Lol, this. I don't know how anyone cannot notice that it sounds totally different when you pronounce it and that it's a DIFFERENT WORD!

Seconding (thirding?) the suggestion to join Groups on DA. If it doesn't exist for your fandom specifically, you could start one, or find one where your art fits in thematically (since they're not all fandom based).

And don't worry, lots of really skilled folks don't get a lot of views/comments either.

Speaking of...

Not even the series takes itself as seriously as the fans do. It's just a silly comic, and I don't see how people claim you have to be a Historian to enjoy it. It's not even accurate, why is there so many elitism in this fandom?

I hail from the lower class - better yet, Southern lower class and generations of it - and FCC regs make me go :/ with a side of D:

We swear. All. The time. The only time someone doesn't swear is either in front of their mother or in front of their clergy. And even then, both mothers and preachers swear, so.

My family moved up in the world, and I was just stuck in school with a bunch of people who had no idea what it was really like 'out there' and who were scandalized that I say 'fuck' all the time.

Okay. I've just spent a while retyping this comment so it sounds less wanky, but please tell me that you understand that what you are practising is straight-up, unambiguous misogyny? Saying you can't POSSIBLY write about female protagonists, it just CANNOT BE DONE, so you'll be using them as side characters for your male characters if at all...even if you believe wholeheartedly that this is your only option (which I believe it isn't) can't you see that the result is active, complete sexism?

Going back to what you said originally: I would like to write about more female characters, myself, and every time I start a story I think to myself, "Would this story work the way I wanted it to if the main character were female instead of male?" I don't understand why 'male main character' is the starting point and 'female character' is a possible 'instead of'. Why not start with 'main character' and take it from there? Why not flip a coin before starting?

I love Casablanca! I want a Bogart icon now.

Any reason to name a car Serenity is a good reason as far as I'm concerned. :)

I honestly don't care what your opinion is of me. I find the fact that you've stopped trying to support your debate and have instead turned to attacking me personally extremely pathetic on your part.

I think you're the one that needs to go "cry to mommy".

[identity profile] iiiskaaa.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
What can I say? This person managed to combine in her childhood sex fantasy two of the very, very few kinks that genuinely squick me. I salute her for getting me to react to a fandom sex fantasy secret in any way other that "Hell yeah" or "LOL."

The bastardized version of The Pink Panther maybe?

Kamek is a father figure to Bowser, it sounds like incest!

[identity profile] caelith.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
As I said, of no consequence. If you had any intelligence, you wouldn't have used the term 'fag'.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think they were actually married, so. You aren't alone.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
No, you're reading the secret wrong. OP admires the people who are confident enough to post their art despite its flaws. You cannot say that the image used is a stunning example of perfect anatomical proportions. It's a good picture, but it's mediocre and needs improvement. But good for the artist anyway for putting him/herself out there.

[identity profile] evatheninja.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I hate how most men can't take women's sports seriously, or watch without commenting on the player's looks. I'm a girl, and I play ice hockey, and I'm tired of hearing about how its not a real sport and how we're all fat dykes.

[identity profile] silvercoindrive.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
This whole discussion cracks me up.

A mutual relationship CAN happen in fan intepretations (a REAAAAAAALLLLLY good fanfic author can make anything realistic), but I don't see Bowser turning a new leaf for anyone.

If anything, a mutual bonding between Peach and Bowser would be extremely awkward. Peach will keep baking cakes, Bowser will keep being a jackass, and they would oftentimes bicker like a dysfunctional married couple.

Bowser is good at this. He was totally like that with Chippy in Bowser's Inside Story.

Anyone remember that?

btw I ship Bowser and Chippy!

I think you're referring to the J2 fic rather than the Pinto fic that's being referred to in this secret?

In my fic the only major characters were the two white guys so while there was no 'gibbering', it effectively used the non-white characters to as plot support for the white ones. (obviously part of the inherent problem with these fics is that fans tend to either frown on or be bored by OCs. solution; write about the canon non-white characters more.)

There was no negative attention. We're a small fandom. I've never seen canon (Metal Gear) get much flak for its racism either. I really want to start a conversation about racism, and especially colonialism, in canon but I have been saying this for about a year now and still haven't done anything. :/ I think J-fandoms don't hold their canons to the same high standards as Western fandoms because it's like we take it for granted that the Japanese people who write our stuff are often horrifically colonialist and racist - if anything, ours is rare in that there are some really great major characters who aren't either white, Asian, or a mixture of the two, but there is a LOT of spectacular canonfail and I don't know if, should I make a post about it, I'd be preaching to the choir or what.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Did I say fucking?

I think it's weird that they try to portray (moreso in Ponyo) an everlasting, romantic love for children. I don't think only old people can fall in love, but that's weird that they put so much responsibility on children to understand a complex emotion like love.

[identity profile] nothingissoundd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen anybody who thinks like that, but for those who do, that's completely stupid.

The boys are out there, but I mostly assume that you're a girl until you say otehrwise. And I'll promptly forget the next time I see you around cause bad memory yay.

The conventions I went to there were men there but it was so few it was rather funny. Even the guests had a few jokes at it.

'Course, most of the guys at those cons seemed to be Jedi Master Chefs.

I was literally in the same boat as you, anon. I saw it opening night at midnight when I had already promised to see it with other people a few days later. The end left me in shambles, so badly I cried myself to sleep. I wasn't sure if i could watch it again.

But then about 6 days later I saw it again, with other people. Seeing it again really helped and now I'm not a wreck. It helped ALOT.

Don't feel bad/weird, I'm right there with you.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
If you had any intelligence, you would understand that the word 'fag' has developed a meaning separate from an insult towards homosexuals, a bundle of sticks, or a cigarette. You could even say it has, as you like to put it, become synonymous with being a "useless fuckwit".

I think we have strayed a little off-topic here. Getting back on track, I would genuinely like you to explain why you think OP is a hypocrite.
