I just dropped out the fandom when I realized the way the series was going because oh boy, you absolutely cannot hate the dogshit writing unless you're actually secretly sexist about Jodie Whittaker's bland as flour acting.

I feel like every fandom I've been in for the last decade has involved a sense that you're not supposed to say anything negative, lest you be seen as judging or trying to start wank, and I honestly find it so stifling.

YKINMKATIOK? Absolutely! Taste is subjective? It sure is!

But positive opinions (both my own and other people's) feel way less meaningful and engaging to me if they don't coexist with negative ones. And it's fine if other people don't feel that way, and prefer to just be positive, but I wish it didn't feel borderline taboo in so many fandoms to want to express negative opinions sometimes.

I want to see what modern fandom thinks of the Sime-Gen series. It’s about tentacled people who need to eat your life energy to survive, and if you panic the energy drain kills you and they get addicted to killing, but if you’re unafraid, it’s like sex.

Both of those pixel characters look like they could be 12 if you told me they were 12, or 21 if you told me they were 21. I just believe a character is whatever age canon says they are, and it's only weird if their personality REALLY jarringly contradicts their supposed age (just being immature in a general sense doesn't count; immature adults are common).
