that is how TW has come to be used in fandom. People use it to warn for all sorts of content.

And that's part of the problem. It gives more ammo to the people who don't take triggers seriously, when people doing the actual warning confuse "trigger" with "things people are uncomfortable discussing."

Adding to the increasing pile of 'Good luck's! <3

Wow her new design SUCKS ASS.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What part of "abortion can be an actual trigger" are you dismissive assholes not getting?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't like BBC's Sherlock (the character). I prefer to watch a show with a main character I actually like and want to succeed, instead of one where, every time someone upstages them, I go "YES take that you bastard".

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This movie makes me cry like a baby, it's precious.

Just got hit by a huge wave of nostalgia just now. <3

"Being in a relationship with someone "normal" makes the "messy" one even more messed up in the long run."
Eeeh, what? Sorry, that sounds arrogant and kinda unresponsible to me.
I don't know in which way this character is messed up, but why should "normality" mess er up?
Because it confronts her with their differences? Is that always a bad thing?
She doesn't have to chance if she doesn't want to.

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
THIIIIIIIS.

[identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree 100%, OP. I could've written the same secret.

Wow, lots of people in this thread jumping to conclusions without having even seen the show.

At first I wasn't feeling the new designs and the premise of the show either, but I was pleasantly surprised at how laugh out loud funny the new show is. I'm a huge fan of classic, Golden Age cartoons, and even though it would probably be ideal if we could go back to the way things were...let's face it, it ain't that easy. I'm glad the people behind The Looney Tunes Show are at least making an effort to turn out a decent product. It could have been another phoned in, ridiculous AU like Baby Looney Tunes or Loonatics Unleashed or whatever, but no, they're paying service to the most important aspect of Looney Tunes - the comedy. Are the characters different? Yes, but the characters were always changing in the classic cartoons depending on who was directing.

As for Lola...I have to say, even though I'm a 90s kid like a lot of people in this thread, I can't look at her with nostalgia goggles on anymore. C'mon. Take yourself back to the 90s for a second and look at why she was invented by the suits in charge. Were they trying to make a new, funny, interesting character who was zany and as flawed as the rest of the cast? A cast of characters that have been around for decades? No. She was invented to be the Token Girl with zomg girl power...and no flaws or quirks or personality traits whatsoever. Oh, but don't call her 'doll,' because she is Miss Independent. There is nothing about her that makes her a character in her own right, at least not by Looney Tunes standards. She's there to sell backpacks to little girls, end of story. She's not even much of a motivating factor for Bugs, which you can at least say about other female characters from classic series who also got the short end of the stick. Mickey goes on adventures to woo Minnie, Popeye goes on adventures to woo Olive, and it was that way for both characters since the very beginning of their respective cartoon series.

The new show, while you could argue are perpetuating stereotypes, took Lola and gave her a character the way the boys at Termite Terrace would have done. They gave her flaws, they based her off ridiculous things real people do and exaggerated them, THEY MADE HER FUNNY. For the first time I love this character and I can't get enough of her. She's hilarious to watch. Female characters on television aren't usually allowed to be this funny because people like fans of the original Lola won't let females BE characters - funny, flawed, engaging...and yes, messed up in her own fun way. It was that dynamic that made me LOVE Dot from Animaniacs and Babs Bunny from Tiny Toons growing up.

As for the shipping aspect, welp. I don't go to Looney Tunes when I'm in a romantic mood. I'm not sure why someone would. Mickey and Minnie are my favorite characters and they're who I go to when I want sugary, straight-up, sweet shippable romance. Bugs and Lola should be a comedy team with romance sprinkled in. The more out there the better.

Ha, sorry for the tl;dr. I think a little too hard about my cartoons.

Don't worry, it's a simple medical procedure with next to no danger. It might feel a bit uncomfortable, but it isn't so bad. If you really don't want to deal with it, ask for "twilight" anesthetic. It'll knock you out for the procedure, and then you can go home.

Anything CAN be a trigger to specific people. Is abortion a commonly triggering thing?

[identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Adding to the pile of well-wishes, OP.

[identity profile] imati-lau.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, you're so kind :D

[identity profile] hellissohotrn.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
good luck ♥

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm not sure if I would've bothered to watch if they were guys. And it's a great show, so I'm glad I did watch it.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally for me at least who is all "messed up" (especially emotionally), when having to interact with someone "normal" is really hard work and makes me even more emotionally messed up than when I interact with someone who at least partially understand me.

And for romantic relationships this is even more important, it is easier for me to be in a relationship with someone who isn't completely normal and who understands that sometimes I just want to stay in bed and rewatch random TV shows and not do anything else, than someone who would just tell me to get out of bed and do something productive.

But then again that is just me, and I am not saying that everyone should act and think like I do.

[identity profile] atelierlune.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm no encyclopedia of fandom, but I know of no wank surrounding f/f or yuri pairings and plenty around m/m or yaoi ones. It is very possible that it exists, I just don't know of it.

Perhaps "starting wank" was a bad choice of words. It just seems like there is a lot of back and forth about age, power dynamics, and other issues people find troubling about m/m pairings in anime vs. teh hotness in a fandom like, say Kuroshitsuji (where, yes, the age gap is bigger but Kirika may or may not be the age of consent according to profiles online), and to recast Noir with two men would open it up to the same conflicts. Why aren't those conflicts being leveled at Noir right now? I don't know.

It seems to me that OP wishes that Noir had a bigger fandom (please correct me if I misunderstand, OP) and that Noir being about two males would have brought that, but I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. I think they should make more series like Noir featuring two women instead. Kirika and Mireille ought to be able to stay who they are.

[identity profile] atelierlune.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. If he turns his nose up at you, the sooner you're rid of him, seems like, the better.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the only one, but I certainly see very little similarity myself.

The Granada series (for all its occasional cheesiness) knocks all other versions into a cocked hat, IMO.

The one, the only Sherlock Holmes worth a damn. Second place to Russian Holmes.

[identity profile] lule-bell.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck anon! *hugs tight* You're gonna be fine. ♥

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
This will be difficult and probably affect you emotionally and mentally for your life, but it is nevertheless a brave and probably very good choice.
I bet if my mother hadn't got an abortion at around your age, she would have been miserable-
my sister and I never would have been born and she wouldn't be the self-reliant, content and loving mother she is to both of us today :)

(eh, sorry for my english, these past tenses are difficult)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
One thing I kinda wish we could've gotten was Tidus's reaction to some of those new outfits Yuna's been sporting. I mean, Lady Luck, Thief, Gun Mage, Black Mage, Festival-Goer, that's a lot of eye candy to catch up on...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say so, sure. Either way, being dismissive about it is not the best method of dealing with it.
