It's not a done deal that Sherlock Holmes is asexual in ACD canon. This isn't an attack on you or on asexuality, but it was never explicitly started that Holmes was asexual, so it's not ridiculous that other people would interpret the character differently.

Also, if you honestly think Arthur Conan Doyle had even the slightest notion of "asexuality"... well. It's up to you to interpret the character however you like, just how it's up to others how they choose to see him. Just don't go around pretending that your opinion perfectly matches the author's.

I think you may be projecting a little here. Holmes isn't canon asexual. He shows a lot of signs of it and I'll certainly take that interpretation, but demisexual or just 'not interested in actively pursing sex but wouldn't kick Lestrade/Irene/Watson/Mary Morstan out of bed for eating crackers' is also valid.

and if someone wants to write a story about sherlock holmes getting gang banged by japanese anime characters and loving every second of it, someone fucking will.

As has been stated, Holmes was never confirmed as asexual (hell, that word didn't even exist in regards to human sexuality back then). I am a homo-romantic asexual, and I don't agree at all with your comparisons of writing an asexual character as a sexual character is just as icky as writing a gay character as a straight one. I have no problem at all with the former scenario. But if you really do find it that offensive then just carry on avoiding it as you have been, because it's not gonna change any time soon, and it's not your place to order people what not to write or ship.

If you're an author, surely you know that once produced, a text is open to readers' interpretation. Naturally, it is NOT stated in the original canon that Holmes is asexual (how could it be - no such notion existed anyway). If you read (and BBC version amplifies) this understanding into him, great for you. It doesn't mean your interpretation is more valid than others.

You'll have to stay out of fandom, I'm afraid, as there really is a lot of shipping there.

Your analogy is not good. Asexual people are not allergic to sex and there is no deathly consequence. A better analogy would be taking a character that is known to dislike or specifically never eat seafood, and then writing a story all about how that character eats seafood all the time. It's still annoying, but not really the same.

And you really can't demand that the entire world conform to your interpretation of characters and stay away from any other imaginings. I get that you don't like it and find it offensive, but that doesn't mean others are wrong and disgusting and horrible for doing it.

You do realize that someone can "squeal over cheekbones" while also appreciating all of the other aspects of a story, right? I'm not even attracted to the character, but it's... not so great to imply that attraction to a character necessarily equals a shallow level of appreciation for a story.
This is targeted at that one part of your secret, not your asexuality, just to be clear.

Look, my personal head-canon is that Sherlock is asexual too. That said, I enjoy fic where he and John bone (and both enjoy it). People are complicated, alright? Someone else's enjoyment of Sherlock & John having sex shouldn't ruin your own interpretation.

And hey, there are PLENTY of ships I loathe, but that doesn't mean people can't ship them or that I would stop them even if I could. If you don't want to get into fandom because of this...maybe you shouldn't. I've walked away from fandoms before, and I don't regret it.

On the one hand, I'm reluctant to give up one of the very, very few characters in literature who can be read as sharing my orientation.

On the other hand, fans gonna fan, and more power to them.

On the third hand, even if Holmes was asexual, it's my headcanon that he would have sought out all the most common sexual experiences in the spirit of data gathering, and catalogued the results accordingly, even if he personally got nothing from them.

Hi, asexual person reporting in here.

I don't think it's offensive to ship canon asexual characters. I do it, I have asexual friends who do it. In fact, I know a lot of asexual people, and you are honestly the first asexual person I've heard to have a problem with it.

It does bother me when canon takes away asexual representation by writing the character as sexually attracted. (cough cough the Doctor.)

In fanworks? Pfft. Have at it. Don't like, don't read, etc etc.

I don't personally have a problem with people writing gay characters in het relationships either. I think we had this discussion a while ago here where someone shipped Dumbledore/McGonagall and felt guilty for it, but people were mostly like, "Dude, as long as you're not saying there's anything wrong with him being gay, or that he isn't gay in canon, it's fine." It's just a fic, it doesn't affect his canon orientation.

btw I'm not in any version of Sherlock fandom, but from what I've seen from afar I do agree that he's likely asexual. The comments trying to take that away from his canon self bug me way more than any amount of "I write him screwing John because I personally find that to be hot" fics ever could.

You're not only projecting your sexuality onto these characters you're projecting it into a time period where the very idea of your sexuality didn't exist.

Get over yourself. Holmes canon is not a canon featuring any characters of asexual identity because it did not exist as a concept.
