I'm gonna guess not many people, since that's only round 1 of the elections and it's unlikely a far-right candidate gets over 50% of the vote right off the bat

It's only the primary. And Macron is still projected to win.

But you clearly have such a clear grasp of the politics in France so I guess I should be very afraid.

Do you ever feel like you're cursed? Like every decision you make is the wrong one, whether you painstakingly research it or go by your gut it will still fuck you over in extreme and unpredictable ways.

Because I'm starting to feel this way.

I'm in a bad place mentally. I asked my primary for a referral to a psychiatrist. The problem is, the psychiatrist doesn't have an appointment until June. I get that psychiatrists are busy doctors. But still really frustrating when I'm mentally not good and really need to get my meds adjusted sooner than that.

Got a call from the vets this morning saying that someone had found our cat in their garden after apparently being hit by a car. He was conscious but cold and going into shock. While on the way out the door they called again to say that after doing x-rays there was nothing they could do, he was too far gone and that we were basically coming in to say goodbye.

I'm trying to find practical things to do like put together all our photos of him and order a nice frame to put that in but I can't do it for crying. I had to call my new job to say I couldn't make it in, I've only been there a few days and I'm terrified they'll be upset with me for letting them down already.

The house just feels so empty and weird tonight. I miss him so much.

I can't help but be pissed off at things I can't control. It still hurts my feelings people don't show up for me. It still hurts my feelings that those who I thought would be happy for me...aren't happy for me. It makes me mad when they can't ever be present for me, but they want me around because I am capable of being present for them. Fuck you, dude.

I wish I wasn't so obsessed with my weight. It wasn't a thing until I began losing weight and that wasn't intentional. Fuck society and the deathgrip fatphobia has on us.

I wish people would stop reccing me things to watch or read. My mental space can't handle so much stuff. Can we talk to each other without it always being about a show or movie or series everyone is into? Doesn't help that 98% of media now is mediocre at best so I can't even be like "HATED IT". More like, "Wow, thanks for wasting another 5~ hours of my time on yet another bland and boring thing that I don't get why everyone else is jizzing themselves over."

IDK man, am I the socially inept one or are the people I'm surrounded by the socially inept ones? Do we just not know how to engage anymore?

This is really petty of me, but I belong to a local women's group on FB that can be a nice place to ask questions about anything. But what bugs me is that sometimes, a person will want [a specific item], for free. And they don't want to come out and say, "I'm looking for a [thing]" or whatever, they sidle up to it and ask if anyone happens to have any [stuff] they're looking to get rid of or something. And someone will inevitably respond and say, sure, $20 and it's yours and the original person will come over all bashful, like ohhhhh, I don't have any money or I was hoping that someone would randomly be giving away free stuff and hey, do you deliver?

Which is fine if it's something small, but sometimes it isn't. It doesn't quite reach r/choosingbeggars level, but it happens ALL THE TIME. Ugh, just come out and say you don't want to pay for whatever it is you want, already.

Trying to get on the property ladder at the grand old age of mid-30s and fucking hate it. We're doing this out of necessity because our landlord is kicking us out later this year and sadly mortgage repayments are a good £2-300 cheaper than rent, so we thought we may as well go for it between our savings and parents helping us out (which I REALLY didn't want but needs must, I am over people making my generation feel bad for needing assistance with this shit.)

We bid on a flat last week and bid £20K over the asking price, which was already high meaning it was a REACH for the area we're in. 6th out of 8 bids. Hard not to think...fuck this. Our solicitor even said we were being sensible keeping our bid as low as we did because "you'll never get that money back" - but apparently at least five other people/couples had a stupid amount of extra cash lying around and didn't give a shit. Sigh.

I'm going to barricade my house with chicken wire because neighbouring pigeons fly inside my bedroom if I leave my window open and unattended. (Teeny tiny rowhouse, big city, I'm talking flying rats, not fancy country pigeons.)

Inspired by a David Cronenberg marathon last night.

I don't know if he's necessarily my favorite but I like him enough to have seen 14 of his films.

I envy people who know director/writer names lol. I don't think I could tell you who wrote or directed like... any film I've ever seen.

I guess probably Spielberg. I haven't liked many of his more recent movies, although West Side Story was great. But he's an amazing director and I do love his style.

I have seen 32 of his films.

It's hard to pick just one.

I’ve only seen maybe 8 or 9 of his films, but I love Cronenberg’s particular brand of creepy menace. He’s got such a great aesthetic sense of the grotesque paired with emotional tension. It’s uncomfortable in a way I really enjoy.

In contrast, I can’t deal at all with David Lynch’s brand of creepy menace. I just can’t stand it.

I don’t think I’ve seen the majority of films for any director I love, so I’m not sure about the second question. But to answer the first:

Steven Spielberg
Stanley Kubrick
Jean Cocteau
Christopher Nolan
Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli(if we’re counting studios)
Mamoru Oshii
Mamoru Hosoda
Makoto Shinkai
Quentin Tarantino

I like a lot of Paul Verhoeven, Ang Lee and Ridley Scott movies, but idk if they’re my favorites
And I’ve loved some Martin Scorsese movies, but I don’t like crime films that much, so a lot of his movies don’t interest me. He’s still great though.
I like horror, but I don’t think there’s any directors I’d single out as favorites there, besides maybe George Romero. The two Takashis: Takashi Shimizu & Takashi Miike have made some great horror films I’ve loved, same with John Carpenter, but they’ve also made a lot I didn’t like, so I’m torn.

This is hard question for me, apparently lol!
