Nobody's saying you aren't allowed to your own thoughts and feelings and opinions on the matter. If the age difference between two consenting adults bothers you, then it bothers you.

But that's really nobody's problem but yours.

Am I going to go looking for someone in their mid twenties? No
Am I going to say no to someone suitable just because they are in their mid twenties? Also no
Is it going to be way less likely, proportionately, for someone in their mid twenties
to be mature enough to be suitable than someone in their 30s/40s? Yes
Are people in their 30s/40s full of immature adult children you wouldn't want to date anyway though? Also yes, so it's not like their age necessarily makes it better

People still in school or with parents and without some years of real life experience living as adults are just out, though. Nope. It's hard to put a firm age range on that because some people begin living as adults much sooner than others and other people stay in school or with parents much longer than others. 'Mid twenties' is sketchy because it could skew young but '25+' I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt because exceptions are common enough

What I don’t get is the women who date DiCaprio at this point. I mean, they have to know he’s gonna dump them when they get “too old.” And some of them were already successful and could clearly snag a better man if they wanted.

The problem isn't that people are squicked by this particular pairing due to its age difference or whatever else.

The problem is that people are passing moral judgements on the age gap as if a 26-year-old woman isn't a perfectly consenting fully-grown adult.

Most people look at an age gap like that, think it's a bit weird or squicky or whatever else, then accept it's none of their damn business what a woman closer to 30 than 20 does with her life, and move on with theirs. You, like everyone else clutching pearls about this, has to jump onto a public platform and call for everyone else to join you in your moral outrage.

Demanding "40-somethings on FS, would you date someone in their mid-20s?" isn't you 'cringing when a 42-year-old marries a 26-year-old', it's you passing moral judgement on them and then going out into a public space and calling for others to pass judgement along with you.

Chris Pratt abandoned his wife and children to marry someone else, and then proceeded to ignore the existence of his previous family on social media. All while claiming to be super Christian. His ex wife is also very well liked both as a well established actress and as a person, so people were upset on her behalf. That's the difference mainly?

While I was thinking about this, I realized that I’m 30 and my celebrity crush is 55. So I asked myself, if I heard about him marrying a 30-year-old, would I think it was kinda weird?

Look, do I side-eye it slightly? Sure, but it's none of my business and I really don't care. But damn, couples with age gaps can legitimately be in love, not everyone is working an angle all the time. It needs the same navigation as any relationship where parties come from different perspectives (differing cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, etc)--communication and respect.

Also, she's 26 years old, she's not some young waif with the apron strings just barely cut who surely *must* be thinking with starry-eyed teen adolescence and not, you know, with the rational brain of an adult.

I'm a few years older than Evans and I cannot imagine getting into a long term relationship with someone that age. Are people in their mid-twenties attractive? Sure. Would I be up for a consensual fling? Maybe. But speaking for myself, I don't think I'd be able to relate to someone that young, and I'm not a particularly mature fuddy duddy or anything. It's just... 26 is very young, emotionally and in terms of experience. I don't think I was a full fledged adult who understood myself and other people until I was at least 30+, but when I was 26, I sure thought I did!

If I were a lot further along in my career AND I had way more money than them, I'd feel even more uncomfortable about the relationship imbalance. But then, I'm a woman. IME, men are far more comfortable with that type of imbalance. Some men even prefer it.

I roll my eyes whenever I see yet another 40-something Hollywood dude date or marry a 20-something woman, because it's absolutely a pattern for men in that industry, but at the same time I don't care enough to do more than side-eye a bit before carrying on with my day.

They can do what they want, but I'm also really not going to be surprised if it ends in a couple of years. Either way, don't really care.

Honestly, as a woman in my late 30s, the biggest reason I probably wouldn't date someone a lot younger than me is because maintaining/cultivating a degree of equanimity about my physical appearance and physical aging is already hard enough. The LAST thing I need is a much younger boyfriend whose presence in my life would undoubtedly make the struggle to not feel deeply insecure about aging twice as hard as it already is.

Yes, obviously maturity matters too. But I've known twenty-somethings whose maturity kind of humbles me to this day, and I've known fifty-somethings who had the maturity of teenagers. The correlation between increased age and increased maturity exists, but it's a matter of probabilities, not a guarantee.

You’re not wrong. I get why he wouldn’t have wanted to dwell on it, given that he planned for Holmes’ death to be the end of it all and never expected to have to write a reunion with Watson, but yeah, it kind of pushes that “Victorian emotional repression” to a ridiculous level.

I have many complaints about the BBC Sherlock series, but John punching Sherlock when he returns was a nice touch.
