I see a lot of people going on about antis, but I rarely see the thing they are complaining about.

I feel like you are lucky, OP. They are definitely a thing in fandom. I admit, in most of my fandoms, it doesn't come up, especially if most fannish output/discussion/interest is G/T-rated. But like... in certain fandoms, you literally need to use proship/anti as a litmus test before joining spaces or interacting with people because both sides are sizable and they cannot share spaces with each other because one side is basically constantly leveling serious accusations of harm and abuse at the fans on the other side based on their fiction output or favorite ships, and so for some fandoms, you definitely notice the proship/anti camps because it's impossible to avoid. Of the fandoms I've personally been in, Star Trek has been the most awful for this, and from my friends' fandoms, I know that Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuri on Ice, and Genshin Impact also have huge anti/proship camps.

These people are definitely out there and they're incredibly noxious. I think people exaggerate how prevalent they are a little bit, and I think it's not necessarily *that* hard to avoid them if you try. But it's a real thing.

It’s easy to think of antis as common because they think of themselves as common. They like to claim they’re “normal” and any “normal” person would agree with them, even when they’re saying shit most people would be baffled by.

This seems like an ideal opening to provide links. Or screenshots. Or some of both. Hey, people who see far more of antis than you want to, what's the worst thing you came across recently?

I guess because F!S has a policy against direct, named callouts, imgur screenshots with the username whited out would be preferable to direct links to specific posts. But I'm guessing there are also fandoms where browsing the ship tag gets you the dumpster fire, without singling out any specific anti..

Oh, and if people have vicious dogpiling in their anon asks, that applies, too.

The thing I've seen through fandom osmosis recently is that James/Regulus shippers on Tumblr were apparently having so much trouble with antis that they decided to post nothing fandom related last month and are hosting a darkfic fest all of this month called Dead Dove December.

I ran into it with no idea who was doing it or why, and was psyched to see a themed fic-posting effort that runs through the winter holidays and isn't syrupy and sentimental. I don't write anything with James' clique (not my thing), but I don't think they're limiting what characters the darkfic is supposed to be about at all, so I'm thinking of contributing something to the AO3 collection.

Eh, as long as they aren't going out of their way to be dicks about it, or hypocritical, I don't mind. There are ETL pairings that I don't care for myself. Add to that that us Reylo fans are whipping boys for a lot of different groups and I can understand not wanting the association.
