Ok, since on the anime/manga platform I'm, on people are working on getting 1000 origami cranes together, spamming everyone's f-lists with their blog posts about them and some even cancelled their plans to go to the book fair this weekend, because they felt they didn't have a right to "live in decadency" or sth like that, while Japan has some huge problems going on..............

... I'm not THAT shocked about seeing such a secret.

I get how you want to do something, so you don't feel so helpless, watching the news about what's happening over there from idontknowhowfaraway.
It's cool how you want to express your support and everything.

But it bugs me a bit, how you make it sound, as if playing around with Vocaloids would really actually help the Japanese people. In a practical way, like, rebuilding their homes and stuff, I mean.
Also, but that might just be me, they seem to have their "spirit" together, acting as calm and rational as you can in such a situation, from what I've heard.

IA. Maybe it's because I'm jaded, but I had an ex-fandom friend who turned out to be a super creep and lied about their personal information and identity just to be "buddy buddy" with me. I still get the willies thinking about it.

OP, instead of going through all these lengths of pretending to be someone you're not, send a damn PM. If they don't respond back to it, it's a sign you need to move on.

I don't want to sound harsh, but really...

This. Moffat goes for plot over characterization and emotional resonance, which are the two things I NEED to have in a show - the plot can go to hell for all I care.

Like, I like Eleven, adore Rory, and am fine with Amy, but mostly, I just don't really care what happens, which is different with how I felt about the characters in S1-S4, because I was so invested in those characters.

I'm hoping it's better in S6.

[identity profile] micromyni.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
...People actually SAID THAT?!

[identity profile] animedutchess.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I understand where you're coming from, OP. Fic/art/roleplay of this is just not cool, and unfortunately, not everyone uses their brain, even when living in an age during a serious situation like this. We can chalk it up to dumb fans and argue and bean them in the face, or we can tell them what they're doing wrong, hope they learn their lesson, and focus on trying to help Japan in any way we can - no matter our fandom.

I will say that some of the fandom IS sane, and is keeping up with the news and respecting the wishes of the Japanese fandom to not dick around like that with fanstuff (someone posted the opinions on Pixiv, and it's been spread around to make sure everyone gets the message, I wish I had the link on me).

If worse comes to worse, go up to your fandom "friends" and explain how their actions are making you feel. If they have any sense, they'll realize what they've done.

Also, do you have any relatives over there right now? Are they okay? I'm sorry, you don't know me, but I legitimately worry.

HETALIA THREW MY CAR INTO THE SUN AND PISSED ON MY GRANDMOTHER

IT'S THE SOURCE OF ALLLLL EVILLLLLLL

(Anonymous) 2011-03-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Who is Amy Pond? I don't know yet, so i don't like or dislike her she's just a meh character to me, won't miss her when she's gone.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't make sense to me either. I can sorta get it in an OT3, but not one-on-one.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
OP says in the very beginning that many people in the Hetalia fandom were concerned about them and never brought Hetalia up to them.

Mentions a girl and a fandom friend that were inconsiderate asses to her.

And people conclude that all the fandom is a evil heartless bastard?

While I was reading this I thought of a certain friend I had with someone in my old fandom except our story went differently. I was on the other side, feeling like she abandoned me. It was bad enough that I was trying desperately to still like the fandom we shared, only to find later on that she was still updating her journal but filtering me through every single one (and till this day, year after I completely abandoned my old account she's still filtering me from her new posts. Actually, I don't even see some of the other entries that originally were viewable by me - wth? whatever-) I don't even know what prompted this sudden disconnection. I don't recall any arguments or conflicts. So I confess that while reading this secret I was half-hoping you were that friend trying to find me in the new fandom that's giving me joy, but sorry our stories don't match. :( I'm still happily in my new fandom under a new name and she's still posting her fanfiction daily and posting in her personal journal (which filters me out of it.)

I cannot think of emailing her after all this time. The idea just seems so awkward so kudos to you for trying it. I don't think I could have handled rejection from someone I held such high opinion to.

In the end I decided not to let her actions bother me too much. As others have already stated, people change. Also, sometimes a friendship was meant to happen and meant to end. Maybe you were meant to learn something with this friend, and after you learned this life lesson then you are meant to move on. I am glad that the last time this fandom friend and I spoke we were both on good terms with each other and both loved each other as sisters. I would rather the memory of that friendship not be stained by fights or drama. I learned a lot from her, and I celebrate that and don't think too much on the awkwardness of how she walled me out of her life. I understand how you feel, and it sucks how things turned out for you, but maybe this friendship was best to end where it did, on a positive note. We may pine for those happy days, but things change and maybe this isn't meant to be. I hope you enjoy your new fandom. :)

"Why does a work have to have 'strong' female characters in order to be valid?"
Not "valid", just "enjoyable", which is subjective. Some people like fiction with strong female characters. Some people only like stories if they have comedy in them, or action, or romance, or drama. It's the same thing- a bit more socially/politically rooted, but still the same concept. Nothing wrong with people wanting what they want in a story. Also, those people tend to enjoy the things they criticize for lack of strong female characters otherwise; there's always something that could be better about any good thing and that's kind of the point of fandom: to discuss a series/movie/show/whatever, good parts and bad. What I'm trying to say in a rambling fashion that lack of strong female characters rarely ruins the validity of a work for the people who use the Bechdel test.

I haven't watched the anime (I didn't even know there was one until I saw this), and I haven't gotten much farther than Nitori hacking hir hair off and swearing off crossdressing. But I know what you mean. I was identifying with Takatsuki a lot during this part of the manga, when it was unclear whether ze wanted to really be a boy or just didn't want to be a girl.

I don't think that it's wrong to want to find someone to identify with, and I certainly don't see why the Trans community, or friends and allies of the Trans community, would tell you that it's not okay to say that the gender pronouns fandom is using makes you feel uncomfortable and alienated. And it bothers me that it has to be a secret, that this is something that we can only say anonymously.

In other fandoms (Phoenix Wright, Digimon, Gundam Wing, for example), I've seen people genderbend characters for the sake of a story. You know, saying things like, "I'd like to see this plot carried out with X as a girl," or "How would their relationship be different if Y was a boy?" I guess I'm just disappointed to learn that the Transient Son fandom isn't more understanding.

THIS. is exactly why I liked RTD's writing more and could never hop onto the Moffat bandwagon, I just couldn't ever make as much of a connection to the characters since they just weren't as developed as Rusty's.

...

So much second-hand embarrassment right now.

[identity profile] dancingcarrot21.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT PICTURE?

Seriously, source for that please! And I adore James/Sirius. It was my first slash ship ever <3.

This sounds like the plot of Down with Love.

(Can someone tell me what series this is? I've been meaning to check it out. Thank you.)

I used to listen to his music a lot when I was thirteen. I never thought about the message of his words and how it effected women and men. My mom hated and I thought it was because she didn't understand.

But I'm sorry, his music is flat out sexist and homophobic.

"...or these bitches on my dick,
that's how dudes be getting sick, that's how dicks be getting drips, falling victims to this
shit, from these bitches on our dicks..." (Drips, Eminem Show)

How is that not sexist? He blames women for a lot of things, slut-shames, throws the F-word around (no I do not mean fuck, I mean the derogatory term used to refer to gay men), oh but he doesn't say the N-word so let's all applaud him.

Yes, he's a talented rapper, but in the end his lyrics are still sexist and homophic and incredibly damaging.

Leaving this here 'cause I just woke up from a nap and don't have the energy to keep talking about this: http://www.jacksonkatz.com/eminem2.html

They must have been American fans.

This.

The Marauder era is so tragic. I'm with you in that I ship R/S, but I can see why the OP would ship James/Sirius. The whole best friends thing is always appealing.

Hey, yeah, new fandom. Not all bad. I used to do this with music friends liked.

There have been songs posted, and a movement to produce a #helpjapan twitter tag (http://www.helpjapan.jp) and nicotag (http://www.nicovideo.jp/tag/%23prayforjapan) for #prayjapan, both to raise awareness of the best way to get aid to people and to raise people's spirits in the wake of the damage. The movement is massive and has been followed closely by people in Japan as a source of comfort; donating is still the best way to send raw help to the region, but no-one is turning down good feeling either.

That said, right now I'm personally of the opinion that nico needs every drop of bandwidth it can for live broadcasts of news and the dissemination of information, so I've been trying not to hammer it. [livejournal.com profile] singing_robots took the week off both out of respect and the desire to honour that.
