken doll that is not a cool look anymore.
