101 - i cried A LOT during the opening credits.
it was so riddled with emotion and nostalgia . . . it was amazing.

107 - i cried at both, but more in the gn, actually.

116 - it happens to the best of us.

102. Michael Goode is fucking hot, but he hasn't really changed my personal perception of Ozy. =/ I still think of him as the big chinned guy in the novel, lmfao.

107. I think it just had more of an impact in the movie, because I feel the same.

109. Holy crap I agree so hard! He has to keep the helmet on

Not only was a repeat, but the book was terrible IMHO. The names bugged the piss out of me too.

...yeah. Don't know if it's scream-inducing bad, but even with my seriously deficient understanding social understanding I can tell that's a faux pas.

Oh, SMeyer. You fail so hard. <3

I've experienced something like this...I first got involved in fandom years ago, with Smallville, and there was one writer in particular that came highly recc'd. I read her stuff and loved it because at the time it was some of the best stuff out there. But over the years, fanfic writers keep pushing the envelope as far as quality; the 'best' that fandom has to offer keeps getting better and better, I think. Now, that SV writer's stuff seems boring and bland to me, even a bit silly and melodramatic in spots, but it's not horrible, and once upon a time, it was exceptionally good compared to other things I'd read. This is all just 'in general' of course - there are old, fandom classics that still measure up to the highest standards of quality.

158

(Anonymous) 2009-03-15 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
158.) I don't care for Fan-Fiction (it bores me) but I am a huge Star Trek fan and the amount of clueless tweenie/otherwise Fangirls that are going to show up and turn Spock into the EMO MISUNDERSTOOD GUY is going to sky rocket. It's going to be worth the lols, esp if any of them try to go back watch the orginal series. I have this feeling that the movie is going to be Star Trek: 90210, anyway; and with J.J. Abrams invovled, I'm not expecting much. I await the Star Trek version of My Immortal, someone will do it, I bet my red shirt on it.

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
113. Oh Zuko. You really can be paired up with just about anyone and it is still delicious. Gotta confess tho I'd prefer Zuko with Toph. Because they are adorable together, more so than he and Katara.

117. As tragic as this is, I believe the point would have been made clearer in much fewer words... but what the hell, I can't be too mad about that when it's so stylish and you obviously need to vent about this. Sorry things turned out that way. Although you could always remember this, in Earthbound, even if the attack takes away all your HP, you're still not out until the numbers stop spinning?

130. Steel yourself, buddy. Unless you have already seen Transwarped and this advice reaches you too late.

133. Is that the one with a superpowered dude and Dakota Fanning?

135. Well at least when a weeaboo get's their hands on a Death Note and start killing off BNF's they don't like, you will be safe! Not a bad thing from my perspective.

139. ... And I actually think I must agree with you. Maybe it's just the lack of moustache but he seriously DOES look younger.

141. Oh my god I watched this crossover episode. DO NOT BE ASHAMED OF THIS. They are like the only beings on the planet who could ever tolerate each other for more than five minutes after all.

153. Wow. There is absolutely no way the writers are setting this up to go down in a spectacular trainwreck. I mean, an adorable, lovable and vulnerable young man together with an adorable, lovable young woman who seeks her true sexual identity? I am certain they will live happily forever and have puppies and kittens and babies.

161. Poor, poor Olive. 'S all I'm saying.

162. Huh. An anti-Obama movie? Going to have a tough time... that does make it interesting though. What's it about?

n!s 1. Good you found the smart people then!
n!s 2. Considering that crack cross-over pairings rarely, if ever, extend beyond the feverish mind making them up? I dare say you are.

It's not an anti-Obama film. It's just a piss-take of the advertising slogan. The guy on the poster is the Primeminister's 'fixer' and is known for his foul mouth and inventive swearing.

It's a political satire about a British Minister inadvertently setting the UK on course for a war in conjunction with a US general (played by James Gandolfini) and it's looking like it will be very funny. The trailer is here.

137. Aww Neopets! I really do wonder what happened to a lot of my Neo friends. There were some really sweet people on there but I guess they just procrastinating replies until one day they lost interest.

138. To me they wouldn't have made sense as a couple, but I still love them. I was a fan of Joey/Rachel.

141. Nah. You should see the Will Ferrell characters making out in my head.

122, I feel that way a lot of the time too. but fuck it, writing just for the sake of writing is never a bad thing.

123, write it anyway. At this point there is truly no such thing as an idea that hasn't been done before, and this is a memoir, it's part of you, so as long as you feel it it can still be great. if it gets published and makes some money it'll probably get comparisons to AD, but hey, it's an awesome show and there are way worse things to be likened with.

124, write it! I'd read it.

139, that's AWESOME.

146. WOO CLASSIC!SHIPPING, YAY. XD

153. I hear you but I liked it anyway. I'll never ship it but I thought it worked, because I didn't think it was a pity thing so much as just platonic sex between friends. I've done it and I think a lot of people have done it and the fact that she's a lesbian didn't throw a wrench into it for me because you can fuck someone without even particularly wanting them sexually, just because you feel like doing it at the time. if I saw it as a pity fuck I'd hate it too, but I really didn't.

158, crap. I hadn't even thought of that, I'd been looking forward to it because of the awesome casting and dreading it just because it doesn't look all that Trekky at all (and because seriously if Kirk and Spock aren't gay enough - not even all-out gay, but just gay enough - the movie will have failed for me even if everything else gets done right). but now there's that too =(

and all the Watchmen secrets make me happy in my comic-book-nerdy little heart.

OMG!

No. I slogged through the main story just to get to the character arcs, and even though I LOVED the development and stories of their own, the battle system SUCKED. I'm a glutton for punishment (beat Odin Sphere on Heroic mode, and took me weeks to do so), but Legendia? Just terrible in the games department, and until Shirley becomes the Merines I didn't find the story interesting at all.

Also, Shirley? Fuck Shirley. Give me her sister any day. [/rage]

I feel for you, OP. I'm someone who likes to join discussions, and stupidly, I guess, I sometimes make the mistake of thinking that if I present my viewpoint respectfully and diplomatically that people will either allow me to have that viewpoint in peace, or present their opposing viewpoint with an equal amount of respect. Wrong. Even though I generally choose someone who shares my opinion and comment in agreement with that person, it seems to always cause someone to jump in and make it their mission to beat me into submission, lol. I've learned to see the humor in it (because really, the batshit fans are kind of funny if you think about it!) and move on. Like that first person who responded to your secret here -- all the anger and hostility! And over something as small and simple as someone wishing people would behave more maturely in fandom. lol

110 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-16 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
You're the second person who didn't miss the whole point of my post and I want to let you know just how much I am very grateful for that.

I'm not whining or crying about fandom. I'm saying that what ever happened to freely expressing one's opinion and if someone were to disagree to it, refute the opinion respectfully?

It's like there's a freakin' Gestapo in every fandom. The moment you say something negative, you get immediately flamed, criticized, whatever it is that they do.

I thought fandom was a place where you can meet other people or at least one person who shares your viewpoint. And yes, the batshit fans are kind of funny but at the same time, I wonder just how far is too far when it comes to fans beating other fans into submission just because they disagree?

[identity profile] hikari-cyhan.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
114. ...They probably would.
118. I agree and disagree. Legendia had the potential to be awesome, but it fell really, really far short because it was handled so poorly. In every way except the music, it was like a step down from Abyss.
120. woefijoiwejfoiew another Shannon Hale fan *A*
135. I don't blame you. I keep my fandom and RL personas as separate as possible, though I still talk to some of my fandom friends on the phone and stuff. But then, I have an aunt who once hired a PI to look up the family online, and over break I got a Facebook stalker from my school who dug through Google to get my LJ. Being paranoid about it isn't a bad thing.
144. That's a pretty lame reason to not get into Avatar or FMA. Both series are amazing (well, the FMA manga is), but you'd rather miss out.

118 ignore that fail and then the further fail

102 & 116. I'm the complete opposite to the sentiments in these secrets. I liked his character (ambiguous morals and all) in the comic but something about the portrayal in the film was really off for me. I just couldn't like it at all.

107. It moved me more in the film than in the comic. In the comic his death is so sudden and understated but there was an added emotional charge in the film. I am against the decision to let Dan witness it however.

Oh man, Watchmen secrets.

102. Hmm, I don't know how I feel about this. Ozymandias in the comic is my secret Watchmen favorite besides Rorschach (Ozy's a secret because book fans seem to loooove Rorschach and hate Ozy). Comic Ozy is such a fascinating character and I'm a bit sad if people only like him because he's attractive in that generic fandom pretty boy way. I guess I'm taking it too seriously, I mean, who cares?

On the other hand, while I think the movie script did a very poor job with Ozy, I have to like Matthew Goode. I can't dislike someone who ships Ozy/Rorschach and has such charming weird ideas about his character in general. His interviews are great. If I shipped anything with him I'd ship Ozy/Dr. Manhattan too, Ozy/Dan is kind of bleh to me (Dan is kind of bleh...don't hit me!).
