When watching Law and Order SVU, I get angrier at the female assailants who victimize or participate in victimizing other women.

I mean, OP, is that a sign of good or bad writing? since from the beginning, everyone sort of assumed SVU was going to be 'woman gets SA'd, cries to the cops, man gets comeuppance' and then they flipped the script repeatedly to show a lot more nuance. At least, with the better-written seasons...

we've made it to season 21, (tangentially, I'm kind of fascinated by the fictional representation of the pandemic era), but I've also realized that somehow, the worst writing is the season opens and closes. The mid-season regular cases are better-structured and have more quality nuance and interesting twists. It's a show that really doesn't know what it wants at any turn and there's too many real-life cases to riff off of, they aren't always careful about how to handle that. But I'll be here for grandma Olivia and grandpa Fin forever, I think.

I was thinking about it on my bus to work and realized all over again that Voldemort is really dumb and doesn't actually make sense. Like he's supposed to be an evil Dark Lord, okay, and he had a Dark Army except that during GoF it actually turned out that his "dark army" was actually just a bunch of skinheads that he recruited out of his graduating class. How the hell did he manage to dominate the UK when he only had like 20 people at best? I know that he was supposed to have dark creatures like Dementors and Inferi and shit but we only glimpse them a few times during DH don't we?

It really just feels like Voldemort was the washed up leader of a defunct street gang whose members had since moved on and gone respectable. Yeah yeah magic tattoos that go ouchie when he touches them but I just can't bring myself to believe that one guy and a bunch of middle aged wizard managers oppressed an entire country for 8 months.

I think you can just add this onto the pile of stuff that just doesn't make sense or work together in HP because once you start picking at the narrative it all falls apart pretty swiftly. A strong foundation it does not have.

Never underestimate the number of folks who are either fine with other people suffering, THRILLED with other people suffering, or would rather bury their heads in the sand pretending other people aren't suffering. It's quite easy to take over a place if enough folks are checked out/in denial (and yes, I understand some folks have their reasons and they're often tied to survival). There's a reason there are so many quote variations of the idea that being neutral in situations where there is a clear oppressor only helps the oppressor.

i remember being shocked when gof came out because his circle of death eaters was less than 40 people total. but i think those were just the closest/"most loyal" people to him, and i assumed there were others who joined who were less official, or participated out of fear.

i have nothing against non-con as kink / porn or in kink / porn fic

non-con used as plot / relationship drivers in serious fic bores me to death though

cheapest, easiest, laziest way to cause drama and make antagonists pure evil without having to give them any other character traits, or make the love interest the default choice since they're the only character in the world who gives a shit about consent

i dont really get at all how some people consider a) shipping 2 blood relations that were family their whole lives, and b) shipping 2 step-siblings or step-parents/children that only met as adults or near adults, as the same kink

neither are my personal kink. i just find it confusing when people treat them as one thing because they are so obviously different to me

I can't help but feel that any fic tagged with 'poc character' is inherently racist.
Worst is the "canon poc character" tag. It's so useless that it almost comes across as if they mean it as a warning.

B.S. I couldn't read a single Leverage fic since nearly every one had "poc Alec Hardison" as a tag. It turned me off immediately.

I find the Music video "Ghosts" by Michael Jackson to be disturbing, especially the scenes where the Maestro (played by MJ) posseses the Mayor's body by turning himself into liquid and pours himself the Mayors thoat. As well as the scene where he tricks the Mayor into falling to his death. All because the Mayor didn't want Maestro secretly meeting up with kids and showing them "tricks" in secret

... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and while I'm definitely not the world's greatest expert at secret design, I'll try my best. Please note that long comment secrets can be difficult to make with a good end result. Most of the time, I'll give it a shot but might not be able to make secrets where the text is so lengthy that I can't fit it into the limited space.

I'm trying something new with the comment secret thread and extending the deadline to comment until Monday's post goes up. I'll monitor this thread until then, and hope the extra day will be more helpful for everyone.

I love villains. But the instant we're supposed to root for a villain or a villainous character just because there is someone more evil, I lose interest. Darth Maul in Episode 1? Yes, please. Darth Maul coming back as a crime lord? No thank you.
